If your vehicle is equipped with a ªRain Sensitive Wiper
System,º and it is activated, the headlights will automati-
cally turn on after the wipers complete five wipe cycles
within approximately 1 minute, and they will turn off
approximately four minutes after the wipers completely
stop. Refer to ªWindshield Wipers and Washersº in this
section for more information.
NOTE:When your headlights come on during the
daytime, the instrument panel lights will automatically
dim to the lower nighttime intensity. Refer to ªInstru-
ment Panel and Interior Lightsº below for setting the
instrument panel lights to full daytime intensity.
SmartBeams Ð If Equipped
The SmartBeam system provides increased forward light-
ing at night by automating high beam control through
the use of a digital camera mounted on the inside
rearview mirror. This camera detects vehicle specific lightand automatically switches from high beams to low
beams until the approaching vehicle is out of view.
NOTE:If the windshield or SmartBeam mirror is re-
placed, the SmartBeam mirror must be re-aimed to
ensure proper performance. See your local authorized
dealer.
To Activate
1. Select ªAuto Headlamp Low/High Beams? Ð Low/
High Beam.º Refer to ªEVIC Ð Customer Programmable
Featuresº in Section 4 of this manual.
2. Turn the end of the multi-function control lever to the
A (Auto) headlight position.
NOTE:This system will not activate until the vehicle is
at or above 20 mph (32 km/h).

Headlamp Delay
When this feature is selected the driver can choose, when
exiting the vehicle, to have the headlamps remain on for
30, 60, or 90 seconds, or not remain on. Pressing the STEP
button when in this display will select 30, 60, 90, or OFF.
Illuminated Approach?
When this feature is selected the driver can choose, when
entering the vehicle, to have the headlamps come on for
30, 60, or 90 seconds, or not come on at all. Pressing the
STEP button when in this display will select 30, 60, 90, or
OFF.
Auto Headlamp Low/High Beams? (Available with
SmartBeam Only)
When this feature is selected and the headlight switch
has been moved to the A (Auto) position, the headlights
will automatically switch from high to low beams when
approaching a vehicle. Pressing the STEP button when inthis display will select ªLow Beamº or ªLow/High
Beam.º Refer to ªLights Ð SmartBeamsº in Section 3 of
this manual.
NOTE:System will activate at or above 20 mph (32
km/h).
Headlamps On With Wipers? (Available with Auto
Headlights Only)
When this feature is selected and the headlight switch
has at least once been moved to the A (Auto) position, the
headlights will turn on when the wipers are turned on.
The headlights will also turn off when the wipers are
turned off if they were turned on in this way. Pressing the
STEP button when in this display will select ªYesº or
ªNo.º
NOTE:Turning the headlights on during the daytime
causes the instrument panel lights to dim. To increase the
brightness, refer to ªLightsº in Section 3 of this manual.

CAUTION!
Do not touch the new bulb with your fingers. Oil
contamination will severely shorten bulb life. If the
bulb comes in contact with any oily surface, clean
the bulb with rubbing alcohol.
