(i.e revving the engine in neutral).
2) During the first 500 miles the maxi-
mum engine speed should be re- stricted to 3,000 rpm and gradually increased thereafter.
3) Avoid prolonged constant speed op- eration. The internal components ofthe engine will become more quickly run in if the operation speed is variedduring the running-in period.
4) Never allow the engine to labour. Use
the gearbox freely and avoid largethrottle openings when the engine speed is below 1,500 rpm.

o To help prevent theft, always re-
move the ignition key, close all windows, and lock all doors andhatchback door when leaving your vehicle unattended.
B040C01FC-GAT Locking From the Outside The doors can be locked without a key. To lock the doors from the outside, first push the inside lock switch to the"LOCK" position, so that the red mark on the switch is not visible, then close the door.The door will not lock if the key is left in the ignition switch when the front doors close. This is normal. (Not all models) NOTE:
o When locking the door this way,
be careful not to lock the door with the ignition key left in thevehicle.
HTB062-D SB040D1-F Locking from the Inside To lock the doors from inside, simply close the door and push the lock switchto the "LOCK" position. When this is done, the door cannot be opened using either the inside or theoutside door handle. NOTE: When the door is locked, the red mark on the switch is not visible andthe character "LOCK" on the switch is visible.

LOCK SB040F2-E CHILD-PROOF REAR DOOR LOCK The rear doors are fitted with child proof locks to prevent accidental opening of the doors using the inside door handle, whilst allowing access by means of the outside handle (such as is required in the event of an acccident for example) provided that the door lock button is at the unlocked position. Use of the child proof lock mechanism is recommended when children are carried in the vehicle. The front door windows may be opened or closed by turning the window regula- tor handle. Ensure that when the win-dows are closed, nothing may become trapped between the glass and the door frame. HTB064-D

The power windows operate when the ignition key is in the "ON" position. The main switches are located on the driver's armrest and control the front and rearwindows on both sides of the vehicle. The windows may be opened by de- pressing the appropriate window switchand closed by pulling up the switch. To open the window on the driver's side, press the switch(1) down. The windowmoves as long as the switch is oper- ated.
WARNING:
When opening or closing the win- dows, make sure your passenger's head, hair, arms and hands are safely out of the way.

The front seat rake adjustment is per- formed by raising the lever at the frontof the seat base and sliding the seat to the desired position. At this position the lever should be released and the seatrocked to and fro to ensure that the mechanism has locked.
WARNING:
Front seat adjustments must not be undertaken whilst the vehicle is inmotion. Loss of control of the ve- hicle may result if seat adjustments are made whilst the vehicle is inmotion. WARNING:
1) Be careful that someone's head, hands and body are not trappedby a closing window.
2) Never try to operate the main switch on the driver's door andthe individual door window switchin opposing directions at the same time. If this is done, the window will stop and cannot be opened orclosed.
3) Always remove the ignition key
prior to exiting the car.
4) Do not leave children alone in the car.

To ensure the seat is locked se- curely, attempt to move the seat for- ward or rearward without using thelever.
In order to prevent operation of the passenger front and rear windows, a window lock switch is provided on thearmrest of the driver's door. To disable the power windows, press the window lock switch.To revert to normal operation, press the window lock switch a second time. SB250A1-E HEATED REAR WINDOW To operate the heated rear window de- press the switch shown. The heated rear window will automatically turn offafter 20 minutes or when the ignition is turned off. The system may be turned off manuallyby depressing the switch again. HTB039CAUTION:
The inside of the rear windscreenshould never be cleaned with a hardor sharp implement since damage to the heating element may occur. The glass should only be cleaned with asoft cloth or chamois leather with the use only of a mild detergent or pro- prietary glass cleaner where neces-sary. Only horizontal movement of the cloth should be made when clean- ing the glass and care should beexercised to ensure that the heating elements are not damaged by rings or jewellery whilst the glass is beingcleaned. NOTE: The engine must be running for the heated rear window to operate.

If the mirror control is jammed withice, do not attempt to break it free using the control handle or by ma- nipulating the face of the mirror. Usean approved spray de-icer (not radia- tor antifreeze) to release the frozen mechanism or move the vehicle to awarm place and allow the ice to melt.

Before driving away, always check thatyour mirrors are positioned so you can see directly behind you. To adjust the position of either mirror:
1. Move the selecting switch to the "L"
(or "R") position to activate the ad- justable mechanism for the adjust-ing door mirror.
2. Now, adjust mirror angle by depress-
ing the appropriate perimeter switchas illustrated.

o Do not leave the switch on for an unnecessary length of time.
o Scraping ice from the mirror face could cause permanent damage. To remove any ice, use a sponge, soft cloth or approved deicer.

WARNING:
Be careful when judging the size or distance of any object seen in thepassenger side rear view mirror. It is a convex mirror with a curved sur- face, any objects seen in this mirrorare closer than they appear.
B510D01HP-EAT OUTSIDE REARVIEW MIRROR HEATER (Not all models) The outside rearview mirror heater is actuated in connection with the rear window defroster. To heat the outsiderearview mirror glass, push in the switch for the rear window defroster. The rear- view mirror glass will be heated fordefrosting or defogging and will give you improved rear vision in inclement weather conditions. Push the switchagain to turn the heater off. The outside rearview mirror heater automatically turns itself off after 20 minutes. HTB039
