EOBD SYSTEM
The EOBD system (European On Board
Diagnosis) allows continuous diagnosis of
emission-related components of the vehi-
cle. It also alerts the driver, by switching
on of the warning light Uon the instru-
ment panel (together with relevant mes-
sage on the display in some versions)
when these components are no longer in
peak conditions (see section “Warning
lights and messages”).
The objective of this system is:
❒to keep the system efficiency under
control;
❒to warn about increased emissions due
to a vehicle malfunction;
❒to warn of the need to replace deteri-
orated components.The system also has a diagnostic connector
that can be interfaced with appropriate
tools, which makes it possible to read the
error codes stored in the control unit to-
gether with a series of specific parameters
for engine operation and diagnosis.
This check can also be carried out by the
traffic police.
IMPORTANT After eliminating the prob-
lem, to check the system completely, Fi-
at Dealerships are obliged to run a bench
test and, if necessary, road tests which
may also call for a long journey.Go to a Fiat Dealership as
soon as possible if warning
light Udoes not light up when the
key is turned to MAR or if, during
travel, the warning light comes on ei-
ther steady or blinking (along with a
message on the display). The opera-
tion of the warning light Umay be
checked by the traffic police using
specific devices. Follow the laws in
force in the country where you are
driving.

control system failure
Under normal conditions, when the igni-
tion key is moved to MAR, the warning
light turns on and should go off after en-
gine start-up.
This indicates that the warning light is
working correctly. If the warning light ei-
ther stays on or comes on during vehicle
travel, the following applies.
❒Steady light: indicates a fault in the sup-
ply/ignition system which could cause
high emissions at the exhaust, possible
reduced performances, poor drivabili-
ty and high fuel consumption levels.
On certain versions the dedicated mes-
sage is displayed.
In these conditions, the vehicle can con-
tinue travelling at moderate speed with-
out demanding excessive effort from
the engine or high speeds. Prolonged
use of the vehicle with the warning light
on may cause damage. Go to a Fiat
Dealership as soon as possible.
The warning light goes out after the
fault is cleared, and the indication is
stored in the system.❒Flashing light: indicates the possibility of
damage to the catalyst (see “EOBD sys-
tem” in section “Dashboard and con-
trols”).
If the warning light flashes, release the
accelerator pedal to lower the speed of
the engine until the warning light stops
flashing; continue the journey at mod-
erate speed, trying to avoid driving con-
ditions that may cause further flashing
and contact the Fiat Dealership as soon
as possible.
Go to a Fiat Dealership as
soon as possible if warning
light Udoes not light up
when the key is turned to
MAR or if, while travelling, the warning
light comes on either steady or blinking
(along with a message on the display).
The operation of the warning light U
may be checked by the traffic police us-
ing specific devices. Follow the laws in
force in the country where you are dri-

When the ignition key is moved to MAR,
the warning light turns on and should go
off after a few seconds. The warning light
turns on when the diesel particulate fil-
ter is clogged and the driving conditions
do not enable automatic activation of the
regeneration procedure.
To allow the regeneration procedure and
clean the filter, keep the vehicle running
until the warning light turns off.
The display will show the dedicated mes-
sage.

FUEL RESERVE

When the ignition key is moved to MAR,
the warning light turns on and should go
off after a few seconds.
The warning light turns on when about 6
to 7 litres of fuel are left in the tank.
IMPORTANT The warning light flashes to
indicate a system failure. If this is the case,
go to a Fiat Dealership to have the system
checked.
