Take care when using globalclosing. In an emergency, pressthe button on the driver’s doorhandle to stop.
Note:Global closing can beactivated using the button on thedriver’s door handle. Global openingand closing can also be activatedusing the buttons on the passive key.
To close all the windows, press andhold the button on the driver’s doorhandle for at least two seconds. Theanti-trap function is also active duringglobal closing.

The system is armed as soon as thevehicle is locked and acts as adeterrent to unauthorised personswho attempt to open the doors,bonnet or luggage compartment, orremove the audio system.
The alarm sounds for 30 seconds ifan unauthorised person opens adoor, the luggage compartment orthe bonnet. The hazard flasher lightswill flash for five minutes.
Any attempt to start the enginewithout a valid key or to remove theaudio system sounds the alarmagain.
Automatic arming delay
The 20 seconds arming delay beginswhen the bonnet, luggagecompartment and all doors areclosed.
Interior sensors
WARNING
This system functions correctlyonly if all windows and thesunroof are completely closed. Inaddition to this, the sensors locatedin the interior lamp unit must not becovered up. The system should notbe activated if any persons, animalsor other moving objects are insidethe vehicle.
Note:The interior sensors will notoperate if the convertible top is open.
This system acts as a deterrentagainst unauthorised intrusion bysensing any movement within thevehicle.
Unauthorised entry into the vehicle’sinterior will trigger the alarm in thesame way as the anti-theft system.
The sensors are located in the interiorlamp unit.
Convertible only
The interior sensors are automaticallydisabled if the convertible top is open.
All except Britain and Ireland
The interior sensing alarm is armedtogether with the double lockingsystem.
Britain and Ireland only
The interior sensing alarm is armedtogether with the central lockingsystem.

Some models without autowipers arefitted with a speed-dependent frontscreen wiper system.
When the vehicle is slowed to walkingspeed or is brought to a standstill, thewiper speed will automatically switchto the next lower wiper speedsetting.
When the vehicle speed is increased,the wiper speed will return to themanually-chosen setting.
Moving the wiper lever when thesystem is operating will switch off thesystem.
If the vehicle is again slowed towalking speed or is brought to astandstill, the system is reactivated.

Do not operate the washer formore than 10 seconds at a time,and never when the reservoir isempty.
While the button at the end of thelever is pressed the washer will workin conjunction with the wipers.
After releasing the button, the wipersoperate for a short time.

Intermittent wipe
Pull the lever towards the steeringwheel.
Reverse gear wipe
The rear wiper will be activatedautomatically when selecting reversegear if:
•the rear wiper is not alreadyswitched on,
•the wiper lever is in position A, B,C or D and
•the front wiper is operating (whenset to position B).
The rear wiper will follow the frontwiper interval (at intermittent ornormal speed).

Note:On some models, to preventthe washer fluid reservoir frombecoming empty too quickly, theheadlamp washer will not beactivated with every press of thebutton. For a period of ten minutesafter activation, the washer will onlybe activated again with every fourthpress of the button.
The headlamp washers operatewhen the exterior lights are switchedon and the windscreen washer isused. The system is supplied fromthe washer fluid reservoir.
CHECKING THE WIPER
BLADES
Run the tip of your fingers over theedge of the blade to check forroughness.
Clean the wiper blade lips with waterapplied with a soft sponge.
CHANGING THE WIPER
BLADES
Windscreen wiper blades
Lift the wiper arm. Position the wiperblade at a right angle to the wiperarm. Remove the blade from the armand replace it.
Rear window wiper blades
Lift the wiper arm and position thewiper blade at a right angle to thewiper arm. To remove, press theretaining clip, disengage the wiperblade and pull it off the arm in theopposite direction.

WARNING

Switch on the ignition to operate theelectric windows.
Global opening and closing
You can also operate the electricwindows with the ignition off via theglobal opening and closing function.See Locks (page 40).
Driver's door switches
You can operate all the windows withthe switches on the door trim panelof the driver’s door.
Opening and closing thewindows automatically
Press or lift the switch to the secondaction point and release itcompletely. Press or lift it again tostop the windows.
Safety switch for rearwindows
Note:You can always operate therear windows from the driver’s door.
A switch in the driver’s door disablesthe rear electric window switches.
The light in the switch comes on andthe lights in the rear window switchesgo off when the rear windows aredisabled.
Anti-trap function
WARNING
Careless closing of the windowscan override the protectionfunction and cause injuries.

Overriding the anti-trapfunction
CAUTION
While you close the window forthe third time, the anti-trapfunction is disabled. Make sure thereare no obstacles in the way of theclosing window.
To override this protection functionwhen there is a resistance, e.g. in thewinter, proceed as follows:
1.Close the window twice until itreaches the resistance and let itreverse.
2.Close the window a third time tothe resistance. The anti-trapfunction is disabled and youcannot close the windowautomatically. The window willoverride the resistance and youcan close it fully.
3.If the window does not close afterthe third attempt, have it checkedby an expert.
Resetting the memory of
the electric windows
WARNING
The anti-trap function isdeactivated until you have resetthe memory.
After the battery has beendisconnected from the vehicle youmust reset the memory separatelyfor each window:
1.Lift and hold the switch until thewindow is fully closed.
2.Release the switch.
3.Lift the switch again for one moresecond.
4.Push and hold the switch until thewindow is fully open.
5.Release the switch.
6.Lift and hold the switch until thewindow is fully closed.
7.Open the window and try to closeit automatically.
8.Reset and repeat procedure if thewindow does not closeautomatically.

Do not overestimate thedistance of the objects that yousee in the convex mirror. Objectsseen in convex mirrors will appearsmaller and further away than theyactually are.
