Driving systems
Switching on Dynamic Rear View Moni-
tor
Switch on the ignition (page 336).
Switch on COMAND (page 81).
Move gear selector lever to position R
(reverse gear).
The COMAND display will show the
area behind the vehicle with guide lines
to help you reverse into a parking
place.Reverse parking (back-in parking)
This function helps you when you are re-
versing in a straight line or backing in at
any angle.
The space required by the vehicle for re-
versing is shown by guide lines.
When you turn the steering wheel to a
straight-ahead position, you will see the
guide lines on the COMAND display in the
following order:
there is a sudden change in tempera-
ture, for example when you drive out of
the cold into a heated garage in winter
(lens condensation)
the camera lens is dirty or covered, see
“Cleaning the Dynamic Rear View
Monitor lens*” (
page 560)
the rear of your vehicle is damaged. In
this case, have the position and setting
of the camera checked by a qualified
technician. Contact an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center.
Do not use the Dynamic Rear View Monitor
if the roads are icy, slippery or covered with
snow. The vehicle could slip causing the ac-
tual vehicle position to deviate from the one
shown on the COMAND display.
This may cause injury to you or others, or
damage the vehicle or objects.
Mounting tires/rims of other specification
than the original equipment tires/rims may
impair the function of the Dynamic Rear
View Monitor. Contact an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center.
Warning!G
Use of Dynamic Rear View Monitor can be
dangerous if you are color-blind or have im-
paired color vision.
Only use Dynamic Rear View Monitor if you
can see and distinguish all colored guide
lines shown by Dynamic Rear View Monitor
on the COMAND display.
iThe Dynamic Rear View Monitor must be ac-
tivated in the instrument cluster control system
in order for it to be switched on (
page 269).
iIf you activate a different function on the
driver’s COMAND controls while reverse parking
or parallel parking, the image from the back-up
camera is interrupted.
To reactivate the camera, take the vehicle out of
reverse gear and then re-engage reverse gear
again.

Turn steering wheel so that the yellow
and red guide lines for cornering7 are
pointing towards the desired parking
space.
The desired parking space is wide
enough if nothing is inside yellow and
red guide lines7 of your intended
driving path or protrudes into this area.
Back in carefully.
When the blue guide lines5 for
straight driving lie parallel inside the
desired parking space, straighten the
steering wheel for straight driving.
Back in enough to leave sufficient free
space around the vehicle.
Parallel parking
This function assists you when you wish to
park in a row, e.g. in a parking place paral-
lel to the road.
iThe Dynamic Rear View Monitor must be ac-
tivated in the instrument cluster control system
in order for it to be switched on (
page 269).
!While parking, do not approach any obsta-
cles closer than indicated by red guide line4.

Automatic climate control
Adjustments
Depending on vehicle production date, you
can adjust the air volume and the temper-
ature when the front defroster is switched
on. The air flow will remain on the wind-
shield and door windows.
Press buttonQ up or down to in-
crease or decrease air volume to the
desired level.
The air volume increases/decreases to
the next higher/lower blower speed
and heating switches to the tempera-
ture that was set before the front de-
froster was switched on.
The indicator lamp on button;

Heating switches to the temperature

iThe air conditioning compressor remains on
even with the indicator lamp on button;
goes out. This helps to prevent windshield from
fogging.
!The rear window defroster uses a large
amount of power. To keep battery drain to a min-
imum, switch off the defroster as soon as the
rear window is clear.
iThe defroster is automatically deactivated
after some time of operation depending on the
outside temperature.

Automatic climate control
Convenience opening: Press
button

2 seconds.
The side windows and/or tilt/sliding
sunroof will return to their previous po-
sition. You can release button
,
once the opening procedure has be-
gun. The windows and tilt/sliding sun-
roof continue opening until they have
reached their previous positions. The
indicator lamp on the button goes out.
The air recirculation mode is deactivat-
ed.
Residual engine heat and ventilation
With the engine switched off, it is possible
to continue to heat or ventilate the interior.
This feature makes use of the residual heat
produced by the engine.Activating
Switch off the ignition (page 336).
Press buttonT (page 453) up or
down.

Deactivating

iIf you switch on the residual heat function
when outside temperatures are high, only the
ventilation will be switched on.
iRegardless of the selected air volume, the
blower operates at low speed when heating. In
case of ventilation the blower operates at higher
speed.

Power tilt/sliding sunroof

With the sunroof closed or tilted open, a
screen can be slid into the roof opening to
help provide shade. When sliding the sun-
roof open, the screen will also retract.
Switch on the ignition (page 336).
To open, close, raise or lower, move the
switch to resistance point in the re-
quired direction1to4 until the
tilt/sliding sunroof has reached the de-
sired position.
Express-operation: To open, close,
raise or lower, move the switch past
the resistance point in the required
direction1to4 and release.
The tilt/sliding sunroof opens or closes
completely.
Stopping during Express-opening/
closing: Move the switch in any direc-
tion.
iYou can also open or close the tilt/sliding
sunroof using the SmartKey, see “Summer open-
ing feature” (
page 376) and “Convenience
closing feature” (
page 376). Depending on
current position, the tilt/sliding sunroof may
also open or close when the air recirculation
button, (
page 453) is pressed and held
for 2 seconds.
iIf PRE-SAFE® has been activated, the
tilt/sliding sunroof closes automatically until
only a small gap remains.
iWith the SmartKey in starter switch
position0 or removed from the starter switch,
the tilt/sliding sunroof can be operated
until you open the driver’s or passenger door
for up to approximately 5 minutes
iIf the movement of the tilt/sliding sunroof is
blocked during the closing procedure, the sun-
roof will stop and reopen slightly.

Power tilt/sliding sunroof
Synchronizing
The tilt/sliding sunroof must be synchro-
nized
after the tilt/sliding sunroof has been
closed manually (
page 638)
if the tilt/sliding sunroof can only be
opened with a jerking motion
after a malfunction
Switch on the ignition (page 336).
Press and hold the sunroof switch in
the direction of arrow3 until the
tilt/sliding sunroof is fully raised at the
rear.
Keep holding the sunroof switch in the
direction of arrow3 for approximately
1 second.
Check the Express-operation feature
(
page 467).
If the tilt/sliding sunroof opens com-
pletely, the sunroof is synchronized.
Otherwise repeat the above steps.!Do not open the tilt/sliding sunroof com-
pletely if it is not aligned. Otherwise you could
damage the tilt/sliding sunroof.

Useful features
Opening ashtray
Press mark on cover plate2 forward.
Removing ashtray insert
Push sliding button1 to the left.
The ashtray is disengaged and slides
out a short way.
Remove the insert from the ashtray
frame.
Reinstalling ashtray insert
Install the insert by pushing it back into
the frame until it engages.
Closing ashtray
Briefly press mark on cover plate2
forward.
Cigarette lighter

Open the cover plate (page 476).
Switch on the ignition (page 336).
Push in cigarette lighter1.
The lighter will pop out automatically
when hot.
Warning!G
Never touch the heating element or sides of
the lighter; they are extremely hot. Hold the
knob only.
Make sure that any children traveling with
you do not injure themselves or start a fire
with the hot cigarette lighter.
When leaving the vehicle, always remove the
SmartKey or SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO*
from the starter switch, take it with you, and
lock the vehicle. Do not leave children unat-
tended in the vehicle, or with access to an
unlocked vehicle. A child’s unsupervised ac-
cess to a vehicle could result in an accident
and/or serious personal injury.

Useful features
Shortly after the completion of your
Tele Aid acquaintance call, you will receive
a user ID and password. By visiting
www.mbusa.com and selecting “Tele Aid”
(USA only), you will have access to account
information, remote door unlock and
more.
System self-check
Initially, after switching on the ignition,
malfunctions are detected and indicated.
If a malfunction is detected, the indicator
lamps in the SOS button, the Roadside As-
sistance button• and the Information
button¡ stay on longer than
10 seconds or do not come on. The mes-
sage “Tele Aid not activated” or “Tele Aid
inoperative” appears in the multifunction
display.Emergency calls
An emergency call is initiated
automatically following an accident in
which the emergency tensioning devices
(ETDs) or air bags deploy.An emergency call can also be initiated
manually by opening the cover next to the
interior rear view mirror labeled SOS, then
briefly pressing the button located under
the cover. For instructions on initiating an
emergency call manually (page 485).
Once the emergency call is in progress, the
indicator lamp in the SOS button will begin
to flash. The message:
“Connecting call” appears in the multi-
function display
“Emergency Call Activated” appears in
the COMAND display
and the audio system is muted. When the
connection is established, the message:
“Call connected” appears in the multi-
function display
“Emergency Call Activated” appears in
the COMAND display
iThe SOS button is located above the interior
rear view mirror (

The Roadside Assistance button• and the
Information button¡ are located below the
center armrest cover (
page 485).
Warning!G
If the indicator lamps in the SOS button, in
the Roadside Assistance button•
and/or in the Information button¡ do
not come on during the system self-check,
or if any of these indicators remain illuminat-
ed continuously in red and/or the message
“Tele Aid not activated” or “Tele Aid inopera-
tive” is displayed in the multifunction display
after the system self-check, a malfunction in
the system has been detected.
If a malfunction is indicated as outlined
above, the system may not operate as ex-
pected. Have the system checked at the
nearest Mercedes-Benz Center as soon as
possible.
