Changing a Flat Tire
If you have an STS-V model, there is no spare tire
and no tire changing equipment. Your vehicle is
equipped with run-at tires. SeeRun-Flat
Tires (STS-V) on page 429for more information. If
you have an STS model, your vehicle may be
equipped with a tire inator kit. SeeTire Inator Kit
on page 452for more information. If your vehicle
is not equipped with a tire inator kit, follow
the directions for changing a at tire in this section.
If a tire goes at, avoid further tire and wheel
damage by driving slowly to a level place. Turn on
your vehicle’s hazard warning ashers. See
Hazard Warning Flashers on page 180for more
information.{CAUTION:
Changing a tire can be dangerous. The
vehicle can slip off the jack and roll over
or fall on you or other people. You and
they could be badly injured or even killed.
Find a level place to change your tire. To
help prevent the vehicle from moving:
1. Set the parking brake rmly.
2. Put the shift lever in PARK (P).
3. Turn off the engine and do not restart
while the vehicle is raised.
4. Do not allow passengers to remain in
the vehicle.
To be even more certain the vehicle will
not move, you should put blocks at the
front and rear of the tire farthest away
from the one being changed. That would
be the tire, on the other side, at the
opposite end of the vehicle.

{CAUTION:
Incorrect wheel nuts or improperly
tightened wheel nuts can cause the wheel
to come loose and even come off. This
could lead to an accident. Be sure to use
the correct wheel nuts. If you have to
replace them, be sure to get new GM
original equipment wheel nuts. Stop
somewhere as soon as you can and have
the nuts tightened with a torque wrench to
the proper torque specication. See
Capacities and Specifications on page 498
for wheel nut torque specication.
Notice:Improperly tightened wheel nuts can
lead to brake pulsation and rotor damage.
To avoid expensive brake repairs, evenly
tighten the wheel nuts in the proper sequence
and to the proper torque specication. See
Capacities and Specifications on page 498for

Notice:Wheel covers will not t on your
compact spare. If you try to put a wheel cover
on the compact spare, you could damage
the cover or the spare.
Do not try to put a wheel cover on your compact
spare tire. It will not t. Store the wheel cover
in the trunk until you have the at tire repaired or
replaced.

The underhood fuse block is located in the front of
the engine compartment on the passenger’s

on location and removal procedure for the front
compartment underhood sights shields.
To access the fuses, push in the tabs located on
each side of the fuse block cover, then lift the
cover off.
