Fueleconomywillvarydependingonwhere,whenandhowyoudrive,optionalequipmentinstalled,andthegeneralconditionofyourcar.Acartunedtospecicationsandcorrect-lymaintained,willhelpyoutoachieveoptimalfueleconomy.
Haveyourvehicletunedtospecifications.Aircleanershouldbedirtfreetoallowproperengine“breathing”.Batteryshouldbefullycharged.Wheelsshouldbeproperlyaligned.Tiresshouldbeinflatedtothecorrectpres-sure.
Alwaysmonitoryourfuelconsumption.
Drivesmoothly,avoidabruptchangesinspeedasmuchaspossible.
Avoidjackrabbitstartsandsuddenstops.
Donotdrivelongerthannecessaryinthelowergears.Shiftingintoahighergearearlywithoutluggingtheenginewillhelpsavefuel.
Prolonged“warmup”idlingwastesgas.Startthevehiclejustbeforeyouarereadytodrive.Accelerateslowlyandsmoothly.
Switchofftheengineifstationaryforlongerperiods(trafficlights,jams,levelcrossings).
Anyadditionalweightcarriedinthevehiclereducesfueleconomy.Alwayskeepcargotoaminimumandremoveallunnecessaryitems.
Organizeyourtripstotakeinseveralerrandsinonetrip.
Allelectricalaccessoriescontributetoincreasedfuelconsumption.
Onlyswitchontheairconditioningwhennecessary.
TheEPAestimatedmilespergallon(mpg)istobeusedforcomparisonpurposes,actualmileagemaybedifferentfromtheestimatedmpg,dependingonyourdrivingspeed,weatherconditionsandtriplength.Youractualhighwaymileagewillprobablybelessthantheestimatedmpg.
