Locking and unlocking
Global locking
Press the lock button on an outside
door handle.
With the trunk and both doors closed:
All turn signal lamps flash three
times.
An acoustic signal sounds three
times.
The locking knobs in the doors
move down.
The anti-theft alarm system is

Restoring to factory setting

flashes twice.Unlocking and opening the trunk
You can unlock and open the trunk sepa-
rately.
A minimum height clearance of 5.71 ft
(1.74 m) CLK coupe or 5.41 ft (1.65 m)
CLK cabriolet is required to open the
trunk lid.
Press and hold button Š until trunk
unlocks and begins to open.
The trunk can also be opened from its in-
side in an emergency, see “Trunk emer-
gency release” (
page 117).Checking the batteries in the SmartKey
or SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO*
Press button‹orŒ.
Battery check lamp (
page 100) or
(
page 104) comes on briefly to indi-
cate that the SmartKey or SmartKey
with KEYLESS-GO batteries are in
order.
iVehicles with trunk opening/closing sys-
tem*, you can also lock the vehicle using the
KEYLESS-GO locking/closing switch
(
page 116) on the trunk lid.
!The trunk lid swings open upwards automat-
ically. Always make sure there is sufficient over-
head clearance.
Vehicles with trunk opening/closing system*: To
stop the opening procedure, press button Š.
The trunk lid stops moving.
iIf the trunk does not open, it is still locked
separately (
page 118).
!If battery check lamp does not come on
briefly during check, the SmartKey or SmartKey
with KEYLESS-GO batteries are discharged.
Replace the batteries (
page 441).
You can obtain the required batteries at any au-
thorized Mercedes-Benz Center.
iIf the batteries are checked within signal
range of the vehicle, pressing the‹orŒ
button will lock or unlock the vehicle
accordingly.

keep hands and fingers away from the trunk
lid opening when closing the trunk. Be espe-
cially careful when small children are
around.
When leaving the vehicle, always remove the
SmartKey or SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO*
from the starter switch, take it with you, and
lock the vehicle. Do not leave children unat-
tended in the vehicle, or with access to an
unlocked vehicle. It is possible for children
to open a locked door from the inside, which
could result in an accident and/or serious
personal injury.
Warning!G
Only drive with the trunk closed as, among
other dangers such as blocked visibility,
exhaust fumes may enter the vehicle
interior.
iDo not place the SmartKey in the open
trunk. You may lock yourself out.
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO*:
To prevent a possible inadvertent lockout, the
trunk lid will open automatically if a SmartKey
with KEYLESS-GO* is recognized inside the vehi-
cle or in the trunk.
iIf the vehicle was previously centrally
locked, the trunk will lock automatically after
closing it (
page 112). All turn signal lamps
flash three times, and an acoustic signal sounds
three times, to confirm locking.

Closing the trunk from the outside
(vehicles without KEYLESS-GO*)
In vehicle with trunk opening/closing sys-
tem* you can close the trunk separately.

Press trunk closing switch1 briefly.
The trunk closes.
If the trunk lid comes into contact with an
object while closing (e.g. luggage that has
been piled too high), the closing procedure
is stopped and the trunk reopens slightly.
iYou can also close the trunk by hand
(
page 113).

Monitor the closing procedure carefully to
ensure that no one is in danger of being in-
jured. To prevent possible personal injury,
always keep hands and fingers away from
the trunk opening when closing the trunk.
Be especially careful when small children
are around. To stop the closing procedure,
do one of the following:

press the Š button on the SmartKey
press the remote trunk opening or clos-
ing switch (on driver’s door)
Even with the SmartKey removed from the
starter switch, the trunk closing switch can
be operated. Therefore, do not leave chil-
dren unattended in the vehicle, or with ac-
cess to an unlocked vehicle.Unsupervised
use of vehicle equipment may cause an ac-

Closing the trunk and locking the vehi-
cle from the outside (vehicles with
KEYLESS-GO*)
In vehicles with trunk opening/closing sys-
tem* and KEYLESS-GO, you can close the
trunk lid and lock the vehicle
simultaneously.
1KEYLESS-GO locking/closing switch
Make sure you have the SmartKey with
KEYLESS-GO with you.
Press switch1 briefly.
With all doors closed, the locking
knobs in the doors move down and the
trunk starts to close automatically. All turn signal lamps flash three times to
confirm locking once the trunk has
closed completely. The anti-theft alarm
system is armed.

Exterior lamp switch
iIf you drive in countries where vehicles drive
on the other side of the road than the country
where the vehicle is registered, you must have
the headlamps modified for symmetrical low
beams. Relevant information can be obtained at
any authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.
iVehicles equipped with active Bi-Xenon*
headlamps:
The active Bi-Xenon headlamps monitor your
steering angle and driving speed, then
automatically shift their beams to either side to
better follow the curvature of the road ahead,
increasing usable illumination over conventional
headlamps.

remove the SmartKey from the starter switch or

!Failure to switch off the exterior lamps when
leaving the vehicle may result in a discharged

Switching on corner-illuminating front
fog lamps
Switch on the left or right turn signal

you are turning left or right.
The respective front fog lamp comes on
and illuminates the area in the
direction into which you are turning.

The front fog lamp on the side of your
steering direction comes on.Switching off corner-illuminating front
fog lamps
The combination switch for the turn signal
resets automatically after major steering
wheel movements. This will switch off the
corner-illuminating front fog lamps if they
where activated by switching on the left or
right turn signal.
If the turn signal should stay on after
making the turn, the turn signal and the
corner-illuminating front fog lamp can be
switched off by returning the combination
switch to its original position.
iIf you have switched on the turn signal for
one side but turn the steering wheel in the
opposite direction, the corner-illuminating front
fog lamp comes on for the side indicated by the
turn signal.
The corner-illuminating front fog lamp remains lit
for a maximum of three minutes. Afterward, it
goes out even if the turn signal is still switched
on.
iThe corner-illuminating front fog lamps tem-
porarily come on, on both sides of the vehicle if
you turn the steering wheel in one direction and
then again in the other direction shortly
thereafter.
iThe corner-illuminating front fog lamps will
come on automatically depending on the
steering angle, even if you did not switch on
either turn signal.
If the corner-illuminating front fog lamps came
on automatically, they will also go out
automatically depending on the steering angle.iThere may be a brief delay before the
corner-illuminating front fog lamps switch off.

The hazard warning flasher switch is
located on the center console.
