SAFETY
ROLL-OVER BARS
System which protects all of the oc-
cupants restrained by their seat belt
should the vehicle roll over.
The roll-over bars are incorporated in
the back of the rear bench seat. Their
presence is indicated by the words
"Rollover Protection".
Activation
They are triggered simultaneously
should the vehicle roll over.
Operating fault If this warning light comes on
on the instrument panel, ac-
companied by an audible sig-
nal and a message on the
multifunction display, contact a
PEUGEOT dealer to have the
system checked. In order to guarantee the correct
operation and the deployment of
the roll-over bars if roll-over is de-
tected, the following conditions
must be complied with:
- no accessory which is not
recommended by PEUGEOT
should be in contact with or
fi xed to the roll-over bars,
- no object should block or stop the movement of the roll-over bars,
- the area above the roll-over bars should be clear of any objects.

SEAT BELTS
Front seat belts
The front seat belts are fi tted with a pre-
tensioning and force limiting system.
This system improves safety in the front
seats in the event of a front impact.
Depending on the severity of the im-
pact, the pretensioning system instantly
tightens the seat belts against the body
of the occupants.
The pretensioning seat belts are active
when the ignition is on.
The force limiter reduces the pressure
of the seat belt on the chest of the occu-
pant, so increasing his protection. Seat belt not fastened/unfastened
warning light
Fastening

 Pull the strap, then insert the tongue
in the buckle.

 Check that the seat belt is fastened
correctly by pulling the strap.
When the ignition is switched
on, this warning light comes on,
either on the instrument panel
or on the seat belt and passen-
ger’s front air bag warning lights
display, if the driver and/or the front pas-
senger has not fastened his seat belt.
Unfastening

 Press the red button on the buckle.

 Guide the seat belt as it rolls up.

1. Front and/or rear seat belts not fas-
tened/unfastened warning light.

2. Front left seat belt warning light.

3. Front right seat belt warning light.

4. Rear right seat belt warning light.

5. Rear left seat belt warning light.
Seat belt not fastened/unfastened
warning lights display
The corresponding warning light
2 or 3
comes on in red on the seat belt and
passenger’s front air bag warning lights
display if the seat belt is not fastened or
is unfastened.
From approximately 12 mph (20 km/h)
this warning light fl ashes for two min-
utes accompanied by an audible sig-
nal of increasing volume. Once these
two minutes have elapsed, this warning
light remains on until the driver and/or
the front passenger fastens his seat
belt.

Rear seat belts
The rear seats are each fi tted with a
three-point inertia reel seat belt with
force limiter. Seat belt unfastened warning light This warning light comes on,
either on the instrument panel
or on the seat belt and passen-
ger’s front air bag warning lights
display, when one or more rear passen-
gers unfasten their seat belt.
From approximately 12 mph (20 km/h),
this warning light fl ashes for two min-
utes accompanied by an audible signal
of increasing volume. Once these two
minutes have elapsed, this warning
light remains on until the one or more
rear passengers fasten their seat belt.
Fastening

 Remove the strap from the guide A
before use.

 Pull the strap, then insert the tongue
in the buckle.

 Check that the seat belt is fastened
correctly by pulling the strap. Seat belt unfastened warning lights

When the ignition is switched on, with
the engine running or the vehicle mov-
ing at a speed below approximately
12 mph (20 km/h), the corresponding
warning lights
4 and 5 come on in red
for approximately 30 seconds, if the
seat belt is not fastened.
When the vehicle is moving at a speed
of more than approximately 12 mph
(20 km/h), the corresponding warning
light 4 or 5 comes on in red, accompa-
nied by an audible signal and a mes-
sage on the multifunction display, if a
rear passenger has unfastened his seat
belt.
Unfastening

 Press the red button on the buckle.

 Guide the seat belt as it rolls up. In the "cabriolet" confi guration, if
the rear seats are not occupied,
slide the straps in the guides

prevent fl uttering of the rear seat
belts (leather seats only).

If at least one of the two air bag
warning lights come on continu-
ously, do not install a child seat on
the front passenger seat.
Have the system checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer.
Operating fault
If this warning light comes on on
the instrument panel, accompa-
nied by an audible warning and
a message on the multifunction
display, contact a PEUGEOT dealer to
have the system checked. The air bags
may no longer be triggered in the event
of a serious impact.
Reactivation
When you remove the child seat, turn
switch 1 to the "ON" position to re-arm
the air bag and so guarantee the safety
of your front passenger in the event of
an impact.
With the ignition on, this warn-
ing light comes on on the seat
belt and passenger’s front air
bag warning lights display for
approximately one minute, if the pas-
senger’s front air bag is activated. To guarantee the safety of your
child, it is imperative that the pas-
senger’s front air bag is disarmed
when you install a "rear facing"
child seat on the front passenger
seat.
Otherwise, the child would risk be-
ing seriously injured or killed if the
air bag were triggered.
According to version, this warn-
ing light comes on either on
the instrument panel or on the
seat belt and passenger’s front
air bag warning lights display when the
ignition is on and until the air bag is
re-armed. If this warning light fl ashes,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
The passenger’s front air bag
may no longer be triggered in
the event of a serious impact.
Deactivation
Only the passenger’s front air bag can
be disarmed:

 with the ignition off , insert the key
in the passenger air bag disarming
switch 1 ,

 turn it to the "OFF" position,

 then, remove the key keeping the
switch in this position.

Side air bags
System which protects the driver and
front passenger in the event of a seri-
ous side impact in order to limit the risk
of injury to the pelvis, chest and head.
The side air bags are incorporated on
the door side:
- on the one hand, in the front seat back frame (chest-pelvis air bag),
- on the other hand, in the front head restraint (head air bag).
Activation
The side air bags are triggered unilater-
ally in the event of a serious side impact
applied to all or part of the side impact
zone B , perpendicular to the longitudinal
centreline of the vehicle on a horizon-
tal plane and directed from the outside
towards the inside of the vehicle.
The side air bags infl ate between the
front occupant of the vehicle and the
corresponding door trim pad. Operating fault

B. Side impact zone. If this warning light on the instru-
ment panel comes on, accom-
panied by an audible signal and
a message on the multifunction
display, contact a PEUGEOT dealer to
have the system checked. The air bags
may no longer be triggered in the event
of a serious impact.
In the event of a light impact or
bump to the side of the vehicle of
if the vehicle rolls over, the air bags
may not be triggered.
In the event of a rear or front col-
lision, the air bags are not trig-
gered.

DRIVING
When parking on a slope, direct
your wheels to chock them against
the pavement, pull the handbrake
and engage a gear.
HANDBRAKE
Mechanical brake to hold the vehicle
when stationary.
Applying

 Pull the handbrake to immobilise
your vehicle. When the vehicle is being
driven, if this warning light and

STOP the warning light come
on, accompanied by an audible
signal and a message on the multi-func-
tion display, this indicates that the hand-
brake is still on or has not been properly
released.
Releasing

 Pull on the handle and press the
button A to release the handbrake.
6-SPEED MANUAL GEARBOX
As a safety precaution and to facili-
tate starting of the engine:
- always select neutral,
- press the clutch pedal.
Only engage reverse gear when
the vehicle is stationary with the
engine at idle.
Engaging reverse gear

 Raise the ring under the knob and
push the gear lever to the left then
forwards.

"PORSCHE TIPTRONIC SYSTEM" AUTOMATIC GEARBOX
Four or six speed automatic gearbox
which offers a choice between the com-
fort of fully automatic operation, en-
hanced by sport and snow programmes,
or manual gear changing.
Therefore, four driving modes are of-
fered:
- automatic operation for electronic
management of the gears by the
gearbox,
- sport programme for a more dy-
namic style of driving,
- snow programme to improve driv-
ing when traction is poor,
- manual operation for sequential
changing of the gears by the driver. Gear lever

P. Park.
- Immobilisation of the vehicle, hand- brake on or off.
- Starting the engine.

R. Reverse.
- Reversing manoeuvres, vehicle sta- tionary, engine at idle.

N. Neutral.
- Immobilisation of the vehicle, hand- brake on.

D. Automatic operation.

M.+/- Manual operation with sequential
changing of the four or six gears.

 Press forwards to change up through
the gears.

Moving off

 Apply the handbrake.

 Select position P or N .

 Start the engine.
If this procedure is not followed, an au-
dible signal is heard, accompanied by a
message on the multifunction display.

 With the engine running, press the
brake pedal.

 Release the handbrake.

 Select position R , D or M ,

 Gradually release the brake pedal.
The vehicle moves off immediately.
If position N is engaged inadvert-
ently while driving, allow the engine
to return to idle then engage posi-
tion D to accelerate. The gearbox then operates in auto-
adaptive mode, without any intervention
on the part of the driver. It continuously
selects the most suitable gear accord-
ing to the style of driving, the profi le of
the road and the load in the vehicle.
For maximum acceleration without
touching the lever, press the accelera-
tor pedal down fully (kick down). The
gearbox changes down automatically
or maintains the gear selected until the
maximum engine speed is reached.
On braking, the gearbox changes down
automatically to provide effi cient engine
braking.
If you release the accelerator sharply,
the gearbox will not change to a higher
gear for safety reasons.
Automatic operation

 Select position D for automatic
changing of the four or six gears.

Never select position N while the
vehicle is moving.
Never select positions P or R un-
less the vehicle is completely sta-
tionary.
When the engine is running at idle,
with the brakes released, if position

R , D or M is selected, the vehicle
moves even without the accelera-
tor being pressed.
When the engine is running, never
leave children in the vehicle with-
out supervision.
When carrying out maintenance
with the engine running, apply the
handbrake and select position P . Sport and snow programmes
These two special programmes supple-
ment the automatic operation in very
specifi c conditions of use.
Return to automatic operation

 At any time, press the button select-
ed again to quit the programme en-
gaged and return to auto-adaptive
mode.
