3. Put in a new transmitter battery withpositive (+) side up.
Close the transmitter case securely.
NOTICE
Make sure the positive side and
negative side of the transmitter bat-
tery are faced correctly.
Do not replace the battery with wet
hands. Water may cause unexpected
rust.
Do not touch or move any compo-
nents inside the transmitter, or it
may interfere with proper operation.
Be careful not to bend the electrode
when inserting the transmitter bat-
tery and that dust or oils do not
adhere to the transmitter case.
Close the transmitter case securely.
After replacing the battery, check that the
transmitter operates properly. If the trans-
mitter still does not operate properly, con-
tact your Toyota dealer.TS12012
LOCKING AND UNLOCKING WITH KEY
Insert the key into the keyhole and turn
it.
To lock: Turn the key forward.
To unlock: Turn the key backward.
All the side doors and back door lock and
unlock simultaneously with either front
side door. In the driver’s door lock, turn-
ing the key once will unlock the driver’s
door and twice in succession will unlock
all the side doors and back door simulta-
neously.

If the indicator or buzzer comes on...Do this.
(h)Replace engine oil.
(i)orTake vehicle to Toyota dealer. If brake system warning light is also on, stop
immediately and contact Toyota dealer.
(j)Take vehicle to Toyota dealer.
(k)Close all side doors, back door and back window.
(l)Take vehicle to Toyota dealer immediately.
(m)Stop and check.
(n)Shift four−wheel drive control out of “N”.

The buzzer can be set not to sound by
following the procedure below.1. Sit on the front passenger seat.
2. Turn the ignition key to the “OFF” posi- tion with the odometer reading shown.
(For details, see “Odometer and two
trip meters” on page 100 in this Sec-
tion.)
3. Turn the ignition key to the “ON” posi- tion.
4. Within 6 seconds, push the trip meter reset knob and hold it for more than
10 seconds.
5. Insert the tab of front passenger seat belt into the buckle.
6. The odometer shows either “b −on” or
“b −off”. The reading changes by push-
ing the trip meter reset knob and the
setting of the front passenger seat belt
reminder buzzer can be changed. The
odometer display returns to normal if
the meter reset knob has not been
operated for more than 10 seconds or
the ignition key is turned to the “OFF”
position. (d) Charging System Warning Light
This warning light comes on when the
ignition key is turned to the “ON” position,
and goes off when the engine is started.
When there are problems in the charging
system while the engine is r
unning, the
warning light comes on.
NOTICE
When the charging system warning
light comes on while the engine is
running, malfunctions such as the en-
gine drive belt being broken may have
occurred. If the warning light comes
on, immediately stop the vehicle in a
safe place and contact your Toyota
dealer.
(e) Low Engine Oil Pressure Warning Light
This light warns that the engine oil pres-
sure is too low.
If it flickers or stays on while you are
driving, pull off the road to a safe place
and stop the engine immediately. Call a
Toyota dealer or qualified repair shop for
assistance.
The light may occasionally flicker when
the engine is idling or it may come on
briefly after a hard stop. There is no
cause for concern if it then goes out when
the engine is accelerated slightly.
The light may come on when the oil level
is extremely low. It is not designed to
indicate low oil level, and the oil level
must be checked using the level dipstick.
NOTICE
Do not drive the vehicle with the
warning light on—even for one block.
It may ruin the engine.
