10Earth.Maximum power to be
applied to the aerial is
20W.
Have the cellular tele-
phone installed and con-
nected to the setup sys-
tem in the vehicle by a Fiat Deal-
ership only. This will ensure the
best results and prevent any
problems which could effect ve-
hicle safety.
Purchase a free-hands kit
which is compatible for
your cellular telephone.

Have the cellular telephone and the
connections performed by a Fiat
Dealershiponly.
In Fiat Doblò passengers Transport
versions, use a screwdriver in the
point shown in fig. 147to reach the
ten pin connector. Lift the central tun-
nel cover and remove the connector.
In Fiat Doblò Cargo versions, loosen
the screws shown in fig. 148in the
glove compartment to reach the ten
pin connector. Use a screwdriver in
the pre-cut point and remove the con-

108DRIVING YOUR VEHICLE
IMPORTANTAfter a taxing drive
you should allow the engine to “catch
its breath” before turning it off by let-
ting it idle to allow the temperature in
the engine compartment to fall.
PARKING
Switch off the engine, pull up the
handbrake and engage a gear (1st gear
or reverse, according to whether the
vehicle is facing up or downhill) and
leave the wheels turned. If the vehi-
cle is left on a steep slope, wedges or
a rock should be used to lock the
wheels.
Do not leave the ignition key at
MARto prevent draining the battery.
Always remove the key when you
leave the vehicle.HANDBRAKE
The handbrake lever is located be-
tween the two front seats.
Pull the handbrake lever upwards un-
til the vehicle cannot be moved. Four
or five clicks are generally enough
when the vehicle is on level ground
while nine or ten may be required if
the vehicle is on a steep slope or laden.
IMPORTANTIf this is not the
case, take the vehicle to a Fiat Deal-
ership to have the handbrake adjust-
ed.
Instrument panel warning light x
will come on when the handbrake
lever is pulled up and the ignition key
is at MAR.
To release the handbrake:
1)Slightly lift the handbrake and
press release button A-fig.1.
2)Keep the button pressed in and
lower the lever. Warning light xwill
go out.
3)Press the brake pedal when car-
rying out this operation to prevent the
vehicle moving accidentally. STOPPING THE ENGINE
Turn the key to STOPwhile the
engine is idling.
A quick burst on the ac-
celerator before turning
off the engine serves ab-
solutely no practical purpose and
wastes fuel.
Never leave children un-
supervised in the vehicle.

144IN AN EMERGENCY
IF THE BATTERY
IS FLAT
First of all, read the “Vehicle main-
tenance” section for the steps to be
taken to avoid the battery running
down and to ensure it has a long life.
IF THE BATTERY IS FLAT
Charging should be slow at a low
amp rating for 24 hours. Charging for
a longer time may damage the battery.
Proceed as follows:
1) Disconnect the electrical system
from the battery terminals.
IMPORTANTWhere relevant,
switch the electronic alarm off with
the remote control.2)Connect the charger cables to the
battery terminals.
3)Turn on the charger.
4)When you have finished, turn the
charger off before disconnecting the
battery.
5)Reconnect the cables to the bat-
tery terminals. Make sure the polari-
ty is correct.JUMP STARTING
See “Jump starting”, in this chapter.
The liquid in the battery
is poisonous and corro-
sive. Do not let it touch
the skin or eyes. Recharging the
battery should be done in a well-
ventilated area away from naked
flames or possible sources of
sparks: explosion and fire risk.
Do not attempt to
recharge a frozen bat-
tery. Thaw it first other-
wise it could explode. If the bat-
tery froze, make sure that the in-
ternal elements are not broken
(short-circuit risk) and that the
casing is not cracked (risk of
spilling the poisonous and corro-
sive fluid).
Under no circumstances
should a battery charger
be used to start the en-
gine: it could damage the elec-
tronic systems and in particular
the ignition and injection control
units.
