them in sequential order. Thieves can easily figure out these types of
codes.
Your personal code does not replace the permanent code that your
authorized dealer gave you. You can use either code to unlock your
vehicle. If a second personal code is entered, the module will erase the
first personal code in favor of the new code.
If you wish to erase your personal code, use the following instructions:

SECURILOCKPASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM
SecuriLockpassive anti-theft system is an engine immobilization
system. This system is designed to help prevent the engine from being
started unless acoded key programmed to your vehicleis used.
The SecuriLockpassive anti-theft system is not compatible with
non-Ford aftermarket remote start systems. Use of these systems may
result in vehicle starting problems and a loss of security protection.
THEFT INDICATOR
The theft indicator is the flashing red indicator located on the dash
panel.
•When the ignition is in the 1 (OFF/LOCK) position, the indicator will
flash once every 2 seconds to indicate the SecuriLocksystem is
functioning as a theft deterrent.
•When the ignition is in the 3 (ON) position, the indicator will glow for
3 seconds to indicate normal system functionality.
If a problem occurs with the SecuriLocksystem, the indicator will flash
rapidly or glow steadily when the ignition is in the 3 (ON) position. If
this occurs, the vehicle should be taken to an authorized dealer for
service.

Children 12 years old and under should always be properly restrained in
the second or third row seats. The Safety Canopywill not interfere
with children restrained using a properly installed child or booster seat
because it is designed to inflate downward from the headliner above the
doors along the side window opening.
The Safety Canopysystem is designed to activate when the vehicle
sustains lateral deceleration sufficient to cause the side crash sensor to
close an electrical circuit that initiates Safety Canopyinflation or when
a certain likelihood of a rollover event is detected by the rollover sensor.
The Safety Canopyis mounted to roof side-rail sheet metal, behind the
headliner, above the first and second row seats. In certain lateral collisions or
rollover events, the Safety Canopysystem will be activated, regardless of
which seats are occupied. The Safety Canopyis designed to inflate
between the side window area and occupants to further enhance protection
provided in side impact collisions and rollover events.
The fact that the Safety Canopydid not activate in a collision does not
mean that something is wrong with the system. Rather, it means the forces
were not of the type sufficient to cause activation. The Safety Canopyis
designed to inflate in certain side impact collisions or rollover events, not in
rear impact, frontal or near-frontal collisions, unless the collision causes
sufficient lateral deceleration or rollover likelihood.
Several Safety Canopy
system components get hot
after inflation. Do not touch them
after inflation.
If the Safety Canopysystem has deployed, the Safety
Canopywill not function again unless replaced. The
Safety Canopysystem (including the A, B and C pillar trim)
must be inspected and serviced by a authorized dealer. If the
Safety Canopyis not replaced, the unrepaired area will increase the
risk of injury in a collision.

Starting the engine
Note:Whenever you start your vehicle, release the key as soon as the
engine starts. Excessive cranking could damage the starter.
1. Turn the key to 4 (START)
without pressing the accelerator
pedal and release as soon as the
engine starts. The key will return to
3 (ON).
2. When the engine starts, release the key.
3. After idling for a few seconds, apply the brake, shift into gear and
drive.
Note:If the engine does not start within five seconds on the first try,
turn the key to OFF, wait 10 seconds and try again. If the engine still
fails to start, press the accelerator to the floor and try again; this will
allow the engine to crank with the fuel shut off in case the engine is
flooded with fuel.
Guarding against exhaust fumes
Carbon monoxide is present in exhaust fumes. Take precautions to avoid
its dangerous effects.
If you smell exhaust fumes inside your vehicle, have your dealer
inspect your vehicle immediately. Do not drive if you smell
exhaust fumes.
Important ventilating information
If the engine is idling while the vehicle is stopped for a long period of
time, open the windows at least one inch (2.5 cm) or adjust the heating
or air conditioning to bring in fresh air.
