verter or any other part of theexhaust system while the cata- lytic converter is hot. Shut off the engine, wait for at least onehour before touching the cata- lytic converter or any other part of the exhaust system.
o Remember that your Hyundai
dealer is your best source ofassistance.
o Do not stop your Hyundai over any combustible material suchas grass, paper, leaves or rags. These materials might contact the hot catalytic converter and afire might result.

CAUTION:
The vehicle warranty will not extend to damage arising from the use ofincorrect fuels.
To prevent accidental filling of the fueltank with leaded fuel, a small diameterfiller neck along with a restrictor flap are fitted to ensure that only unleaded fuel pump nozzles may enter the filler neck.However, care must be exercised when refuelling the vehicle tank from fuel can or by means of a funnel that the fuelbeing used is unleaded. The use of leaded fuel in this vehicle will result in irreversible pollution of thecatalyst element. Such pollution will prevent correct operation of the cata- lyst and give rise to increased operatingtemperatures leading to the catalyst element melting and restricting the ex- haust flow along with an increase inexhaust emission levels.
DIESEL ENGINES Diesel fuel of 52 to 54 cetane is the correct rating to use in your HyundaiTerracan. If two types of diesel fuel are available, use summer or winter fuel properly according to the following tem-perature conditions.
o Above 23°F (-5°C) ... Summer type
diesel fuel.
o Below 23°F (-5°C) ... Winter type diesel fuel.
Watch the fuel gauge (page 47 number4) very carefully: If the engine stops due to fuel failure, the circuits must becompletely purged to permit restarting.FUEL RECOMMENDATIONS
B010A02HP-EAT PETROL ENGINES THIS VEHICLE MUST ONLY BE OP- ERATED WITH UNLEADED FUEL. SERIOUS DAMAGE WILL RESULTFROM THE USE OF LEADED FUEL. For the optimal vehicle performance, we recommend you to use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of RON(Research Octane Number) 95 /AKI (Anti Knock Index) 91 or higher. You may use unleaded gasoline with anoctane rating of RON 91~94/AKI 87~90 but it may result in slight performance reduction of the vehicle.

CAUTION:
Do not let any petrol or water enter the tank. If this happens, the tank should be completely drained andthe fuel lines should all be cleaned out. This will stop the fuel pump from becoming contaminated.

If electrolyte gets on your skin, thoroughly wash the contacted area. If you feel a pain or a burn- ing sensation, get medical attention immediately. Wear eye protection when charging or working near a battery. Always provide ventilation when working in an en- closed space.
o When lifting a plastic-cased bat- tery, excessive pressure on the case may cause battery acid toleak, resulting in personal injury. Lift with a battery carrier or with your hands on opposite corners.
o Never attempt to charge the bat- tery when the battery cables areconnected.
o The electrical ignition system works with high voltage.Never touch these componentswith the engine running or theignition switched on.o If battery electrolyte is spilled onto skin or into eyes, the effected area must be flushed with copious amounts of water and medical as- sistance sought.
o If battery electrolyte is ingested, copious amounts of water or milkfollowed by an antacid (raw egg ormilk of magnesia) must be drunk. Vomiting should not be induced and medical assistance must besought.
o Batteries must only be charged in well ventilated areas from which naked lights or sources of sparks are excluded.
o Ensure that children, pets or other unauthorised persons are kept awayfrom batteries.
o Do not allow anything to bridge the
positive (+) and negative (-) termi-nals of the battery.
o Never invert the battery.
The battery fitted during production isof the "Maintenance Free" type.
!WARNING: Always read the following instructions carefully whenhandling a battery. Keep lighted cigarettes and all other flames or sparks away from the battery. Hydrogen, which is a highly combustible gas, is always present in battery cells and may explode if ignited. Keep batteries out of the reach of children because batteries contain highly cor- rosive SULPHURIC ACID.Do not allow battery acid to contact your skin, eyes, clothing or paint finish.If any electrolyte gets intoyour eyes, flush your eyeswith clean water for at least 15 minutes and get imme- diate medical attention. Ifpossible, continue to apply water with a sponge or cloth until medical atten-tion is received.

- For a Petrol Engine Exhaust gases passing through the catalytic converter cause it to operate at very high temperatures. As a re- sult, the introduction of large amountsof unburned petrol may cause it to overheat and create a fire hazard. This can be avoided by observing thefollowing: H020D01HP-GAT
