G020A01HP-GAT
Engine Compartment
The following should be checked regu- larly:
o Engine oil level and condition
o Transmission fluid level and condi- tion
o Brake fluid level
o Clutch fluid level
o Engine coolant level
o Windshield washer fluid level
o Accessory drive belt condition
o Engine coolant hose condition

14CHANGING THE AIR CLEANER FILTER
!
6. Start the engine, top off the radiator
with water and then add coolant to the reservoir until the level is be- tween "LOW" and "FULL".
7. Replace the radiator and reservoir caps and check to be sure the draincocks are fully closed and not leak- ing.
WARNING:
The cooling fan is controlled byengine coolant temperature and may sometimes operate even when the engine is not running. Use extremecaution when working near the blades of the coolant fan so that you are not injured by a rotating fanblade. As the engine coolant tem- perature decreases, the fan will au- tomatically shut off. This is a nor-mal condition. G070A03Y-AAT The replacement of air cleaner filter is
performed in the following manner.
1. Unsnap the clips around the cover.
2. When this is done, the cover can be lifted off, the old filter removed and the new filter put in its place.
Genuine Hyundai replacement parts
are recommended. HHP5013
!
CAUTION:
o Operating your vehicle without a proper air cleaner filter in place can result in excessive engine wear.
o When removing the air cleaner filter, be careful that dust or dirtdoes not enter the air intake. These may result in damage to the air cleaner filter.

When the air conditioning is being used regularly, the compressor drive belt tension should be checked at least once a month. To check the drive belt tension, pressdown on the belt halfway between theengine crankshaft and compressor pulleys. Pressing with your finger, you should not be able to deflect this beltanymore than 8.0 mm. If you have the instruments to check it with a force of 98N (22 lb.), the deflectionshould be approx. 8.0 mm (0.315 inches). If the belt is too loose, have it adjusted by your Hyundai dealer. CHANGING THE CLIMATE CONTROL AIR FILTER
B145A03HP-GAT
(For Evaporator and Blower Unit)(If Installed)
The climate control air filter is located in front of the evaporator unit behind the glove box. It helps to decrease the amount of pollutants entering the car.
1. Open the glove box and take out the damper strap from the hole. HHP2152
NOTE: The compressor drive belt tension
for diesel engine (2.9 CRDi only) is adjusted automatically.

5. Replace the two filters.
6. Installation is the reverse order of
disassembly. HHP2156
CHECKING THE FREE- PLAY
G150A01A-GAT
Steering Wheel
To check the steering wheel free-play,
stop the car with the wheels pointed straight ahead and gently move the steering wheel back and forth. Use very light finger pressure and be sen-sitive to changes in resistance that mark the limits of the free-play. If the free-play is greater than specified, haveit inspected by your Hyundai dealer and adjusted or repaired if necessary. G160A01A-GAT
Clutch Pedal
With the engine off, press lightly on the clutch pedal until you feel a changein resistance. This is the clutch pedal free-play. The free-play should be within the limits specified in the illus-tration. If it is not, have it inspected by your Hyundai dealer and adjusted or repaired if necessary.
Maximum 30 mm (1.18 in)
6 ~ 13 mm(0.24 ~ 0.51 in.)

To check the power steering fluid level, be sure the ignition is "OFF", thencheck to make certain that the power steering fluid level is between the "MAX" and "MIN" level markings onthe fluid reservoir. NOTE: Grinding noise from the power steer- ing pump may be heard immedi- ately after the engine is started inextremely cold conditions (below - 20°C). If the noise stops during warm up, there is no abnormal function inthe system. If is due to a power steering fluid characteristic in ex- tremely cold conditions. Recommended Fluid Use PSF-3 type fluid. NOTE: Do not start the engine when the power steering oil reservoir is empty.
FUEL FILTER
G240A01A-AAT
POWER STEERING HOSES
It is suggested that you check the
power steering hose connections for fluid leakage at regular intervals. The power steering hoses should be re-placed if there is severe surface crack- ing, pulling, scuffing or worn spots. Deterioration of the hose could causepremature failure. G350A02HP-GAT
Bleeding the Fuel System (For Diesel Engine (2.5 TCI))
The fuel system should be bled to
remove air as described in the illus- tration if the fuel supply is exhausted during travel, when the fuel filter isreplaced, or if the vehicle is not used for a long time.
1. Loosen the air bleed bolt at the upper part of the fuel filter with a flat-head screwdriver or equivalent. G350A01HP
