To store the jack, turn the jack joint
until the jack base fits securely with
the vehicle body.
This prevents the jack from flying for-
ward during a collision or sudden
stop.To remove the wheel nut wrench, first
disengage the upper part of the
wrench from the holding bracket and
remove it.
When storing the wheel nut wrench,
make sure the wr ench is securely
held.To remove the spare tire:
1. Slide the front passenger ’s seat to the front −most lock position and
the right side second seat to the
rear −most lock position so they
will not interfere with the wheel nut
wrench.
Open the right side sliding door
and you will find the flap on the
floor. Pull back the flap to find the
spare tire clamp bolt.

2. Loosen the spare tire clamp boltby turning it counterclockwise with
the wheel nut wrench.3. After the tire is lowered completelyto the ground, remove the holding
bracket.
When storing the spare tire, put it in
place with the outer side of the wheel
facing up. Then secure the tire, taking
care that the tire goes straight up
without catching on any other part, to
prevent it from flying forward during
a collision or sudden braking.
As the tire carrier is designed for the
compact spare tire, the standard tire
cannot be stored there.
CAUTION
Do not remove the spare tire
when jacking up the vehicle. The
tire carrier and the spare tire may
interfere with the jack and cause
a serious accident.
NOTICE
To secure spare tire clamp
bolt:
Do not use impact wrench,
but wheel nut wrench.
After taking out or stowing
the spare tire, make sure to
secure the tire carrier by
tightening the clamp bolt to
prevent the holding bracket
from hitting the under body
of the vehicle during driving.
Do not store the flat spare
tire with the tire carrier so it
may not be held securely.

When storing the spare tire, put it in
place with the outer side of the wheel
facing up. Then secure the tire by re-
peating the above removal steps in
reverse order to prevent it from flying
forward during a collision or sudden
braking.
2. Block the wheel diagonally op-posite the flat tire to keep the
vehicle from rolling when it is
jacked up.
When blocking the wheel, place a
wheel block in front of one of the front
wheels or behind one of the rear
wheels.3. Remove the wheel ornament.
Pry off the wheel ornament, using the
beveled end of the wheel nut wrench
as shown.

9. Lower the vehicle completelyand tighten the wheel nuts.
Turn the jack handle counterclock-
wise to lower the vehicle.
Use only the wheel nut wrench to
tighten the nuts. Do not use other
tools or any additional leverage other
than your hands, such as a hammer,
pipe or your foot. Make sure the
wrench is securely engaged over the
nut.
Tighten each nut a little at a time in
the order shown. Repeat the process
until all the nuts are tight.
CAUTION
When lowering the vehicle,
make sure all portions of your
body and all other persons
around will not be injured as
the vehicle is lowered to the
ground.
Have the wheel nuts tightened
with torque wrench to 103 N·m
(10.5 kgf·m, 76 ft·lbf), as soon
as possible after changing
wheels. Otherwise, the nuts
may loosen and the wheels
may fall off, which could cause
a serious accident.
Do not attach a heavily dam-
aged plastic wheel ornament.
It may fly off the wheel and
cause accidents while the ve-
hicle is moving.
10.Reinstall the wheel ornament.
1. Put the wheel ornament into posi- tion.
Align the cutout of the wheel orna-
ment with the valve stem as shown. 2. Press hand firmly on one side of wheel ornament and then firmly

range depending on the fluid temperature.
See page 486 in Section 7−2 for addition-
al information.
Exhaust system
If you notice any change in the sound of
the exhaust or smell exhaust fumes, have
the cause located and corrected immedi-
ately. (See “Engine exhaust cautions” on
page 392 in Section 2.)
INSIDE THE VEHICLE
Items listed below should be checked
regularly, e.g. while performing periodic
services, cleaning the vehicle, etc.

are all working. Check headlight aim.
Service reminder indicators and warning
buzzers
Check that all service reminder indicators
and warning buzzers function properly.
Steering wheel
Be alert for changes in steering condition,
such as hard steering or strange noise. Seats
Check that all seat controls such as seat
adjusters, seatback recliner, etc. operate
smoothly and that all latches lock securely
in any position. Check that the head re-
straints move up and down smoothly and
that the locks hold securely in any latched
position. For folding
−down rear seatbacks
and detachable second seats, check that
the latches lock securely.
Seat belts
Check that the seat belt system such as
buckles, retractors and anchors operate
properly and smoothly. Make sure the belt
webbing is not cut, frayed, worn or dam-
aged.
Accelerator pedal
Check the pedal for smooth operation and
uneven pedal effort or catching.
Brake pedal
Check the pedal for smooth operation and
that the pedal has the proper clearance.
Check the brake booster function.
Brakes
In a safe place, check that the brakes do
not pull to one side when applied. Parking brake
Check that the pedal has the proper travel
and that, on a safe incline, your vehicle
is held securely with only the parking
brake applied.
Automatic transmission “Park” mecha-
nism
On a safe incline, check that your vehicle
is held securely with the selector lever in
“P” position and all brakes released.
OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE
Items listed below should be performed
from time to time, unless otherwise
specified.
Fluid leaks
Check underneath for leaking fuel, oil, wa-
ter or other fluid after the vehicle has
been parked for a while. If you smell fuel
fumes or notice any leak, have the cause
found and corrected immediately.
Doors and engine hood
Check that all the doors including back
