TRANSMISSION HOT
Notice:If you drive your vehicle while the
transmission uid is overheating and the
transmission temperature warning is displayed
on the instrument panel cluster and/or DIC,
you can damage the transmission. This could
lead to costly repairs that would not be
covered by your warranty. Do not drive your
vehicle with overheated transmission uid
or while the transmission temperature warning
is displayed.
This message displays if the transmission uid
temperature becomes high.
When the transmission enters the protection
mode, you may notice a change in the
transmission shifting patterns. When the
transmission uid temperature returns to normal,
the display turns off and the transmission
shifting patterns return to normal.If the vehicle has the Tow/Haul mode, use this
feature if the transmission is operating at higher
temperatures and/or the following situations
exist, which can cause the transmission to operate
at higher temperatures:
Towing a trailer
Hot outside air temperatures
Hauling a large or heavy load
Over-loading
Low transmission uid level
High transmission uid level
Restricted air ow to the radiator and the
auxiliary transmission oil cooler, if your vehicle
has this feature
A temporary solution to hotter transmission
operating temperatures may be to let the
transmission cool down. If the transmission is
operated at higher temperatures on a frequent
basis, seeScheduled Maintenance on page 517
for the proper transmission maintenance intervals
for the transmission on your vehicle. Also see
Transmission Temperature Gage on page 213for
more information.

Adjusting the Speakers (Balance/Fade)
AUDIO:To adjust the balance between the
right and the left speakers, push and release the
AUDIO knob until BAL displays. Turn the knob
to move the sound toward the right or the
left speakers.
To adjust the fade between the front and the rear
speakers, push and release the AUDIO knob
until FADE displays. Turn the knob to move the
sound toward the front or the rear speakers.
To adjust the balance or fade to the middle
position while it is displayed, push the AUDIO
knob and hold it until the radio beeps once. The
balance or fade adjusts to the middle position.
To adjust all tone and speaker controls to
the middle position, push and hold the AUDIO
knob when no tone or speaker control displays.
ALL CENTERED displays, a beep sounds, and the
display level adjusts to the middle position.
Finding a Program Type (PTY) Station
(RDS and XM™)
To select and nd a desired PTY perform the
following:
1. Press the TYPE button to activate program
type select mode. TYPE and a PTY displays.
2. Turn the TYPE knob or press and release the
TYPE button to select a PTY.
3. Once the desired PTY displays, press and
release either the TYPE or the SEEK arrows
to select and to take you to the PTY’s rst
station.
4. To go to another station within that PTY,
press the TYPE button then press either
the TYPE button or the SEEK arrows once.
5. Press either the TYPE or the SEEK arrows
twice to exit program type select mode.
If the radio cannot nd the desired program type,
NONE displays and the radio returns to the
last station that was playing.

Setting the Tone
(Bass/Midrange/Treble)
AUDIO:Push and release the AUDIO knob until
BASS, MID (midrange), or TREB (treble)
displays. Turn the knob to increase or to decrease
the tone. The display shows the bass, midrange,
or treble level. If a station is weak or has
static, decrease the treble.
To adjust the bass, midrange, or treble to the
middle position while it is displayed, push and hold
the AUDIO knob. The radio beeps once and
adjusts the display level to the middle position.
To adjust all tone and speaker controls to
the middle position, push and hold the AUDIO
knob when no tone or speaker controls display.
ALL CENTERED displays and a beep sounds.
AUTO EQ (Automatic Equalization):Press this
button to select customized equalization settings
designed for custom or talk.
The radio saves separate AUTO EQ settings for
each preset and source.

Rocking Your Vehicle to Get It Out
First, turn the steering wheel left and right.
That will clear the area around the front wheels.
Your vehicle has a traction control system that
will activate when the system senses that
the wheels are spinning. SeeTraction Control
System (TCS) on page 309for more information.
Then, with the wheels straight ahead, shift
back and forth between REVERSE (R) and a
forward gear, spinning the wheels as little
as possible. Release the accelerator pedal while
you shift, and press lightly on the accelerator pedal
when the transmission is in gear. By slowly
spinning the wheels in the forward and reverse
directions, you will cause a rocking motion
that may free your vehicle. If that does not get
your vehicle out after a few tries, it may need to
be towed out. Or, you can use the recovery loops.
If your vehicle does need to be towed out, see
Towing Your Vehicle on page 369.
Recovery Loops
{CAUTION:
These loops, when used, are under a lot
of force. Keep people away from the
vicinity of the loops and any chains or
cables during use. Always pull the vehicle
straight out. Never pull on the loops at a
sideways angle. The loops could break off
and you or others could be injured from
the chain or cable snapping back.
Notice:Never use the recovery loops to tow
the vehicle. Your vehicle could be damaged
and it would not be covered by warranty.

Never use the front mounted receiver to tow
a trailer.
You can use the front mounted receiver to tow
your vehicle behind another. SeeRecreational
Vehicle Towing on page 369.
Power Winch Platform
You can use the power winch platform
(if equipped) with an aftermarket winch.
Connect the winch to the platform and wiring to
the vehicle following the winch manufacturer’s
guidelines.
Notice:Do not use the winch platform to
winch at a tension of more than 9,000 lbs.
(4 082 kg). This would damage your vehicle’s
frame. This damage would not be covered
by your vehicle’s warranty.If you are using a winch to pull out another
vehicle, follow the winch manufacturer’s guidelines
and observe the following to prevent damage to
your vehicle:
If possible, have your vehicle anchored from
the opposite side of the winch to a solid,
immovable object.
If winching from the front, use both of the rear
recovery loops. If winching from the rear,
use both of the front recovery loops.
Put your transmission in NEUTRAL (N).
Use your regular brakes to hold your vehicle
in place and block the wheels to keep the
vehicle from moving.
Notice:Using a power winch with the
transmission in gear to pull out another vehicle
may damage the transmission. When operating
a power winch, always leave the transmission
in NEUTRAL (N).

Steps for Determining Correct Load Limit
1. Locate the statement “The combined
weight of occupants and cargo should never
exceed XXX kg or XXX lbs” on your
vehicle’s placard.
2. Determine the combined weight of the driver
and passengers that will be riding in your
vehicle.
3. Subtract the combined weight of the driver
and passengers from XXX kg or XXX lbs.
4. The resulting gure equals the available
amount of cargo and luggage load capacity.
For example, if the “XXX” amount equals
1400 lbs and there will be ve 150 lb
passengers in your vehicle, the amount of
available cargo and luggage load capacity is
650 lbs (1400−750 (5 x 150) = 650 lbs).5. Determine the combined weight of luggage
and cargo being loaded on the vehicle. That
weight may not safely exceed the available
cargo and luggage load capacity calculated
in Step 4.
6. If your vehicle will be towing a trailer, the load
from your trailer will be transferred to your
vehicle. Consult this manual to determine how
this reduces the available cargo and luggage
load capacity of your vehicle.
