Locking and unlocking
Valet locking
The lock is located next to the handle
above the rear license plate recess.

Close the trunk (page 97).
Pull the mechanical key out of the
SmartKey (
page 361).
Insert the mechanical key in the trunk
lid lock.
Turn the mechanical key clockwise to
position2 and remove the mechani-
cal key in that position to lock the
trunk.
The trunk remains locked even when the
vehicle is centrally unlocked.
Insert the mechanical key in the trunk
lid lock.
Turn the mechanical key counterclock-
wise to neutral position1 and remove
the mechanical key in that position to
unlock the trunk.
You can now open the trunk
(
page 96).
Automatic central locking
The doors and the trunk automatically lock
when the ignition is switched on and the
wheels are turning at vehicle speeds of
approximately 9 mph (15 km/h) or more.
You can open a locked door from the
inside. Open door only when conditions
are safe to do so.
You can deactivate the automatic locking
mode using the control system, see “Set-
ting automatic locking” (
page 143).
iTo deny any unauthorized person access to
the trunk, lock it separately with the mechanical
key. Leave only the SmartKey less its mechani-
cal key with the vehicle.
iYou can only cancel the separate trunk lock-
ing mode by means of the mechanical key.
iThe doors unlock automatically after an ac-
cident if the force of the impact exceeds a preset
threshold.
To prevent the vehicle door locks from locking,
deactivate the automatic central locking when
the vehicle
is pushed or towed
is on a test stand

Locking and unlocking from the inside
You can lock or unlock the doors and the
trunk from inside using the central locking
or unlocking switch. This can be useful, for
example, if you want to lock the vehicle
before starting to drive.
You cannot lock or unlock the fuel filler flap
with the central locking or unlocking
switch.The switches are located in the center
console.

Warning!G
When leaving the vehicle, always remove the
SmartKey from the starter switch, take it
with you, and lock the vehicle. Do not leave
children unattended in the vehicle, or with
access to an unlocked vehicle. A child’s
unsupervised access to a vehicle could
result in an accident and/or serious
personal injury.
iYou can open a locked door from the inside.
Open door only when conditions are safe to do
so.
If the vehicle was previously centrally locked us-
ing the SmartKey, it will not unlock using the cen-
tral unlocking switch2.
If the vehicle was previously locked with the cen-
tral locking switch1
while in the selective remote control mode,
only the door opened from the inside is un-
locked.
while in the global remote control mode, the
complete vehicle is unlocked when a door is
opened from the inside.

turned off could result in a discharged battery.

Trunk lamp
The trunk lamp switches on if the trunk is
opened.
If the trunk lid remains open, the trunk
lamp switches off automatically after
approximately 10 minutes.
iIf you turn the SmartKey in the starter
switch to position0 and switch off the exterior
headlamps, the door entry lamps will remain lit
for approximately 5 minutes.

Mount the roof rack only between the

Only use roof racks approved by
Mercedes-Benz for your vehicle model to
avoid damage to the vehicle.
Follow the manufacturer’s installation in-
structions. Otherwise, an improperly at-
tached roof rack system or its load could
become detached from the vehicle.
Do not exceed the maximum roof load of
220 lbs (100 kg).
Take into consideration that when the roof
rack is loaded, the handling characteristics
are different from those when operating the
vehicles without the roof rack loaded.
!Load the roof rack in such a way that the ve-
hicle cannot be damaged while driving.
Make sure
you can fully raise the tilt/sliding sunroof*.
you can fully open the trunk.
!Do not sit on or lean your body weight
against the armrest when it is folded down, as
you could otherwise damage it.

Removing the ski sack
You can remove the ski sack for cleaning
or drying.

Split rear bench seat*
To expand the cargo area, you can fold
down the left and right rear seat backrests.
The two sections can be folded down
separately.
Warning!G
Never drive vehicle with trunk open while
the ski sack is removed. Deadly carbon
monoxide (CO) gases may enter vehicle in-
terior, resulting in unconsciousness and
death.
iTo prevent unauthorized persons from ac-
cessing the trunk, always close the flap.
Warning!G
When expanding the luggage area, always
fold the seat cushions fully forward.
Unless you are transporting cargo, the
backrests must remain properly locked in
the upright position.
In an accident, during hard braking or
sudden maneuvers, loose items will be
thrown around inside the vehicle, and cause
injury to vehicle occupants unless the items
are securely fastened in the vehicle.
Always use the cargo tie down rings*
(
page 236).
