WARNING LIGHTS
AND MESSAGES
GENERAL INFORMATION
Turning on of warning light is ac-
companied by specific message and/or
by buzzer sound where provided by
instrument panel. These indications
are concise and cautionaryand
shall not be considered as exhaustive
and/or as an alternative to the speci-
fications contained in this Owner
Handbook which shall always be read
through carefully and thoroughly. In
case of failure indication always re-
fer to the specifications contained
in this section.
IMPORTANTFailure indications
displayed are divided into two cate-
gories: very serious and less seri-
ousfailures.
Very seriousfailures are indicated
by a warning “cycle” repeated until fail-
ure is eliminated.
Less seriousfailures are indicated
by a limited warning “cycle”.The warning cycle of both failure cat-
egories can be stopped by pressing
button MODE. The instrument pan-
el warning light will stay on until elim-
inating the fault.
LOW BRAKE
FLUID LEVEL (red)
HANDBRAKE ON
(red)
Turning the ignition key to MARthe
warning light turns on, but it should go
off after few seconds.
Low brake fluid level
The warning light turns on when the
level of the brake fluid in the reservoir
falls below the minimum level, due to
possible leak in the circuit.
x
On certain versions the dedicated
message is displayed.
If the warning light
x
turns on when travelling
(on certain versions to-
gether with the message on the
display) stop the vehicle immedi-
ately and contact Fiat Dealership.
Handbrake on
The warning light turns on when the
handbrake is on.
On certain versions, if the vehicle is
moving the buzzer will also sound.
IMPORTANTIf the warning light
turns on when travelling, check that
the handbrake is not engaged.
91GETTING TO KNOW YOUR VEHICLE
The cushion immediately inflates,
placing itself as a protection between
the body of the front occupants and
the structure that could cause injuries.
Immediately after, the cushion deflates.
The front air bag (driver and pas-
senger) is not a replacement of but
complementary to the use of belts,
which should always be worn, as spec-
ified by law in Europe and most non-
European countries.
In case of crash, a person not wear-
ing the seat belt moves forward and
may come into contact with the cush-
ion while it is still inflating. Under this
circumstance the protection offered
by the airbag is reduced.
Front airbags may not activate in the
following situations:
– in collisions against highly de-
formable objects not affecting the ve-
hicle front surface (e.g. bumper colli-
sion against guard rail); If the xbrake fluid low
warning light comes on,
stop the vehicle immedi-
ately and contact the nearest Fi-
at Dealership. Fluid leaks from
the hydraulic system, in fact, can
compromise brake system oper-
ation, both traditional systems
and systems with ABS.FRONT AND SIDE
AIRBAGS
The vehicle can be fitted with front
air bags for the driver and passenger
and with side bags.
FRONT AIRBAGS
Front airbags (driver and passenger)
have been designed to protect the oc-
cupants in the event of head-on crash-
es of medium-high severity, by plac-
ing the cushion between the occupant
and the steering wheel or dashboard.
Front airbags are designed to protect
vehicle’s occupants in front crashes
and therefore non-activation in other
types of collisions (side collisions, rear
shunts, roll-overs, etc.) is not a system
malfunction.
In case of crash, an electronic con-
trol unit, when required, triggers the
inflation of the cushion according to
the severity of the collision. Warning light >alone,
with the engine running,
normally indicates a fault
in the ABS system only. In this
case, the braking system is still ef-
ficient, though without the anti-
locking device. Under these con-
ditions, performance of the EBD
system may be reduced. Also in
this case, you are advised to go
immediately to the nearest Fiat
Dealership, driving in such a way
to avoid sharp braking to have
the system checked.
Put on the protection
gloves provided together
with quick tyre repair kit.
– Pull up the handbrake. Loosen
tyre inflation valve cap, take out the
filler hose A-fig. 16cand screw the
ring nut B-fig. 16con the tyre valve; The compressor shall
not be operated for more
than 20 minutes. Risk of
overheating!. Tyres repaired with
the quick tyre repair kit shall be
used temporarily only.
127IN AN EMERGENCY
Repairs are not possible
in case of damages on the
wheel rim (bad groove
distortion causing air loss). Do
not remove foreign bodies
(screws or nails) from the tyre.
IT SHOULD BE NOTICED
THAT:
The sealing fluid of the quick tyre re-
pair kit is effective with external tem-
peratures between -20 °C and +50
°C.
The sealing fluid has limited life. The cylinder contains
ethylene glycol. The cylin-
der contains latex: it can
cause allergic reactions. It is
harmful if ingested or inhaled and
irritant for the eyes and in case of
contact. In case of contact rinse
immediately with water and take
off contaminated clothes. If swal-
lowed, do not induce vomit, rinse
out the mouth, drink a lot of wa-
ter and call the doctor immedi-
ately. Keep away from children.
This product must not be used by
asthmatics. Do not inhale
vapours. Call the doctor imme-
diately in case of allergic reac-
tions. Keep the cylinder in the
space provided for the purpose
and far from heat. The sealing flu-
id has limited life.Replace the cylinder if
sealer has run out. Do not
throw away the cylinder
and the sealing fluid. Have the
sealing fluid and the cylinder dis-
posed of in compliance with na-
tional and local regulations.
INFLATING PROCEDURE
If the pressure falls be-
low 1.8 bars, do not dri-
ve any further: the quick
tyre repair kit Fix & Go auto-
matic cannot guarantee proper
hold because the tyre is too
much damaged. Contact Fiat
Dealership.
– if at least 1.8 bar pressure is read,
restore proper pressure (with engine
running and handbrake on) and
restart;
– drive with the utmost care to the
nearest Fiat Dealership.
129IN AN EMERGENCY
– after driving for about 10 minutes
stop and check again the tyre pres-
sure; pull up the handbrake; It is of vital importance
to communicate that the
tyre has been repaired us-
ing the quick tyre repair kit. Hand
the instruction brochure to the
personnel charged with treating
the tyre repaired with the kit.
FOR CHECKING AND
RESTORING PRESSURE
ONLY
The compressor can be also used
just for restoring pressure. Disconnect
the quick connection and connect it
directly to the tyre valve; in this way
the cylinder is not connected to com-
pressor and the sealing fluid will not
flow into the tyre. CYLINDER REPLACEMENT
PROCEDURE
To replace the cylinder proceed as
follows fig. 16h:
– disconnect connectionA; turn
counter-clockwise the cylinder to re-
place and raise it; fit the new cylinder
and turn it clockwise; connect con-
nection Ato the cylinder and fit the
transparent tube Binto the proper
space.
