Passive locking and unlockingrequires a valid passive key to belocated within one of the threeexternal detection ranges.
Unlocking the vehicle
Pull a door handle to unlock all thedoors and the luggage compartmentlid and disarm the alarm.
Locking the vehicle
Locking buttons are located on eachof the front doors and the luggagecompartment lid.

ON RADIO FREQUENCIES
CAUTION
The radio frequency used byyour remote control can also beused by other short distance radiotransmissions (e.g. amateur radios,medical equipment, wirelessheadphones, remote controls andalarm systems). If the frequencies arejammed, you will not be able to useyour remote control. You can lockand unlock the doors with the key.
Note:You could unlock the doors ifyou press the buttons on the remotecontrol unintentionally.
The operating range between yourremote control and your vehiclevaries depending on theenvironment.
PROGRAMMING THE
REMOTE CONTROL
A maximum of eight remote controlscan be programmed (including theones delivered with the vehicle). Theremote controls must remain insidethe vehicle during the programmingprocedure. Fasten the front seatbelts and close all doors to ensurethat conflicting chimes do not soundduring programming.
•To programme new remotecontrols turn the ignition key toposition II four times within sixseconds.
•Turn the ignition to position 0. Atone sounds to indicate that it isnow possible to programme theremote controls for ten seconds.

•Switch the ignition back on(position II) or wait for tenseconds without programminganother remote control to end thekey programming. Only theremote controls which you havejust programmed are now able tolock and unlock the vehicle.
Reprogramming theunlocking function
You can change the unlockingfunction so that pressing the unlockbutton once deactivates the centrallocking or double locking, disarmsthe anti-theft alarm system andunlocks only the driver’s door.Pressing the unlock button twicewithin three seconds also unlocks thepassengers’ doors.
In order to re-programme thefunction, press and hold the unlockand lock buttons simultaneously forat least four seconds with the ignitionswitched off. The direction indicatorswill flash twice to indicate that theunlocking function has beensuccessfully re-programmed.
Pressing and holding both buttonssimultaneously for at least fourseconds again will change thefunction back.
CHANGING THE REMOTE
CONTROL BATTERY
If the range of the transmitter in theremote control decreases gradually,the battery (type 3V CR 2032) shouldbe replaced.

KEYLESS ENTRY
General information
The key free system allows the driverto operate the vehicle without theuse of a key or remote control.
The advantages of the key freesystem are:
•the vehicle can be locked andunlocked without having to inserta key into the door lock or pressany buttons on a remote control.
•the engine can be started withoutthe need to insert a key into theignition. See Starting theengine (page 141).

WARNING
The vehicle does not lock itselfautomatically. If no lockingbutton is pressed, the vehicle willremain unlocked.
Note:Before leaving the vehicle,ensure that the ignition switch ispulled out. See Ignition switch(page 141).
Note:A valid passive key must belocated within the detection range ofthe respective door. If locking fromthe tailgate, the passive key must bewithin the tailgate detection range.
Note:Once activated, the vehiclewill remain locked for approximatelythree seconds, even if the passivekey is within the detection rangeduring this delay period. This is toallow you to pull a door handle andcheck if the vehicle is locked. Whenthe delay period is over, the doorscan be opened again, provided thepassive key is within the respectivedetection range. The delay periodcan be set to zero by an expert.
Note:If a passive key is left insidethe vehicle PASSIVE KEY LEFTINSIDE appears in the informationdisplay. Remove the passive keyfrom the vehicle interior. All passivekeys left inside the vehicle when it islocked will be disabled.
To activate central locking and armthe alarm:
•Press the locking button on oneof the front doors or the tailgateonce.
•On vehicles without doublelocking, the direction indicatorswill flash twice as confirmation.
To activate double locking, to armthe alarm and the interior sensors:
•Press the locking button on oneof the front doors or the tailgatetwice within three seconds.
•The direction indicators will flashtwice as confirmation.
Deactivating the key freefunction
The key free function can bedeactivated using the informationdisplay. See Information displays(page 96).
Once it is deactivated:
•the vehicle can only be lockedand unlocked using the spare keyin the lock cylinder on the driver’sdoor or using the buttons on thepassive key.
•the engine can only be startedwith the spare key.

Take care when using globalclosing. In an emergency, pressthe button on the driver’s doorhandle to stop.
Note:Global closing can beactivated using the button on thedriver’s door handle. Global openingand closing can also be activatedusing the buttons on the passive key.
To close all the windows, press andhold the button on the driver’s doorhandle for at least two seconds. Theanti-trap function is also active duringglobal closing.

WARNING
Do not operate the informationdisplay controls when thevehicle is moving.
Various systems can beprogrammed using the informationdisplay and the multi-function leveron the steering column.
Controls
Turn the rotary control to scrollthrough the available displays withina menu or to choose a setting. Toscroll automatically, hold the rotarycontrol in the upward or downwardposition.
Press the SET/RESET button tochoose a sub-menu and adjust thesettings. If the chimes are activated,a short tone will sound each time thebutton is pressed.
Type 2 and 3
Press the up and down arrowbuttons on the steering wheel toscroll through the trip computerdisplays. See Informationmessages (page 103).

Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine You can set the temperaturebetween 16ºC and 28ºC in steps of0.5ºC. In position LO (below 16ºC)the system will switch to permanentcooling, in HI (above 28ºC) topermanent heating, and not regulatea stable temperature.
Mono mode
In mono mode, the temperaturesettings for both the driver’s andpassenger’s side are linked. If youadjust the temperature using therotary control on the driver’s side, thesettings will be adjusted to the samesetting on the passenger’s side. Inmono mode, MONO appears in thedisplay.
To switch mono mode off
Select a temperature for thepassenger’s side with the rotarycontrol on the passenger’s side.Mono mode will switch off andMONO disappears from the display.The temperature for the driver’s sidewill remain unchanged. You can nowadjust the driver and passenger sidetemperatures independently of eachanother. The temperature settingsfor each side are shown in thedisplay. You can set a temperaturedifference of up to 4ºC.
Note:If you set a temperature ofgreater than 4°C, the temperatureon the other side will be adjusted sothat the difference remains 4°C.
Note:If you set one of the sides toHI or LO, both sides will be set to HIor LO.
To switch mono mode backon
To switch mono mode back on,press the MONO button. MONOreappears in the display and thepassenger’s side temperature will beadjusted to the driver’s sidetemperature.
Blower
Use the buttons to adjust the blowerspeed.
The blower setting is indicated in thedisplay.
To return to auto mode, press theAUTO button.
Air distribution
To adjust air distribution, press thedesired button. Any combination ofsettings can be selectedsimultaneously.
