Adjust the spring preload as follows.
1. Loosen the locknut.
2. Turn the adjusting nut in direction ato
increase the spring preload and in direction
bto decrease the spring preload.
3. The length of the spring (installed)
changes 1.5 mm per turn of the adjusting
nut.
NOTE:
A special wrench can be obtained at a Yamaha
dealer to make this adjustment.
4. Tighten the locknut to the specified torque.Measurement A:
Installed length:
Minimum (hard): 246.5 mm
Standard: 255 mm
Maximum (soft): 261.5 mm

Always tighten the locknut against the
adjusting nut, and then tighten it to the spec-
ified torque.
8. Place the air filter case in the original posi-
tion, connect the air intake duct, and then
tighten the clamp screw at the carburetor
side.
9. Install the bolts, and then connect the
hose.
10. Install the seat.Measurement A:

Parking brake adjustment
Parking brake adjustment may be required if the
parking brake does not hold properly. The cable
length Ashould be adjusted to 47–51 mm.
1. Loosen the locknut and the adjusting nut
on the brake cable below the fuel tank.
2. Fully loosen the locknut and the adjusting
bolt at the rear brake caliper.
3. Turn the adjusting nut on the brake cable
in direction ato increase the cable length
or in direction bto decrease the cable
length.
NOTE:
If the cable cannot be adjusted to specification,
consult a Yamaha dealer.
4. Tighten the locknut on the brake cable.

Adjusting the drive chain slack
1. Loosen the rear axle pinch bolts.
2. Insert a rod of a diameter of 8 mm and a
length of 10 cm into one of the holes in the
drive chain tensioner as shown.
3. Shift the transmission into the neutral posi-
tion.
4. To loosen the drive chain, push the ATV
forward, and to tighten the drive chain,
push the ATV backward.

Improper drive chain slack will overload the
engine as well as other vital parts of the ATV
and can lead to chain slippage or breakage.
To prevent this from occurring, keep the
drive chain slack within the specified limits.
