HEATER AND AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM
HEATER, AIR CONDITIONING AND VENTILATION55-5
The following new unit integrated blower, heater and
evaporator to increase the air flow, reduce noise, and
enhanced cooler and heater performance;:
•Integrated heater/cooling unit has been adopted
for large air flows and low noise.
•Crushable space has been secured to reduce the
risk of passenger injuries.
•Air mix damper that is also used as a reheating
prevention damper has been adopted to enhance
the air cooling performance.
•The A/C condensate water outlet (drain port) has
been installed to behind the evaporator to
restrain the clogging of drain by foreign materials.
•The outlet air temperature of the defroster has
been set lower than that of foot to prevent over
-
heating the driver’s face.
•Fin thermo sensor to directly measure evaporator
temperature reduces occurrence risk of an evap
-
orator freeze which will lead to the compressor
lock.
•Clean air filter has been introduced as standard
to protect the unit from the intrusion of foreign
materials (fallen leaves and others). and, it
removes the pollen and dust, and enhances the
air quality inside the passenger compartment.
•Clean air filter media and cover have been sepa-
rated to reduce the waste material amount gener-
ated during the filter replacement.
•The installation position of clean air filter has
been set to the backside of glove box to facilitate
the filter replacement operation. And, the
one-touch tab structure has been adopted for the
cover installation to enable the replacement oper
-
ation without tools.

CRUSHABLE SPACE
The evaporator and heater core has been longitudi-
nally installed in the vehicle length, and the crush-
able space has been adopted so that the structure
absorbs the impact in case of a collision and reduces
the risk of passenger injuries.

PISTONS
The pistons are made of a special aluminum alloy.
Their weight has been reduced by lowering their
overall height and increasing the depression at each
end of the piston pin.
The piston pin hole center is offset 0.8 mm (0.031 in)
towards the thrust side of the piston center.
The skirt portion along the perimeter of the piston is
finished with streaks that excel in oil retention and
seizure resistance.
PISTON PINS
The piston pins are the semi-floating type. Each pin
is press-fit and secured in the small end of the con
-
necting rod, while it floats in the piston.

ENGINE OIL CONTROL VALVE
The engine oil control valve consists of a solenoid
valve, which switches the hydraulic pressure that
acts on the vane rotor in the V.V.T. sprocket assem

GENERAL INFORMATION
FRONT AXLE26-2
GENERAL INFORMATIONM2260000100819
For the front axle, a double-row angular contact ball
bearing with an integral oil seal is adopted as a
wheel bearing, and EBJ-ETJ type constant velocity
joint as a driveshaft.
It has the following features:
•The driveshaft incorporates lightweight and com-
pact EBJ-ETJ type constant velocity joints.
•Lead-free grease for the constant velocity joint is
adopted.
•Hexavalent chromium is eliminated from the dust
cover material.
•The number of parts is reduced by integrating the
magnetic encoder for ABS wheel speed detection
into the wheel bearing.
NOTE: .
ETJ (High Efficiency Compact Tripod Joint): the
lighter and smaller constant velocity joint com
-
pared with the conventional TJ has been
installed.
EBJ (High Efficiency Compact Birfield Joint): the
lighter and smaller constant velocity joint com
-
pared with the conventional BJ has been
achieved by adopting the eight small balls.
