!WARNING:
ABS will not prevent accidents due to improper or dangerous driving maneuvers. Even though vehicle control is improved during emer-gency braking, always maintain a safe distance between you and ob- jects ahead. Vehicle speeds shouldalways be reduced during extreme road conditions. The braking distance for carsequipped with an anti-lock braking system may be longer than for those without it in the following road con- ditions.
o Driving on rough, gravel or snow- covered roads.
o Driving with tyre chains installed.
o Driving on roads where the road surface is pitted or has differentsurface height.
These roads should be driven atreduced speeds. The safety featuresof an ABS equipped vehicle should not be tested by high speed driving or cornering. This could endangerthe safety of yourself or others.
SC140B2-E ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (Not all models) The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is designed to prevent wheel lock-up during sudden braking or on hazard-ous road surfaces. The ABS control module monitors the wheel speed and controls the pressure applied to eachbrake. Thus, in emergency situations or on slick roads, ABS will increase vehicle control during braking. NOTE:
o A click sound may be heard in the
engine compartment when the ve- hicle begins to move after the en- gine is started. These conditions are normal and indicate that theanti-lock brake system (Electronic Stability Program) is functioning properly.
o During ABS operation, a slight pulsation may be felt in the brakepedal when the brakes are ap-plied. Also, a noise may be heard in the engine compartment whilst braking. These conditions arenormal and indicate that the anti- lock brake system is functioning properly.
C310A01JM-EAT ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM (ESP)(Not all models) The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) system is designed to stabilize the vehicle during cornering manuevers.ESP checks where you are steering and where the vehicle is actually going. ESP applies the brakes at individualwheels and intervenes in the engine management system to stabilize the vehicle. The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) system is an electronic system de-signed to help the driver maintain ve- hicle control under adverse conditions. C310A01TB-D

SC170E1-E Windscreen Washers and Wip- ers The windscreen washer bottle should be filled with a solution of water and a proprietary winter screen wash addi-tive. The windscreen wipers should not be used if the blades are frozen to the windscreen or if they are coveredwith snow, before this is removed. NOTE: Never allow undiluted screen washer fluid additive to spill upon the paintwork or use engine cool- ant anti-freeze since damage to thepaintwork may result.
o When driving in extreme conditions,
the windscreen wiper blades may fail to clear the screen properly due to the formation of ice upon theblade edge. It will therefore be nec- essary to periodically remove such ice to restore their efficiency.
o If the power operated door mirrors become frozen, attempts to adjustthese may damage the mechanism.
ZC170D1-E Door Locks Should the door lock mechanism be- come frozen, a proprietary lock de-icer should be used. Alternatively, warm- ing the door key may thaw the doorlock. However, the key should be handled carefully to avoid burning the fingers.Never attempt to thaw a frozen door lock using hot water, since the water will eventually freeze and compoundthe problem. NOTE: The proper temperature for using the immobilizer key is from -40°F to 176°F (-40°C to 80°C). If you heat the immobilizer key over 176°F (80°C)to open the frozen lock, it may cause damage to the transponder in its head.
o The formation of snow or ice built up
inside the wheel arches may inter-fere with the road wheels or steeringmechanism. In such instances, un- usual noises or an increase in steer- ing effort may result. Therefore,ensure that the wheel arches are checked periodically and any accu- mulated snow or ice removed.
o It is advisable to carry emergency equipment including, torch, shovel,tow rope, blankets etc., if a journeyis to be undertaken into areas of severe road conditions.

When being passed by a large ve- hicle, keep a constant speed and steer straight ahead. If there is toomuch wind buffeting slow down to get out of the other vehicle's air turbulence.
8. When parking your car and trailer, especially on a hill, be sure to followall the normal precautions. Turn yourfront wheel into the curb, set the parking brake firmly, and put the transaxle in 1st or Reverse (manual)or Park (automatic). In addition, we advise the use of wheel chocks at each of the trailer's tyres.
9. If the trailer has electric brakes, start your vehicle and trailer mov-ing, and then apply the trailer brakecontroller by hand to be sure the brakes are working. This lets you check your electrical connection atthe same time.
10. During your trip, check occasion-
ally to be sure that the load issecure, and that the lights and any trailer brakes are still working.
11. Avoid jerky starts, sudden accel- eration or sudden stops.
12. Avoid sharp turns and rapid lane
changes. 13. Avoid holding the brake pedal down
too long or too frequently. This could cause the brakes to over-heat, resulting in reduced braking efficiency.
14. When going down a hill, shift into a lower gear and use the enginebraking effect.When climbing a long grade, down-
shift the transaxle to a lower gearand reduce speed to reduce chances of engine overloading and/or overheating.
15. If you have to stop while going
uphill, do not hold the vehicle inplace by pressing on the accelera- tor. This can cause the automatic transaxle to overheat. Use the park-ing brake or footbrake.
NOTE: When towing check transaxle fluid more frequently. CAUTION:
If overheating should occur when towing, (temperature gauge reads near red zone), taking the followingaction may reduce or eliminate the problem.
1. Turn off the air conditioner.
2. Reduce highway speed.
3. Select a lower gear when going uphill.
4. While in stop and go traffic, place
the gear selection in park or neu- tral and idle the engine at a higher speed.

3- 4 WHAT TO DO IN AN EMERGENCY
D030A02TB-EAT IF THE ENGINE OVERHEATS If the temperature gauge indicates overheating:
1. Pull off the road and stop as soon as
it is safe to do so.
2. Place the gear selector lever in "P" (automatic), or neutral (manual transaxle) and set the parking brake.If the air conditioning is on, turn it off.
3. If coolant is running out under the car
or steam is coming out from underthe bonnet stop the engine. Do not open the bonnet until the coolant has stopped running or the steaming hasstopped. If there is no visible loss of coolant and no steam, leave the engine running and check to be surethe engine cooling fan is operating. If the fan is not running, turn the engine off.
4. Check to see if the water pump drive belt is missing. If it is not missing,check to see that it is tight. If thedrive belt seems to be satisfactory, check for coolant leaking from the radiator, hoses or under the car. (Ifthe air conditioning had been in use, it is normal for cold water to be draining from it).
1. Ensure that the booster battery is 12
volt type. If the booster battery isinstalled in another vehicle, ensurethat the two vehicles are not touch- ing.
2. Turn off all unnecessary electrical equipment in both vehicles.
3. Ensure that the engine of the ve-
hicle providing the jump start is run- ning prior to connection of the jump cables.
4. Connect the red jump cable to the positive (+) terminal of the boosterbattery and the other end to the positive (+) terminal of the dis-charged battery.
5. Attach the black jump cable to the
negative (-) terminal of the boosterbattery, and the other end to a ground point within the engine compartment of the vehicle with the flat battery. Donot connect to the negative battery terminal of the flat battery since sparks may be generated with thesubsequent risk of explosion. CAUTION:
If the jump cable is incorrectly in-stalled, damage to the vehicle elec-trical system may occur, in particu- lar the electronic components such as the Fuel Injection system com-puter and the Automatic transaxle computer. The battery must never be disconnected whilst the engine isrunning.

6. Raise the booster vehicle engine
speed to 2,000 r.p.m. and start the engine of the vehicle with the flatbattery.
7. Switch ON the main beam headlamps
before carefully removing the jumpercables in the reverse order of attach- ment. Once the jumper cables have been removed, switch "OFF" themain beam headlamps.

G290A01FC-EAT HEADLIGHT AIMING ADJUST- MENT Before performing aiming adjustment, make sure of the following.
1. Keep all tyres inflated to the correct
pressure.
2. Place the vehicle on level ground and press the front bumper and rear bumper down several times. Place the vehicle at a distance of 118 in.(3,000 mm) from the test wall.
3. See that the vehicle is unloaded
(except for full levels of coolant,engine oil and fuel, and spare tyre, jack, and tools).
4. Clean the head lights lens and turn on the headlight (low beam).
WARNING:
Be sure to carefully wipe away any water drained out in this manner, because the fuel mixed in the water might be ignited and result in a fire. Extracting air in the fuel filter If you drove until you have no fuel left or if you replaced the fuel filter, be sure to extract air in the fuel system as it makes you difficult to start the engine.
1) Remove the air extract nozzle cap on the fuel filter.
2) Pump up and down until the fuel flows out of the plug opening.
NOTE: Use cloths when you extract air so that the fuel is not sprayed around.Clean the fuel around the fuel filter or the injection pump before starting the engine to prevent fire. Finally,check each part if the fuel is leaking.

G300A02TB-EAT REMOVAL OF WATER FROM THE FUEL FILTER(DIESEL ENGINE) If the fuel filter warning lamp illuminates during driving, it indicates that waterhas accumulated in the fuel filter. If this occurs, remove the water as described. NOTE: It is recommended that water accu- mulated in the fuel filter should be removed by an authorised Hyundai dealer.

If the vehicle has had front body re-pairer and the headlight assembly has been replaced, the headlight aiming should be checked using the aimingscreen as shown in the illustration. Turn on the headlight switch. (Low Beam Position)
1. Adjust headlights so that main axis
of light is parallel to center line of the body and is aligned with point "P" shown in the illustration.

Replacement instructions:
1. Allow the bulb to cool. Wear eye
protection.
2. Always grasp the bulb by its plastic base, avoid touching the glass.
3. Disconnect the power cord from the bulb base in the back of the head-light.
4. Remove the dust cover. 5. Push the bulb spring for removing
the headlight bulb.
G270A01TB-EAT REPLACING LIGHT BULBS Headlight Bulb In the event of bulb failure being expe- rienced, ensure that the relative lighting circuit is turned off prior to attempting toreplace the bulb. The illustrations on the following page will assist in locating and removing the various bulbs. En-sure that the replacement bulb has the same cap configuration and wattage as the original.

6. Remove the protective cap from the
replacement bulb and install the new bulb by matching the plastic basewith the headlight hole. Install the dust cover after retightening the bulb spring and reconnect the power cord.
7. Use the protective cap and carton to dispose of the old bulb.
8. Check for proper headlight aim.
WARNING
The halogen bulb contains gas un-der pressure and if impacted couldshatter, resulting in flying fragments. Always wear eye protection when servicing the bulb. Protect the bulbagainst abrasions or scratches and against liquids when lighted. Turn on the bulb only when installed in aheadlight. Replace the headlight if damaged or cracked. Keep the bulb out of the reach of children and dis-pose of the used bulb with care.
