96 Activating the multi-function display

The multi-function display is also activated
when you:
R switch on the lights

R open a door Adjusting the instrument cluster
lighting
The instrument cluster lighting automatically
adjusts to the ambient light conditions.
X Brighter or dimmer: turn reset button
1 clockwise or anti-clockwise. Coolant temperature gauge
The coolant temperature gauge is in the
instrument cluster on the left-hand side.
Under normal operating conditions and with
the specified concentration of antifreeze/
corrosion inhibitor, the coolant temperature
may rise to 120 †. The coolant temperature
may rise to the top end of the scale at high
outside temperatures and on long uphill
stretches. Resetting the trip meter

X Press and hold reset button 1until the trip

On vehicles with Audio 20 CD, you can set the
time using the on-board computer
(Y page 106).
i Vehicles with a navigation system*
(COMAND APS*): your navigation sys-
tem* receives the time from a GPS satel-
lite. You must set the time zone once in

menus. The terms themselves are not always
displayed in the multi-function display.
For the Audio 20 CD, the on-board computer
displays the
AudioandTelephone* menus
in English. The language for these menus is
not dependent on the language selected for
the multi-function display.
The display messages in the AudioandTele-
phone* menus are slightly different in vehi- cles with Audio 20 CD and COMAND APS*.
The examples given in this Owner's Manual
apply to vehicles equipped with COMAND

If you have activated variable Speedtronic
(Y page 115), time 2is displayed in the
upper multi-function display. The set speed is
then displayed instead of the time in the lower
multi-function display ( Ypage 98). Audio/DVD* menu
Use the functions in the Audio/DVDmenu to
operate the audio equipment or COMAND
APS*. If the audio system or COMAND APS*
is switched off, the multi-function display
shows the message AUDIO OFF(COMAND
APS*: Audio off).
