1. Open the cover using a flathead screw-driver wrapped with plastic tape.

Do not bend the terminals.
4. Remove the discharged battery and put in a new battery with positive (+) side
up.

NOTICE
Make sure the positive side and
negative side of the battery are
faced correctly.
 Do not replace the battery with wet
hands. Water may cause unexpected
rust.
 Do not touch or move any compo-
nents inside the transmitter, or it
may interfere with proper operation.
 Be careful not to bend the electrode
when inserting the battery and that
dust or oils do not adhere to the
frame.
5. Install the battery cover of the module.
6. Install the module into the key frame
and secure the cover.
After replacing the battery, check that the
key operates properly. If the key still does
not operate properly, contact your Scion
dealer.
Side doors

LOCKING AND UNLOCKING WITH KEY
Insert the key into the keyhole and turn
it.
To lock: Turn the key forward.
To unlock: Turn the key backward.
The side doors and back door lock and
unlock simultaneously with driver ’s door or
either front door on some models. In the
driver’s door lock, turning the key once
will unlock the driver’s door and twice in
succession will unlock the side doors and
back door simultaneously. When the side doors and back door are
unlocked simultaneously using either the
key or the wireless remote control func-
tion, the interior lights and ignition switch
light will come on and remain on for about
15 seconds before fading out. (For further
information, see “Interior lights” on page
94 and “Ignition switch light” on page 95.)

INSIDE LOCK KNOB
Move the lock knob.
To lock: Push the knob forward.
To unlock: Pull the knob backward.
The side doors can be opened by pulling
the inside handle even if the lock knobs
are in the locked position.
CAUTION
Do not pull the inside handle of the
side doors while driving. The doors
will open and an accident may occur.
Scion strongly recommends that all
children be placed in the rear seat of
the vehicle.
Closing the door with the lock knob in the
lock position will also lock the door. Be
careful not to lock your keys in the ve-
hicle.
The side doors cannot be locked if you
leave the key in the ignition switch.

POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCH
Push the switch.
To lock: Push the switch down on the
front side.
To unlock: Push the switch down on the
rear side.
Operating the switch locks or unlocks the
side doors and back door simultaneously.
If you do any of the following, no door
can be unlocked with the power door lock
switch.
Lock the side doors and back door
with the key or wireless remote control
function when the side doors and back
door are closed.
Open the driver’s door and move the
inside lock knob of the side to the lock
position, then close the door.
The power door lock switch can be reset
in the following ways.
Turn the ignition key to “ON” position.
Unlock the side doors and back door
with the key or wireless remote control
function.
Unlock the driver’s door with the inside
lock knob, and then unlock the side
doors and back door with the power
door lock switch.
Power windows (Type A)

The windows can be operated with the
switch on each door. The passenger ’s
window can also be controlled by the
switch on the driver ’s door.
The power windows work when the ignition
switch is in the “ON” position.
OPERATING THE SWITCHES
To lower the window, push the switch
halfway down. Pull it up to raise the
window. The window glass moves as
long as the switch is operated.

Automatic operation: Push the switch
completely down or pull it completely up,
and then release it. The window will fully
open or close. To stop the window part-
way, lightly move the switch in the oppo-
site direction and then release it.
Window lock switch: If you push in the
window lock switch on the driver ’s door,
the passenger ’s window cannot be oper-
ated.
The indicator lights on the switch tell you
which of the switches can be operated.
Jam protection function: During automat-
ic closing operation, the window stops and
opens halfway if something gets caught
between the window and body. If the window receives a strong impact,
this function may work even if nothing is
caught.
CAUTION
To avoid death or serious personal
injury, you must do the following.
Before you close the power win-
dows, always make sure there is
nobody around the power windows.
You must also make sure the
heads, hands and other parts of the
bodies of all occupants are kept
completely inside the vehicle. If
someone’s neck, head or hands get
caught in a closing window, it
could result in death or serious in-
jury. When anyone closes the power
windows, make sure he or she op-
erates the windows safely.
When small children are in the ve-
hicle, never let them use the power
window switches without supervi-
sion. Use the window lock switch to
prevent them from making unex-
pected use of the switches.
Be sure to remove the ignition key
when you leave your vehicle.
Never leave anyone (particularly a
small child) alone in your vehicle,
especially with the ignition key still
inserted. Otherwise, he/she could
use the power window switches and
get trapped in a window. Unat-
tended person (particularly a small
child) can be involved in a serious
accident.
Never try jamming any part of your
body to activate the jam protection
function intentionally, as it could re-
sult in a death or serious injury.
The jam protection function may
not work if something gets caught
just before the window is fully
closed.
If the battery is disconnected or run
down
The power window may not operate auto-
matically and the jam protection function
will not function correctly after you recon-
nect, replace or recharge the battery. At
this time, the indicator lights of the
switches will flash. In any of these cases,
you should normalize the power window
on each door.

OPERATING THE PASSENGER’S WIN-
DOW
Use the switch on the passenger ’s side.

Back door

To open the back door, push the back
door opener and raise the door.
The back door can be opened when the
vehicle is stopped.
The back door is locked and unlocked
simultaneously with side doors (see
“—Locking and unlocking doors and back
door” on page 13 and “Side doors” on
page 16).When the side doors and back door are
unlocked simultaneously with a key, the
interior lights and ignition switch light will
come on and remain on for about 15 sec-
onds before fading out. (For details, see
“Interior lights” on page 94 and “Ignition
switch light” on page 95.)
If the back door opener does not operate,
see “If you cannot operate back door
opener” on page 210.
If the battery is disconnected or run
down,
the back door will be automatically
locked and the back door system may not
work after you reconnect, replace or re-
charge the battery. In any of these cases,
normalize the back door system by follow-
ing procedure.
1. Unlock the back door with the remote control key or power door lock switch.
2. Close the back door completely by hand.
If the back door system does not operate
properly after the above procedure, there
may be a problem in the system. Contact
your Scion dealer.

When closing the back door, the inside
handle can be used to make the reach
easier.
To close the back door, lower it and press
down on it. After closing the back door,
try pulling it up to make sure it is secure-
ly closed.
See “Cargo and luggage” on page 175 for
precautions to observe when loading lug-
gage.

2. Push the switch briefly on the“OPEN” side again. (Position 2)
The front roof panel will fully tilt up and
the center roof panel will slide and stop
50 mm (2.0 in.) from the fully opened
position.
To stop partway, push the switch on either
the “OPEN” or “CLOSE” side briefly.
The front sunshade will be opened togeth-
er with the roof panels.
To close: Hold down the switch on the
“CLOSE” side. The center roof panel will
slide and stop right before the fully closed
position. When you hold down the switch
once again, the front and center roof pan-
els will lower completely. To stop partway,
release the switch.
The front sunshade will not close together
with the roof panels. Close the sunshade
by hand. 3. Push the switch briefly on the
“OPEN” side one more time. (Posi-
tion 3)
The center roof panel will slide fully.
As driving with the moon roof opened fully
will cause wind throbs, we recommend
you to drive with the moon roof 50 mm
(2.0 in.) from the fully opened position.
To stop partway, push the switch on either
the “OPEN” or “CLOSE” side briefly.
The front sunshade will be opened togeth-
er with the roof panels.
To close: Hold down the switch on the
“CLOSE” side. The center roof panel will
slide and stop right before the fully closed
position. When you hold down the switch
once again, the front and center roof pan-
els will lower completely. To stop partway,
release the switch.
The front sunshade will not close together
with the roof panels. Close the sunshade
by hand. Key off operation:
If both side doors are
closed, the moon roof works for 43 sec-
onds even after the ignition switch is
turned off. It stops working when either
side door is opened.
Jam protection function: If something
gets caught between the moon roof and
frame during closing operation, the moon
roof stops and opens to a full open posi-
tion or the position opened about 200 mm
(7.9 in.).
If the moon roof receives a strong impact,
this function may work even if nothing is
caught.
