Place it in a highly visible location such as the
inside of the upper left corner of the
windshield or to the face of the radio/clock.
The maximum speed label reminds you
to drive cautiously and not to exceed 55 mph
(90 km/h) until you have the damaged tire
inspected and repaired.
{CAUTION:
Storing the tire in ator kit or other
equipment in the passenger compartment
of the vehicle could cause injury. In a
sudden stop or collision, loose equipment
could strike someone. Store the tire
in ator kit in the proper place.
17. Return the equipment to the proper storage
location in the trunk of your vehicle. You may
need to loosen the retention strap to wrap
it around the in ator kit and foam container. To
do this, pull apart the strap and loosen the
strap at the quick release buckle. Then snap
the buckle together, pull the strap tight,
and secure the loose end of the strap by
mating the ends.

18. Immediately drive the vehicle 5 miles (8 km)
to distribute the sealant evenly in the tire.
Stop at a safe location and check the
tire pressure, refer to Steps 1 through 8 under
“Using the Air Compressor without Sealant”
next in this section. If the tire pressure
has fallen more then 10 psi (68 kPa), below
the recommended in ation pressure, stop
driving the vehicle. The tire is too damaged for
the sealant to work. SeeRoadside Service
on page 531.
If the tire pressure has not dropped more than
10 psi (68 kPa) from the recommended
in ation pressure, you can in ate the tire back
up to the recommended in ation pressure.
19. Dispose of the sealant canister at a local GM
dealer or in accordance with your local state
codes and practices.
After using the sealant canister, replace it with
a new canister from a GM dealer.
20. After temporarily repairing a tire with the
emergency at tire repair kit, take your
vehicle to an authorized GM dealer to have
the tire inspected and repaired.Using the Air Compressor without
Sealant
To use the air compressor by itself to in ate a tire,
do the following:
1. Remove the air compressor accessory plug
from the air compressor.
2. Unlock the air compressor hose from the
sealant canister by pulling up on the lever.
3. Pull the air compressor in ator hose from the
sealant canister.

9. In ate the tire up to the recommended
in ation pressure using the air pressure gage
on the top of the unit.
10. Turn off the air compressor by moving the
switch to the O (off) position.

11. Disconnect the compressor in ator hose and
wrap the hose in the bottom of the in ator kit.
12. Place the equipment in the original location in
the trunk of your vehicle.
Removal and Installation of the Sealant
Canister
To remove the sealant canister, do the following:
1. Unlock the air compressor in ator hose from
the sealant canister by pulling the lever up.
2. Disconnect the air compressor in ator hose
from the sealant canister.
3. Unwrap the sealant lling hose from the
compressor.

4. Turn the sealant canister so the in ator lling
hose is aligned with the slot in the
compressor.
5. Lift the sealant canister from the compressor
and replace with a new sealant canister. See
your GM dealer for more information.To install a new sealant canister, do the following:
1. Align the sealant lling hose with the slot in
the air compressor.
2. Push the sealant canister down and turn it
clockwise.
3. Wrap the sealant lling hose around the air
compressor channel to stow it in its original
location.
4. Push the air compressor in ator hose onto the
sealant canister inlet and push the lever down.

Changing a Flat Tire
If you have an STS-V model, there is no spare tire
and no tire changing equipment. Your vehicle is
equipped with run- at tires. SeeRun-Flat
Tires (STS-V) on page 429for more information. If
you have an STS model, your vehicle may be
equipped with a tire in ator kit. SeeTire In ator Kit
on page 452for more information. If your vehicle
is not equipped with a tire in ator kit, follow
the directions for changing a at tire in this section.
If a tire goes at, avoid further tire and wheel
damage by driving slowly to a level place. Turn on
your vehicle’s hazard warning ashers. See
Hazard Warning Flashers on page 180for more
information.{CAUTION:
Changing a tire can be dangerous. The
vehicle can slip off the jack and roll over
or fall on you or other people. You and
they could be badly injured or even killed.
Find a level place to change your tire. To
help prevent the vehicle from moving:
1. Set the parking brake rmly.
2. Put the shift lever in PARK (P).
3. Turn off the engine and do not restart
while the vehicle is raised.
4. Do not allow passengers to remain in
the vehicle.
To be even more certain the vehicle will
not move, you should put blocks at the
front and rear of the tire farthest away
from the one being changed. That would
be the tire, on the other side, at the
opposite end of the vehicle.

of wheel blocks.
The following information will tell you next how to
use the jack and change a tire.Removing the Spare Tire and Tools
The equipment you will need is located in the
trunk. To gain access to the compact spare tire
and jacking equipment, do the following:
1. Open the trunk. SeeTrunk on page 101for
more information.
2. Remove the compact spare tire cover.
3. Turn the nut holding the jack package
container counterclockwise and remove
it. Then remove the jack and wheel wrench.

rocker molding and attempt to raise the
vehicle, you could break the molding and/or
cause other damage to your vehicle. Always
position the jack so that when the jack head is

inboard from the rocker molding.
4. Turn the wheel wrench counterclockwise to
lower the jack lift head until the jack ts
under the vehicle.

5. Raise the jack by turning the wheel wrench
clockwise until the slots in the jack head t
into the metal ange located behind the
triangle on the plastic molding as shown.
6. Put the compact spare tire near you.7. Raise the vehicle by turning the wheel wrench

the ground for the compact spare tire to
t under the vehicle.
