C160G01A-GATTo Keep Locks from FreezingTo keep the locks from freezing, squirt an
approved de-icer fluid or glycerine into the
key opening. If a lock is covered with ice,
squirt it with an approved de-icing fluid to
remove the ice. If the lock is frozen inter-
nally, you may be able to thaw it out by
using a heated key. Handle the heated key
with care to avoid injury.NOTE:The proper temperature for using the
immobilizer key is from -40°F (-40°C) to
176°F (80°C). If you heat the immobilizer
key over 176°F (80°C) to open the frozen
lock, it may cause damage to the tran-
sponder in its head.
C160F01A-AATCheck Spark Plugs and Ignition
SystemInspect your spark plugs as described in
Section 6 and replace them if necessary.
Also check all ignition wiring and compo-
nents to be sure they are not cracked, worn
or damaged in any way.C160E01A-AATChange to "Winter Weight" Oil if
NecessaryIn some climates it is recommended that a
lower viscosity "winter weight" oil be used
during cold weather. See Section 9 for
recommendations. If you aren't sure what
weight oil you should use, consult your
Hyundai dealer.
C160H02A-AATUse Approved Window Washer Anti-
Freeze in SystemTo keep the water in the window washer
system from freezing, add an approved
window washer anti-freeze solution in
accordance with instructions on the con-
tainer. Window washer anti-freeze is avail-
able from Hyundai dealers and most auto
parts outlets. Do not use engine coolant or
other types of anti-freeze as these may
damage the paint finish.C160I01L-AATDon't Let Your Parking Brake FreezeUnder some conditions your parking brake
can freeze in the engaged position. This
is most likely to happen when there is an
accumulation of snow or ice around or
near the rear brakes or if the brakes are
wet. If there is a risk the parking brake may
freeze, apply it only temporarily while you
put the gear selector lever in "P" and block
the rear wheels so the car cannot roll. Then
release the parking brake.

ing "Park" mechanism operation

If you notice anything that does not operate
correctly or appears to be functioning cor-
rectly, inspect it carefully and seek assis-
tance from your Hyundai dealer if service
is needed.

FILLING THE WASHER

The washer fluid reservoir supplies fluid to
the windshield washer system.
A good quality washer fluid should be
used to fill the washer reservoir. The fluid
level should be checked more frequently
during bad weather or whenever the
washer system is in more frequent use.
The capacity of the washer reservoir is 3.2
U.S. quarts (4.0 liters).

1. Turn the ignition switch "ON" and place
the windshield wiper switch to the "LO"
position. Turn the ignition switch "OFF"
when the windshield wiper is in the fully
up position. The windshield wiper will
stop as illustrated.
2. Replace the wiper blade as described
in the section of the driver's side re-
placement.NOTE:Remove any dirt or ice on the windshield
before turning on the wipers. Damage to
the wiper blade rubber and windshield
could occur.

3. Replace with a new wiper blade.
Alternatively, you can replace the wind-
shield wiper blade as follows.

G110A01E-AATTransaxle fluid in the automatic transaxle
should be checked at those intervals speci-
fied in the vehicle maintenance schedule
in Section 5.NOTE:Automatic transaxle fluid is basically
red in color. As driving distance in-
creases, the fluid color turns darkish red
gradually. It is a normal condition and
you should not judge the need to replace
based upon the changing color.
You must replace the automatic
transaxle fluid in accordance with inter-
vals specified in the vehicle maintenance
schedule in section 5.

Your Hyundai automatic transaxle is spe-
cially designed to operate with HYUNDAI
GENUINE ATF SP III, DIAMOND ATF SP III,
SK ATF SP III or other brands meeting the
SP III specification approved by Hyundai
Motor Co.. Damage caused by a
nonspecified fluid is not covered by your
new vehicle limited warranty.
CAUTION:
Use of aftermarket ATF additives may
cause damage to the automatic
transaxle.
Only use HYUNDAI GENUINE ATF SP III,
DIAMOND ATF SP III, SK ATF SP III or
other brands meeting the SP III specifi-
cation approved by Hyundai Motor Co..
If you are having your vehicle serviced
at a facility other than a Hyundai dealer,
verify that the correct ATF is used for
your vehicle.
CAUTION:
o Radiator antifreeze (engine coolant)
should not be used in the washer sys-
tem because it will damage the car's
finish.
o The washer lever should not be pulled
and the washer should not be oper-
ated if the washer reservoir is empty.
This can damage the washer fluid
pump.

WARNING:
o Windshield washer fluid agents con-
tain some amounts of alcohol and can
be flammable under certain circum-
stances. Do not allow sparks or flame
to contact the washer fluid or the
washer fluid reservoir. Damage to
the vehicle or its occupants could
occur.
o Windshield washer fluid is poisonous
to humans and animals. Do not drink
windshield washer fluid. Serious in-
jury or death could occur.
