Unlocking the vehicle

Tailgate unlockC
Press the unlock button once tounlock the vehicle. SeeProgramming the remotecontrol (page 35).
Press and hold the unlock button forthree seconds to unlock the vehicleand open the windows and sunroof(global opening)*.
Press the lock button once toactivate central locking and arm thealarm.
Press the lock button twice withinthree seconds to activate doublelocking and arm the interior sensors.
Press and hold the lock button forthree seconds to lock the vehicle andclose the windows and sunroof(global closing)*.
Press the tailgate unlock button twicewithin three seconds to unlock theluggage compartment.
* only in combination with four electricwindows (in combination with twoelectric windows, only the sunroofcan be opened and closed in thisway).
Opening the tailgate
To open the luggage compartment,press the switch. The driver’s doormust be unlocked.

Curtain air bags
Moulded badges in the A- andB-piller trims indicate that curtain airbags are fitted. The curtain airbagsare fitted over the front and rear sidewindows inside the roof lining. In caseof a severe lateral collision, the air bagon the side affected by the collisionwill be inflated.
The curtain air bags are not activatedupon minor lateral collisions nor uponfront or rear impacts.
Seat belts
WARNINGS
Use seat belts at all times.
Never use a seat belt for morethan one person.
Avoid wearing thick clothing.
WARNINGS
The seat belts should fit tightlyaround the body.
Seat belt pretensioner
WARNING
The belt pretensioners must notbe removed. If thepretensioners are deployed duringan accident, they must be replaced.Have the pretensioners serviced anddisposed of by specially trainedpersonnel only.
The restraint system, with beltpretensioners in the front seats, helpsto reduce the risk of serious injury ina major frontal impact. During aserious crash the seat belts arepretensioned to help reduce slack inthe belt. The safety belt pretensioneris a device which removes excesswebbing from the safety belt system.When the safety belt pretensionerdeploys, webbing from the lap andshoulder belt is tightened.

You can also operate the electricwindows with the ignition off via theglobal opening and global closingfunction.
Note:Global closing will only operateif you have set the memory correctlyfor each window. See Electricwindows (page 84).
Global opening
To open all the windows, press andhold the unlock button for at leastthree seconds. Press either the lockor the unlock button again to stopthe opening function.

Vehicles without the key freesystem
WARNING
Take care when using globalclosing. In an emergency, pressa button immediately to stop.
To close all the windows, press andhold the lock button for at leastthree seconds. Press any buttonagain to stop the closing function.The anti-trap function is also activeduring global closing.
