AIR BAG FAILURE
Turning the ignition key to MAR the warning
light on the dial turns on, but it should go off
after few seconds. The warning light stays on
glowing steadily (on certain versions together
with the message on the display) if there is a fail-
ure in the air bag system.

WARNING
WARNINGIf warning light ¬does not come on when turning the key to MAR or if it stays
on when travelling it could indicate a failure in restraint systems; in this case air
bags or pretensioners could not trigger in the event of an accident, or in a restrict-
ed numbers of cases they could trigger accidentally. Stop the car and contact Fiat
Dealership to have the system checked immediately.
The failure of the
¬warning light (warning light off) is also indicated by the
flashing for more than the normal seconds of the passenger’s front air bag deacti-
vated warning light
F(where required).

TWILIGHT SENSOR FAILURE
(where provided)
The warning light on the dial turns on (on certain
versions together with the message on the dis-
play) when failure is detected in twilight sensor
(adjusting headlight sensitivity).
è
INJECTION SYSTEM FAILURE
(Multijet versions)
In normal conditions, turning the ignition key to
MAR, the warning light turns on, but it should go
off when the engine has started. The initial turn-
ing on indicates that the warning light is working
properly.
If the warning light stays on or turns on while
travelling, this indicates that the injection system
is not working perfectly with possible lack of per-
formance, poor handling and high consumption.
In these conditions it is possible to continue dri-
ving without however requiring heavy effort or
high speed from the engine. In any case, contact
Fiat Dealership as soon as possible.U

EOBD - ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM
FAILURE (petrol versions)
In normal conditions, turning the ignition key to
MAR, the warning light turns on, but it should
go off when the engine has started. The initial
turning on indicates that the warning light is
working properly.
If the warning light stays on or turns on when
travelling (on certain versions together with the
message on the display):
❒glowing steadily - means a fault in the
supply/ignition system which could cause high
emissions at the exhaust, possible lack of
performance, poor handling and high con-
sumption levels.
In these conditions it is possible to continue dri-
ving without however requiring heavy effort or
high speed from the engine. Prolonged use of
the car with the warning light on may cause
damages. Contact Fiat Dealership as soon as
possible.
The warning light goes off if the fault disappears,
but it is still stored by the system.

also when a failure is detected in diesel fuel sen-
sor. Contact Fiat Dealership as soon as possible.

ENGINE STARTING
EMERGENCY START-UP
If the Fiat CODE cannot deactivate the engine
immobilising system, the
Yand Uwarning lights
stay on and the engine will not start.
To start the engine the emergency start-up can be
performed.
Read the whole procedure carefully before trying to
carry it out. If you make a mistake, you must turn the
ignition key back to STOP and repeat the whole
operation from beginning.
Proceed as follows:
❒Read the 5-figure electronic code given on the
CODE card;
❒Turn the ignition key to MAR;
❒Press and hold down the accelerator pedal. The
instrument panel warning light
Uwill come on for
about 8 seconds and then go out;
❒Release the accelerator pedal and get ready to
count the flashes of the
Uwarning light;
❒Count the number of flashes that corresponds to
the first figure of the code on the CODE card, then
press the accelerator pedal and keep it there until
the
Uwarning light comes on for four seconds
and then goes out; release the accelerator pedal;
❒The Uwarning light will start flashing again: after it
has flashed the number of times that corresponds
to the second figure on the CODE card, press the
accelerator pedal to the floor and keep it there;
❒Do the same for the remaining figures on the
CODE card;
❒Once the final figure has been entered, keep the
accelerator pedal pressed. The
Uwarning light
will light up for four seconds and then go out;
release the accelerator pedal;
❒Rapid flashing of the warning light U(for about 4
seconds) confirms the operation has been carried
out successfully;
❒Start the engine by turning the ignition key from
MAR to AVV.
If however the warning light
Ustays on, turn the
ignition key to STOP and repeat the procedure from
step one
IMPORTANT After an emergency start-up, you should
contact a Fiat Dealership otherwise you will have to
repeat the procedure described each time you want to
start the engine.

IF A FUSE BLOWS
GENERAL
The fuse is a protective device for the electric system: it comes into
action (i.e. it cuts off) mainly due to a fault or improper action on the
system.
If an electric device is not working, check the efficiency of its fuse. The
conductor element (A) must be intact; if not, replace the fuse with one of
the same amp rating (same colour).
(B): Undamaged fuse
(C): Fuse with broken filament.
Remove the blown fuse using the pincer (D) provided in the control box
on the dashboard.
Never replace a broken fuse with anything other than a new fuse.
WARNING
WARNINGIf a general fuse (MEGA-FUSE, MIDI-FUSE, MAXI-FUSE) cuts in, do not attempt
any repair and contact Fiat Dealership. Before changing a fuse, check the ignition
key has been removed and that all the other electric devices have been turned
off/disabled.
If the fuse blows again, have the car inspected at Fiat Dealership.
WARNINGNever change a fuse with another with a higher amp rating, DANGER OF FIRE.
