B740B01FC
To use the air conditioning to cool the interior:
o Turn on the fan control switch.
o Turn on the air conditioning switch by pushing in on the switch. The air conditioning indicator light should come on at the same time.
o Set the air intake control to "Fresh" mode (
).
o Set the temperature control to "Cool". ("Cool" provides maximum cooling. The temperature may be moderated by moving the control toward"Warm".) o Adjust the fan control to the desired
speed. For greater cooling, turn thefan control to one of the higher speeds or temporarily select the "Recirculation" position on the airintake control. B740C01FC-GAT Dehumidified Heating
B740C01FC
For dehumidified heating:
o Turn on the fan control switch.
o Turn on the air conditioning switch. The air conditioning indicator lightshould come on at the same time.
o Set the air intake control to "Fresh" mode (
).
o Set the air flow control to the desired
position.
o Adjust the fan control to the desired
speed.
o For more rapid action, set the fan at one of the higher speeds.
o Adjust the temperature control to
provide the desired amount of warmth.

B740D01A-AAT Operation Tips
o If the interior of the car is hot whenyou first get in, open the windows for a few minutes to expel the hot air.
o When you are using the air condition-
ing system, keep all windows closedto keep hot air out.
o When moving slowly, as in heavy
traffic, shift to a lower gear. Thisincreases engine speed, which in turn increases the speed of the air conditioning compressor.
o On steep grades, turn the air condi- tioning off to avoid the possibility ofthe engine over-heating.
o During winter months or in periods when the air conditioning is not usedregularly, run the air conditioning onceevery month for a few minutes. This will help circulate the lubricants and keep your system in peak operatingcondition.

:ONFresh mode :
Air enters the vehicle from the outside and is heated or cooled according to the function selected.
HFC240-1
With the "Fresh" mode selected, air enters the vehicle from the outside andis heated or cooled according to the function selected. With the "Recirculation" mode selected, and air from within the passenger com- partment will be drawn through the heat-ing system and heated or cooled ac- cording to the function selected. NOTE:
o It should be noted that prolonged
operation of the heating system in "recirculation" mode will give rise to fogging of the windscreen andside windows and the air within the passenger compartment will become stale. In addition, pro-longed use of the air conditioning with the "Recirculation" mode se- lected may result in the air withinthe passenger compartment be- coming excessively dry. o When the ignition switch is turned
"ON" the air intake control will change to " " mode (regardless of switch position). This is normal operation. The air intake controloperates in "AUTO" mode when turning the ignition to the ON po- sition if the "AUTO" mode wasused before shutting off the en- gine.

C055B01B-GAT STARTING AND STOPPING THE ENGINE FOR TURBOCHARGER INTERCOOLER(DIESEL ENGINE)
(1) Do not race the engine or suddenly
accelerate the engine immediately after starting it. If the engine is cold, allow the engine to idle for several seconds before it is driven to ensure sufficient lubrication of the turbocharger unit.
(2) After high speed or extended driv-
ing, requiring a heavy engine load, the engine should be allowed to idle about 1 minute before turning it off. This idle time will allow the turbocharger to cool prior to shutting the engine off.
WARNING:
Do not turn the engine off immedi- ately after it has been subjected to a heavy load. Doing so may cause severe damage to the engine or turbocharger unit. SC060B1-E FUEL ECONOMY The following suggestions are made to assist in achieving the greatest degreeof fuel economy.
o Maintaining a constant check on fuel
consumption will enable the most economical use pattern and driving style to be adopted.
o Avoid using the vehicle for very short journeys if possible, particularly whena cold start is involved.
o Ensure that tyre pressures are main- tained at the correct level.
o Use only the recommended grade of fuel.
o Avoid carrying unnecessary weight,
and if a roof rack is in use, remove itas soon as possible after use.
o Anticipate the road and conditions
ahead to enable adjustments in speedto be made smoothly. Avoid heavy acceleration and sharp braking.
o Avoid cruising at unnecessary high speeds. o Always ensure that the periodic main-
tenance services are performed by a Hyundai authorised repairer at the time and/or mileage intervals speci- fied.
o Use the air conditioning only when necessary.

DRIVING YOUR HYUNDAI

o Remember, your car does not re- quire extended warm-up. As soon as the engine is running smoothly, you can drive away. In very cold weather, however, give your engine a slightlylonger warm-up period.
o Don't "lug" or "over-rev" the engine.
Lugging is driving too slowly in toohigh a gear resulting in the engine bucking. If this happens to you, shift to a lower gear.Over-revving is racing the engine beyond its safe limit. This can be avoided by shifting at the recom-mended speeds.
o Use your air conditioning sparingly.
The air conditioning system is oper-ated by the engine power so your fuel economy is reduced when you use it.SMOOTH CORNERING
SC160A1-F Avoid braking or gear changing in cor- ners, especially when roads are wet. Ideally, corners should always be taken under gentle acceleration. If you followthese suggestions, tyre wear will be held to a minimum.WINTER MOTORING
SC170A1-E The onset of winter conditions subject motor vehicles to greater operating de-mands. Therefore, the following sug- gestions will assist in maintaining peak performance and reliability during theseperiods: ZC170B1-E Electrical System Winter conditions impose severe de- mands upon vehicle electrical systems, particularly the charging circuit. The battery condition and performance along with the alternator performance and drive belt condition should be checkedprior to the onset of winter.
