• The digital c lock and the odometer are turned on for about 30
seconds when the driver's door is opened.
• When the ignition is turned off, the odometer reading and the
digital clock with date display can be switched on for about
30 seconds by pressing the !CHECK] button~
page 16, fig. 5. •
Speedometer with odometer
The speedometer shows you the vehicle speed, and the
odometer shows you how many miles (kilometers) you
have driven.

The odometer and trip odometer are located inside the speedom ­
eter.
• USA models - Miles
• Canada models -Kilometers
You can switch the disp lay from miles to kilometers and vice versa
via the MMI.
Lower odometer
The lower odometer shows the total number of miles (kilometers)
driven .

Instruments and warning /indicator lights
Upper odometer (trip odometer)
The upper odometer shows the total number of miles (kilometers)
driven since you last reset the odometer to zero. You can use this
odometer when you want to keep track of how many miles (kilome ­
ters) you have driven for a single trip or errand. The last digit indi­
cates 1/10 of a mile (100 meters).
You can reset the trip odometer to zero by pressing the Reset button
~ o.o.
Malfunction message
If there is a malfunction somewhere in the instrument cluster,
dEF
wil l appear in the trip odometer and will stay on . Contact your
authorized Audi dealer to have the problem corrected .
Immobilizer
When the ignition is switched on, the data on the ignition key are
scanned automatically.
If an unauthorized key was used,
SAFE is displayed continuously in
the odometer display field. The vehicle cannot be operated
~ page 51.

When this symbol 5' illuminates for the first time, the fuel reserve
in your vehicles is still about 2 Gallons (7 to 9 liters}. Refuel as soon
as possible~

If the symbol lights up, even when there is ample fuel in the tank,
and the text
Tank system malfunction! Contact workshop appears
in the display, there is a fault in the system . Contact a qualified work ­
shop to have the fault rectified .•
Battery voltage LJ
If battery power drops below a specified level, idling current
management starts by switching off electrical loads. The driver
message
Power-saving mode activated is shown in the display.
If the battery's state of charge is not in the optimal range, the

symbol is shown in the display and the driver message Low battery
charge: battery will be charged while driving
appears .
While this driver notification is displayed, you have to be prepared
for limited starting capability.
Driver message appears and goes out again
If this driver message appears after the ignition is turned on or
while driving and it goes out again after a while, the battery has
been adequately recharged.
Driver message appears and does not go out again
If this driver notification appears after the ignition is turned on or
while driving and does not go out again, the battery's state of
charge is not in the optimal range. Starting capability is restricted.
Have the battery checked by an authorized Audi dealer as soon as
possible. •

have the front brake pads inspected (on that occasion have the rear
brakes inspected as well to be safel. •
Headlight range control defective

longer working properly . Have the system checked and repaired at
your Audi dealer. •

When the symbol illuminates, check the engine oil level as soon as
possible ~

General information

Your authorized Audi dealer has a variety of dedicated vehicle- care

and can adv ise whic h ones to use for clea ning the e xter ior
and interior of your vehicle.
Whethe r you use p roducts recommended by Audi or other c ommer ­
cia lly availab le cleaning agents , please make sure you apply them
correctly.

• Cleaning agents may be poisonous. Keep them out of the reach
of ch ildren .
• Heed all caution label s.
• Always read directions on the contai ner before using any
product. Follow the di rection s carefully .
• Most chemical cleaners are concentrated and have to be
d iluted.
• Use spot removing fluids only in well ventilated area s.
• Do not use gasoline , kerosene , die sel fuel , nail polish remover
or other volatile fluids . They may be toxic , flammable or hazardous
in other way s. Do not wash , wa x or dry the vehicle w ith the igni ­
tion on or the engine running.

• Do not clean the under side s of chassis , fenders , wheel cove rs,
etc . without protecting your hands and arms. You may cut yourself
on sharp -edg ed metal parts .
• Moisture and ice on brakes may impair braking effi ciency

time you wa sh the vehicle.

Care of exterior
Washing
Frequen t washing pro tects the vehi cle.
Th e bes t protection against envi ronmental influences is frequent
washing and waxing . How often this is required depends on:
• Ho w much the vehic le is used
• Where the vehic le is parked (garage, in the open under trees,
etc.)
• T he seasonal and weather conditions
• Environmenta l influences
T he longer bird droppings, insects, tree resin, road and industrial
gri me, tar, soot, road salt and ot her materials rema in on the ve hicle
body, the more lasting their destruc tive effects will be . High temper ­
atu res caused by exp osu re to in tense s un ligh t inte nsify the c orro -
sive effect, particularly when humidity is high as well.
