Operation of the Mu lt i M edia In terface (MMI) is described in a sepa
rate manual. •
Instruments and warning /indicator lights
-Press the"-" button to decrease the brightness during
the hours of darkness.
A light sensor in the instrument cluster controls the illumination for
the instrument clust er, the center console and the displays . In a
bright environment , using the buttons to change the brightness has
no effect .
[ i] Tips
The illumination for the instrument cluster lights up whenever you
switch on the ignition with the
vehicle headlights off. As the
daylight fades, the instrument cluster illumination likewise dims
automatically and will go out completely when the outside light is
very low. This feature is meant to remind you to switch on the head
lights when outside light conditions become poor. •
Warning/indicator lights
Overview
The warning/indicator lights indicate different functions
or a possible malfunction.

The remote control allows y ou to l ock or unlock the
vehicle electronically.

The transmitter and battery are located in the head of the remote
control. The r eceiver is locat ed ins ide th e vehicle . Th e maximum
ef fective range depends on several th ings. Remember, if the battery
is weak, the effective range decreases.
If you need to replace the remote contro l, or if you need to have it
repaired, you must see your authorized Audi dealer. On ly then can
you use the key again .

When the ignition is turned off or when the vehicle is locked, various convenience set tings are stored automatical ly and assigned to the
key that was used . The settings assigned to the key are automati
cally recalled with you unloc k the vehicle or when you open a door
or when you switch on the igni tion .

The
Remo te co ntrol ke y function must be activated in MMI
~ page 95, so that the settings fo r the driver's seat (including the
settings for the head restraint, steering column , safety be lt height
and exterior mirrors) are saved on the master key through the seat
memory when the vehicle is locked, and are set automatically when
the vehic le is unlock ed.

• If the ignition is switched on, the remote control system is deac
tivated .
• The remote control system can be affected by other systems
opera ting in the same frequency range close to the vehicle, such as
mobile tel ephones, television broadcasting stations, etc. •

The child safety lock prevents the rear doors from being
opened from the inside.

The rear doors have a child safety lock. You can use any
vehicle key to engage and disengage the lock. The child
safety lock is visible only when the door is open.
-To switch on the child safety lock, turn the ignition key in
the direction of the arrow.
-To switch off the child safety lock, turn the ignition key in
the opposite direction to the arrow.
The child safety lock prevents the doors from being opened from the
inside when you have small children sitting in the rear. •

The power child safety lock prevents the rear doors from

-Press the left and/or right safety button to disable the
rear power window(sl and prevent the respective rear
door from being opened from the inside. The LED in the
button will light up when the child safety lock is turned
on.
-Press the illuminated button again to turn the child
safety features
off .
When the child safety lock is activated, the interior door opening
lever is inoperative; the door can only be opened from the outside.
In addition, the window regulator for that door is also inoperative
when the child safety lock is activated .
If the child safety lock has been activated on both the left
and right
side, then the following features are switched off: the buttons for
the interior lights , the sun blind * in the rear window and the buttons
~
for the power sun blinds* in the side windows . In addition to this,
t he rear climate contro l* is set to the
PA SS IV E mode. This means
that the climate controls in the front adjust the heating and venti la
tion in the rear of the
ve hicle => page 125.
[ i ] Tips
• I n order to activate the child safety lock on the left and the right
s ide, you have to press the two safety buttons in succession.
• Make certa in that the indica tor light in the corresponding safety
button illuminates when the child safety lock is activated .•
Advanced Key
A pplies to vehicles : with Advance d Key
Description
Opening your vehicle and starting the engine with the key
still in your pocket.
T he Advanced Key features is a keyless system which gives you the
possibility to lock and unlock your vehic le, as wel l as to start the
engine without having to use your key.
It does not matter if you have your key in your jacket pocket or in
your briefcase. As soon as you get within a certain distance to the
vehic le, t he system senses that your are approaching, it makes a
quick check to see if you are "authorized" and then it does the
following:
• unlocks the
veh ic le => page 60 .
• locks the vehicle => page 60.
• switches on the ignition and starts the engine when you press
t he [ START] button. You do not have to insert your key into the ign i
tion
lock=> page 131.

& WARNING
• When you lock your vehi cle from out side , nobod y -espe cially
c hildren - should remain in side the vehicle. Remembe r, when you
lock the vehi cle from the out side the windo ws cannot be opened
from the in side.
• Wh en yo u le ave the vehi cle , al ways remove the ignition ke y and
t ak e it with you. Thi s will prevent pa ssenger s (children , for
e x ample ) from accident ally bein g locked in th e vehicle should the y
accid entally pre ss the powe r lo cking swit ch in the door s.
• Do not l eav e children in side the vehi cle un super vis ed . In an
emerg ency it would be impo ssible to open the doors from the
out side without the key .
[ i ] Tip s
• For the Advanced Key to properly work, you must a lways have
your vehicle key with you .
• The vehic le will lock or un lock the doors only if an authorized key
comes within 5 ft (1 .5 meters) from one of the vehic le doors or the
rear lid .
• You can st ill lock or unlock your vehic le using the remote control
key buttons, however the se lector lever must in the P position .•
• The driver can lower or raise the power side blinds * in the side
windows by using switches

Switches in the driver's door
The driver can operate all windows.
If the respective switch is pus hed or pulled the window will
open or c lose. The power window switches have a
two-po si
tion fun ction :
Opening th e windows
- Pu sh the switch to the first stop and hold it the re until the
window has lowered to t he desired pos ition.
- Push the sw itch briefly to the
s e cond stop : the wi ndow
will aut omatical ly open a ll the way .
Closing th e windows
- Pull the switch up to the first stop and hold it t here until
the window has risen to the desired position.
- Pu ll the switch quick ly to the
se cond position: the
window will automatica lly close all the
way => & in

The LED in the button will go off.
By pressing the sa fet y swi tc h ® => page 62, fig. 48, the function of
some sw itches in the rear can be turned off . When
the ~ symbol in
the safety switch illuminates, the following functions are switched
off:
• The power windows in the rear doors.
• The buttons for t he interior lights.
• The buttons for the power sun b linds* in side windows .
• The button for the power sun bl ind* in the rear w indow.
• I n vehic les with rear climate contro l* the PASSIVE mode is acti
vated . In this mode the rear air conditioning can be operated only
from contro ls in the driver's
area => page 125 .
This feature has been provided for the safety of smal l ch ildren rid ing
in the rear of the vehic le.

these features can likewise be switched off . Both

must be pressed.
• If
only the left CI) button is pressed, then only the re ar left door
power window is switched off and the door is locked.
• If
only th e right CI) button is pressed, then only the rear right
door
power window is switched off and the door is locked.
the shade shuts off when the temperature in the vehicle falls below
23 °F (- 5 °C). The shade cannot be operated until the passenger
compartment warms up above this temperature. •

You can operate the rear side window sunshades either by
using the power window switches in the driver's door, the
power window switches in the rear doors or the button
located in the rooflining in the rear of the vehicle.

-Press the right or left button to lower or raise the
sunshade => fig. 73.

-Pull the switch to its second position and hold it there
briefly to lower the sunshade.
-Press the switch to its second position to raise the
sunshade.

-Pull either of the two switches to its second position and
hold it there briefly. The sunshade will automatically
lower.
-Press the switch to its second position and the sunshade
automatically raises .
& WARNING
When lowering or raising the sunshade, make sure there is
nothing in its way and that it has a free path to travel. This could
cause personal injury.

The sunshade works only if the window is closed. •

Driver's seat memory
The seat adjustment settings for four drivers can be
stored using the memory buttons in the driver's door.

In addition to the setting for the driver's seat, the settings for the
head restraints, safety belt height, steering column and both exte
rior mirrors can be stored .
Storing and recalling settings
Using the memory buttons 1, 2, 3 and 4, you can store and recall the
settings for four different
drivers => fig. 94.
The current settings are also automatically stored on the remote
control key being used when the vehicle is locked. When the vehicle
is unlocked, the settings stored on the remote control key being
used are automatically recalled. This function has to be activated in
MMI => page 95.
Turning seat memory on and off
If the [ ON/OFF I switch is depressed, the seat memory is inoperative.
The word
OFF next to the [ON /OFF ! switch illuminates.
All the stored settings are retained. We recommend using the
[ ON /OFF! switch and deactivating the seat memory if the vehicle is only going to be used
temporarily by a driver whose settings are not
going to be stored. •
Storing and recalling a seat position
Before you can store or recall your seat position, the
[ ON /OFF] button must be engaged (down).
Storing settings
-Adjust the driver's seat => page 87.
-Adjust the head restraint => page 91.
-Adjust the steering column => page 128.
-Adjust both outside mirrors=> page 84. In the tilt-down
position, the passenger mirror can be adjusted to the
preferred position and saved in the seat memory.
-Press the [SET] button and hold it down. At the same
time, press one of the memory buttons for at least one
second.
-Release the buttons. The settings are now stored under
the corresponding memory button.
Recalling settings
-Driver's door open - press the desired memory button .
-Driver's door closed - press the corresponding memory
button until the stored position is reached.
When the vehicle is locked, the current settings are stored and
assigned to the remote control key. But the settings stored on
memory buttons 1 to 4 are not deleted. They can be recalled at any
time. When the vehicle is
unlocked , the settings stored on the
remote control key are restored. .,_
