Digital clock
A reset button is installed on the left below beside the speedometer for
adjusting the clock ⇒page 9, fig. 2.
Set hours
– Turn the reset button to the left.
Setting minutes
– Turn the reset button to the right.
WARNING
The clock should not be adjusted while driving for safety reasons but only when the vehicle is stationary.
Multi-functional indicator (onboard computer)*
Introduction
The multi-functional indicator appears in the display ⇒fig. 5 or in the information display ⇒page 16, fig. 8 depending on the equipment fitted to your vehicle.
The multi-functional indicator offers you a range of useful information.
Note
In certain national versions the displays appear in the Imperial system of measures.
Memory
The multi-functional indicator is equi pped with two automatic memories. The selected memory is displayed in the middle of the display field ⇒fig. 5.
The data of the single-trip memo ry (memory 1) is shown if a 1 appears in the display. A 2 shown in the display means that data relates to the total distance memory (memory 2).
Switching of the memory takes place when the button ⇒page 14, fig. 6.
Single-trip memory (memory 1)
The single-trip memory collates the driving information from the moment the igni- tion is switched on until it is switched of f. New data will also flow into the calcula- tion of the current driving information if the trip is continued within 2 hours after switching off the ignition. The memory will be is automatically erased, on the other hand, if the trip is interrupted for more than 2 hours.

Starting-off and Driving
Setting steering wheel position*
You can set the height and the forward/back position of the steering
wheel to the desired position.
– Adjust the driver seat ⇒page 54.
– Pull the lever below the steering column ⇒fig. 99 down ⇒.
– Set the steering wheel to the desired position (concerning height and
forward/back position).
– Then push the lever up against the steering column until it locks into
place.
WARNING
•You must not adjust the steering wh eel when the vehicle is moving!
•The driver must maintain a distance of at least 25 cm to the steering wheel ⇒fig. 100. Not maintaining this minimum distance will mean that the airbag system will not be able to properly protect you - hazard!
•For s a fe t y re a s ons the le v e r m ust a lwa y s b e fi rm l y pus he d up t o a vo id the steering wheel altering its position unintentionally when driving - risk of accident!
•If you adjust the steering wheel furthe r towards the head, you will reduce the protection offered by the driver airb ag in the event of an accident. Check that the steering wheel is aligned to the chest.
•When driving, hold the steering wheel with both hands firmly on the outer edge in the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock position. Never hold the steering wheel firmly in the 12 o'clock position or in another way (e.g. in the middle of the steering wheel or at the inner steering wheel edge). In such cases, injuries to the arms, the hands and the head can occur when the driver airbag is deployed.

Correct seated position
Correct seated position for the driver
Correct seated position for the driver is important for safe and
relaxed driving.
For your own safety and to reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accident, we recommend the following setting.
•Adjust the steering wheel so that the distance between the steering wheel and your chest is at least 25 cm ⇒fig. 116.
•Position the driver seat in the forward/back direction so that you are able to press the pedals with your legs at a slight angle .
•Adjust the backrest so that you are able to reach the highest point of the steering wheel with your arms at a slight angle.
•Adjust the head restraint so that the top edge of the head restraint is at the same level as the upper part of your head ⇒fig. 117.
•Fasten the seat belt correctly ⇒page 124, “How are seat belts correctly fastened?”.
Driver seat adjustment ⇒page 54, “Adjusting the front seats”.
WARNING
•The front seats and the head restraints must always be adjusted to match the body size of the seat occupant as well as the seat belts must always be correctly fastened in order to provide an optimal protection for you and your occupants.
•The driver must maintain a distance of at least 25 cm to the steering wheel ⇒fig. 116. Not maintaining this minimum distance will mean that the airbag system will not be able to properly protect you - hazard!
•The backrests must not be angled to o far back when driving otherwise this will affect proper operation of the seat belts and of the airbag system - risk of injury!
•Ensure that there are no objects in the footwell as any objects may get behind the pedals during a driving or braking manoeuvre. You would then no longer be able to operate the clutch, to brake or accelerate.
