G350A01A-GAT ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION Function of Engine Oil Engine oil has the primary function of lubricating and cooling the inside of the engine. Engine oil consumption It is normal that an engine should consume some engine oil while nor-mal driving. The cause of oil consump- tion in a normal engine are as follows;
o Engine oil is used to lubricate pis-
tons, piston rings and cylinders. A thin film of oil is left on the cylinderwall when a piston moves down- wards in the cylinder. High negative pressure generated during engineoperation sucks some of the oil into the combustion chamber. This oil with some oil of the cylinderwall is burned by the high tempera-
ture combustion gases during the combustion process.
o The engine oil consumption is strongly effected by the viscosityand quality of oil, engine rpm anddriving condition etc. The engine oil is more consumed under severe driving conditions such as highspeeds and frequent acceleration and deceleration than normal driv- ing condition.

NOTE:
o It is recommended that the engine oil and filter should be changed by an authorized Hyundai dealer.
o Always dispose of used engine oil in an environmentally acceptablemanner. It is suggested that it beplaced in a sealed container and taken to a service station for recla- mation. Do not pour the oil on theground or put it into the house- hold trash.
WARNING:
Used motor oil may cause irritation or cancer of the skin if left in contact with the skin for prolonged periods of time. Wash your hands thoroughlywith soap and warm water as soon as possible after handling used oil. G050A01TG-AAT CHECKING THE ENGINE COOL- ANT
WARNING:
Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. When the engine is hot, the engine coolant is underpressure and may erupt through the opening if the cap is removed. You could be seriously burned ifyou do not observe this precau- tion. Do not remove the radiator cap until the radiator is cool to thetouch.

NOTE: It is recommended that the engine coolant should be changed by an authorized Hyundai dealer.

WARNING:
It is always better to check the transaxle oil level when the engine is cool or cold. If the engine is hot, you should exercise great cautionto avoid burning yourself on hot engine or exhaust parts.!

Transaxle lubricant in the manual transaxle should be checked at those intervals specified in the vehicle main-tenance schedule in Section 5. Recommended Oil Use only HYUNDAI GENUINE PARTS MTF 75W/85 (API GL-4) in the manual transaxle. Manual Transaxle Oil Capacity The oil capacity of the manual transaxle is 2.15 liters for gasoline engine and 2.0 liters for diesel engine.
!WARNING:
o Windshield washer fluid agents contain some amounts of alcohol and can be flammable under cer- tain circumstances. Do not allow sparks or flame to contact thewasher fluid or the washer fluid reservoir. Damage to the vehicle or its occupants could occur.
o Windshield washer fluid is poi- sonous to humans and animals.Do not drink windshield washerfluid. Serious injury or death could occur. NOTE: It is recommended that the manual transaxle fluid should be checked by an authorized Hyundai dealer.

NOTE: Grinding noise from the power steering pump may be heard imme- diately after the engine is started inextremely cold conditions (below - 20°C). If the noise stops during warm up, there is no abnormal function inthe system. It is due to a power steering fluid characteristic in ex- tremely cold conditions. Recommended Fluid Use PSF-3 type fluid NOTE: Do not start the engine when the power steering oil reservoir is empty.G230A03A-GAT POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL The power steering fluid level should be checked regularly.To check the power steering fluid level, be sure the ignition is "OFF", then check to make certain that the powersteering fluid level is between the "MAX" and "MIN" level markings on the fluid reservoir. In addition it is recommended that when parking the vehicle on a gradient, the shift lever should be positioned in theappropriate low gear on manual transaxle vehicles or in the P (Park) position on automatic transaxle vehicles.
CAUTION:
Driving with the parking brake ap-plied will cause excessive brake pad (or lining) and brake rotor wear. Releasing the parking brake To release the parking brake, first apply the foot brake and pull up the parkingbrake lever slightly. Secondly, depress the release button and lower the parking brake lever whilst holding the button.
WARNING:
Whenever leaving or parking the ve-hicle, always apply the parking brakefully and engage the appropriate low gear (Park position for automatic transmission models). Failure toapply the parking brake correctly could result in the vehicle moving inadvertently.

The use of a proprietary stabiliser will assist in achieving an inherently stable outfit but whilst the use of such equip-ment will improve the characteristics of a balanced outfit, it will not compen- sate for a badly loaded and thereforeunstable outfit. The tyres and braking equipment fitted to the trailer or caravan must be main- tained in accordance with the recom- mendations of the manufacturer. Spe-cial attention should be paid to tyres which deteriorate through time and exposure rather than as a result of thedistances towed. The inside walls of the tyres should be inspected along with the outside walls for cracking anddamage. The trailer wheel nut torque must be checked on a regular basis, preferably before each towing ses-sion.

C190E01L C195F02TB-EAT TOWING ATTACHMENTS It is strongly recommended that only an Hyundai Approved towing attach-ment is used to ensure that the loads placed upon the body structure are correctly distributed. The use of a nonapproved attachment will result in the invalidation of the vehicle warranty. Hyundai towing attachments are de-signed and constructed to ensure maximum towing performance and ease of fitment. A range of accesso-ries including electrical kits are avail- able through the Hyundai authorised repairer network. It is of the utmost importance that those areas of the vehicle which aresubjected to greater stress during tow- ing are maintained in accordance with the recommendations given at the endof this book. In addition, the daily oper- ating checks relating to engine oil, transmission oil and tyres must beperformed at each refuelling to ensure maximum reliability and safety.

WARNING:
It is not recommended that the ve- hicle be used for towing until thefirst 1,000 miles of Running In has been completed. All Hyundai Getz models are suited to towing trailersand caravans up to the limits indi- cated on page 2-21. This models fitted with automatic transaxle havea transaxle oil cooler and further transaxle cooling should not be re- quired.

SE050E1-E WINDOWS A proprietary glass cleaner should be used to clean the inside of the win- dows. However, the rear heated wind- shield must only be cleaned using alight horizontal cleaning action. Care should be exercised to avoid the use of abrasive cleaners or contact with itemsof jewellery which may damage the heating elements.
SE050A1-E INTERIOR During the winter period, it is possible that the passenger compartment floor-ing may become wet from damp foot- wear or quantities of snow adhering to footwear. The carpet should not beallowed to remain in this condition since the carpet may begin to create musty smells and will promote corrosion ofthe floor pan in addition to the carpet and under felt beginning to rot. SE050C1-E INTERIOR VALETING The soft trim and carpets should be maintained with the regular use of a vacuum cleaner. Heavy soiling shouldbe removed with a dry cleaning agent recommended for this purpose follow- ing the instructions of the productmanufacturer. Paint thinner, solvents or other such cleaning materials should not be used since damage to the up-holstery may result. SE050D1-E SEAT BELTS Seat belts should be cleaned only with a mild soap solution. Strong deter-gents, solvents or bleaches may dam- age the belt webbing and therefore reduce the effectiveness of the belt.Belts which display signs of fraying, wear or cuts should be replaced.
YE010A1-E To Clean Leather Upholstery (Not all models) In the normal course of use, leather upholstered surfaces will, like any ma- terial, pick-up dust and dirt. This dustand dirt MUST be cleaned off or it may work into the surface of the leather, causing damage.Fine leather needs care. This care, as with all fine things, need not be elabo- rate, but should include cleaning whennecessary. Washing leather thoroughly with soap and water will keep your leather lustrous, beautiful and ensureyou have many years of wear. Take a piece of cheese cloth and using any mild soap and lukewarm water,work up a good lather. Thoroughly wash the leather. Wipe clean with a slightly damp cloth and dry with soft cloth. Dothis as often as the leather becomes soiled. During tanning operations, sufficientoils are incorporated through process- ing that none need be applied during the life of the leather. Oil applied to thefinished surface will in no way help the leather and may do more harm than good. Varnished and furniture polishesshould NEVER be used under any con- ditions.

5- 2 VEHICLE MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENTS
SF020A1-E MAINTENANCE AND SERVICING REQUIREMENTS To ensure the continued reliability and safety of the vehicle, certain routinemaintenance operations are required at specific mileage or time intervals. It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner to ensure that the maintenance schedules shown in both this OwnersManual and the Warranty and Service Passport are adhered to. The new vehicle warranty may be invalidated if the routine maintenance operations are not performed in line with the recommendations outlinedand the safety and durability of the vehicle adversely affected. It is recommended that all mainte- nance operations with the exception of the daily operating checks are en-trusted to a Hyundai authorised re- pairer to ensure that the latest repairer and maintenance procedures andspecialised servicing tools are em- ployed. In addition, the use of genuine Hyundai replacement parts will ensurethat the vehicle safety and perfor- mance will not be compromised. NOTE:
The inspection and testing of cer-
tain electronic fuel injection/engine management and automatic trans- mission control systems require specialised electronic equipmentspecifically designed for Hyundai vehicles. The use of general pur- pose electrical test equipment mayresult in damage to the control unit microprocessors.

Specified Scheduled Procedures
The Specified scheduled procedures
are listed in the maintenance charts beginning at page 5-3. The opera- tions specified must be performed at the time or mileage intervals shownirrespective of whether the mileage interval has been reached before the specified time interval. Certain lubricants and components
degrade with both time and mileage(e.g. engine oil and brake fluid) and therefore it is not permissable to base the maintenance schedule upon mile-age alone. It is strongly recommended that the maintenance operations are performed by the factory-trained ordistributor-trained technicians at your Hyundai authorised repairer becauseof the need for specialised knowledge and tooling and to ensure that no possibility of invalidating the manufac-turers warranty exists.
