washer fluid
For best results as well as for
your safety, use only CITROËN
approved products which protect
at temperatures as low as -25°C
to -30°C.
It is essential to have sufficient
screen wash fluid if your vehicle is
equipped with Xenon headlamps.
To check the level, place a finger
on aperture
A before removing
the cap.
Capacity: see “Capacities”. Brake fluid
The synthetic fluid not only gives protection against corrosion bu
t also
ensures correct functioning of the braking system in all environment al con-
ditions, therefore you should only use the synthetic product reco mmended
by the CITROËN network. (this fluid must be replaced every two years).
These important requirements are detailed in your vehicle’s maint enance
guide.
Quality: see “maintenance guide”.
When working under the bonnet, when the engine is hot
(even stopped and the ignition switched off),
the cooling fan could operate at any time.
Brake fluid reservoir
Check and top up at regular inter
-
vals.
The fluid level must be situated
within the MAX and MIN marks
visible on the reservoir.
If the warning lamp lights, stop
immediately and contact the near-
est CITROËN dealer.

Protection cover
Engine HDi 138
Remove the protection cover by
first unclipping point
1, then 3
and 4. Detach point 2 by pulling
towards you, then lift.
To reposition the protection cover,
attach point 2 first. Lower the
cover, keeping it centred. Clip
points 1 and 4, pushing vertically
and slightly rearwards. Clip point 3
pushing down vertically.
HDi engines are of a highly technical nature.
All maintenance and repairs require specific qualificati ons which
only your CITROËN Dealer can guarantee.
Bleeding of water from the
diesel fuel filter
To be bled on a regular basis (at
every oil change).
To evacuate the water, slacken the
bleed screw or the water in diesel
fuel sensor, which is located at
the base of the filter, until water
ceases to flow out.
Then retighten the bleed screw or
the water in diesel fuel sensor.

Priming the fuel system
In the event of running out of fuel:
- After filling (5 litres minimum),
operate the manual priming
pump until some resistance is
felt.
- Operate the starter motor while depressing the accelerator pedal
slightly until the engine starts.
If the engine fails to start at the first
attempt, wait 15 seconds before trying again.
If the engine fails to start after
several attempts, repeat the pro -
cedure from the beginning.
When the engine is idling, accel -
erate slightly to complete the
bleeding of the circuit.

134 Access to the battery
The battery is located on the left hand side in the
engine compartment (see “ Engines “).
Emergency starting with a slave battery
A vehicle with a discharged battery can be started
with either a slave battery or the battery of another
vehicle.

It is essential to proceed strictly following the sequence
indicated.
Check that the emergency battery is correctly charged
up (12 volts). If you are using the battery on another
vehicle, stop the engine of the assisting vehicle. The
two vehicles must not come into direct contact with
each other.
Connect the cables in the order indicated in the dia-
gram. Make sure that the clamps are properly secured
(risk of sparks).
Start the engine of the assisting vehicle. Let the engine
run for about a minute at a slightly accelerated speed.
Never apply a flame or create sparks close to the battery (explo-sive gas). The battery contains diluted sulphuric acid w hich is
highly corrosive.
If ever you are handling the battery, protect your eyes a nd face.
In the event of any contact with the skin, rinse immediatel y with
copious amounts of fresh water.
Advice
Replace it with a battery of the
same type (voltage, amp rating).
Do not touch the cable clamps
during the procedure.
Do not lean over the batteries.
Disconnect the cables in the
reverse order to connection,
ensuring that they do not touch
each other. Start the engine of the assisted vehicle.
Note:
For any repair necessitating a disconnection
of the battery, it is essential to wait three minutes
after switching off the ignition and to avoid any action
that could prevent the vehicle’s electrical circuit from
changing to standby mode (such as opening and clos-
ing doors, using the remote control etc.).

After the battery has been disconnected for a long period, it
may be necessary to re-initialise the following func-
tions:
- Anti-pinch and sequential operation on the electric window s.
- Parameters of the multifunction display (date, time, language , units of distance and temperature).
- Radio stations.
- Navigation reception.
- Synchronisation of remote control.
- Central locking.
Certain adjustments will be cancelled: it is necessary to make th em again.
WARNING: If disconnecting the battery, check that the colour navigation reader located in the glovebox
has finished its recording of information on switching off ignitio n: the warning lamp should have gone
out. Starting the engine for the first time after disconnecting and
connecting the battery:
- Turn the ignition key.
- Wait approx. one minute before actioning the starter, so a
s to allow the
electronic systems to reinitialise.

There are two fuse boxes, one below the dashboard and one
under
the bonnet.
Fuses under the dashboard
To access the fuses below the dashboard, pull back the access
cover, undo the screws a quarter turn and tilt the whole uni t.

Replacing a fuse
Before replacing a fuse, it is essential to find the cause of the in
ci-
dent and to rectify it. The fuse identification numbers are indi cated
inside the fuse box.
Replace a blown fuse with one of the same rating
(the same colour)
Use the special pliers A stowed on the cover close to the fuse-
boxes, this includes a compartment for replacement fuses.
