Operating with the buttons on the windshield wiper lever
– You can activate the MAIN MENU by pressing the rocker switch
⇒ page 26, fig. 28 for more than 1 second.
– You can select the menu through the rocker switch . When the pushbutton is briefly pressed, the information you have selected is
displayed.
Operating with the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel
– You can activate the MAIN MENU by pressing the rocker switch
⇒ page 26, fig. 29 for more than 1 second.
– You can select the individual menus by pressing the handwheel . After briefly pressing the handwheel , the desired menu is indi-
cated.
– After briefly pressing the button you can achieve a higher level, by
pressing the button for longer than 1 second, you can call up the
MAIN MENU .
You can select the following information (depending on the equipment installed on
the vehicle):

The menu Audio is only displayed when th e Radio* is switched on.
The menu Navigation is only displayed when the Navigation* is switched on.
The menu Aux. Heating is only then displayed, if the vehicle is fitted with auxiliary
heating*.
Note
•If warning messages are shown on the information display ⇒page 27
⇒ page 28, these messages ca n be confirmed with the button on the wind-
shield wiper lever or with the button on the multifunction steering wheel in
order to call up the main menu.
•If you do not activate the information display at that moment, the menu shifts
to one level higher every 10 seconds.

The door, luggage compartment door and bonnet ajar warning lights up when at
least one of the three items door, luggage compartment or bonnet are not closed
when the ignition is turned on. The symbol indicates which door is still open or
whether the luggage compartment door or bonnet is not closed ⇒ page 27, fig. 30 .
The symbol goes out as soon as the doors, luggage compartment door and bonnet
are completely closed.
A warning signal sounds if the car is driven at a speed of more than 6km/hour and
if the engine or the luggage compartment door is open.
Audio
These displays indicate the normal information from the display of the radio*.
Operation of the radio* is described in separate operating instructions to be found
in the on-board literature.
Navigation system*
The controls for the navigation system, radi o, CD player are located in the centre
console on both sides of th e monitor screen. Navigation data is also shown in the
information display of the instrument cluster. Information and warning texts are displayed preferentially when the navigation
system is switched on.
Operation of the navigation system is described in separate operating instructions
to be found in the on-board literature.
Auto Check Control*
Car state
The Auto Check Control carries out a chec
k of certain functions and vehicle compo-
nents. The check is performe d constantly when the ignition is switched on, both
when the vehicle is stationary, as well as when driving.
Some operational faults, urgent repairs, service work or other information appear
in the display of the instrument cluster. The displays are shown with a red or yellow
light symbol depending on the priority of the message.
The red symbols indicate danger (priority 1) while the yellow symbols indicate a
warning (priortity 2). Information for the driver may also appear in addition to the
symbols ⇒page 32.
Shown in the menu Vehicle status, if there is at least one error message. After
selecting this menu the first of the error messages is displayed. Several error
messages are shown on the display under the message e.g. 1/3 ⇒ fig. 32 . This indi-
cates that the first of a total of three error messages is displayed. The respective

Operation of mobile phones or two-way radio systems may interfere with func-
tioning of the electronic systems of your
vehicle. The reasons for this may be:
•no external aerial
•external aerial incorrectly installed
•transmission power greater than 10 watts.
You should also be aware of the fact that only an external aerial makes it possible
to achieve the optimal range of such equipment.
WARNING
•If a mobile phone or two-way radio sy stem is operated inside the vehicle
without using an external aerial, or wi th an external aerial which has been
incorrectly installed, the result can be excessive electromagnetic fields
which may cause harm to your health.
•Please concentrate fully at all times on your driving!
•You must not install two-way radio systems, mobile phones or mounts
on the covers of the airbags or within the immediate deployment range of
airbags. This might result in injuries to the occupants in the event of an acci-
dent.

Please also refer to the operating instru ctions of the mobile phones and two-way
radio systems.
Input AUX-IN*
The input AUX-IN is located below the armrest* of the front seats and is marked
with . The equipment AUX-IN can only be us ed in combination with a radio or
navigation system installed in the factory.
The input AUX-IN connects the external audio sources (e. g. iPod or mp3 player)
and records music from these devices via your radio* or your navigation*. The description of the operation can be
found in the relevant Owner's Manual of
your radio* or your navigation*.
Note
•If an external audio source is conne cted via AUX-IN, which has a separate
power supply, this can lead to an interfer ence of the audio signals. It depends on
the properties of the adapter.
•The loudspeakers in the vehicle are matched to a power output of 30 W.
MDI input*
The MDI input ⇒fig. 166 is located in the storage compartment on the front
passenger side.
The MDI input connects the external audio sources (e. g. iPod or mp3 player) and
records music from these devices via your radio* or your navigation*.
Music data from the connected devices ar e shown on the information display* or
on the display of your radio* or your navigation*.
These devices can be used after connectin g them via the multifunction steering
wheel* or directly to the ra dio* or to the navigation*.
The description of the operation can be found in the relevant Owner's Manual of
your radio* or your navigation*.
