Automatic climate control*
Air recirculation mode
Switch to air recirculation mode to prevent
unpleasant odors from entering the vehicle
from the outside. This setting cuts off the
intake of outside air and recirculates the
air in the passenger compartment.

When the outside temperature is
below 41°F (5°C), only switch to air
recirculation mode for short periods to
prevent window fogging.
Window fogging may impair visibility and
endanger you and others.
iIf you keep button , pressed, the
side windows and panorama roof with
power tilt/sliding panel* will close.Warning!

Never operate the side windows and the
panorama roof with power tilt/sliding pan-
el* if there is the possibility of anyone being
harmed by the closing procedure.
Vehicles without panorama roof with power
tilt/sliding panel*:
In the event that the procedure causes
potential danger, the opening and closing of
the side windows can be immediately halted
by pressing or pulling the respective window
switch.
Vehicles with panorama roof with power
tilt/sliding panel*:
In the event that the procedure causes po-
tential danger, the opening and closing of
the side windows can be immediately halted
by releasing the , button or
by pressing or pulling the respective window
switch. The opening and closing of the pan-
orama roof with power tilt/sliding panel*
can be immediately halted by releasing the
, button or by moving the panorama
roof with power tilt/sliding panel switch in
the overhead control panel in any direction.

Deactivating

The indicator lamp on the button goes
out. The air recirculation mode is deactivated
automatically:
after five minutes if the outside
temperature is below
approximately 41°F (5 °C)
after five minutes if the air conditioning
is turned off
after 30 minutes if the outside
temperature is above
approximately 41°F (5 °C)
At outside temperatures above 79°F
(26 °C) the system will not automatically
switch back to outside air. A quantity of
outside air is added after approximately
30 minutes.
iThe air recirculation mode is activated
automatically:
at high outside temperatures
if the concentration of carbon mon-
oxide and nitrogen oxide in the
outside air increases, for example
in a tunnel (charcoal filter must be
activated for the air recirculation
mode to be activated automatically)
The indicator lamp on the button ,
is not lit when the air recirculation
mode is automatically switched on.
After approximately 30 minutes, out-
side air is added to the air inside the
vehicle.
If you have turned off the air
conditioning (
page 192) or the out-
side temperature is below 41°F (5°C),
the air recirculation mode will not
switch on automatically.
iIf you keep button , pressed, the
side windows and panorama roof with
power tilt/sliding panel* will return to
their previous position.

Automatic climate control*
Charcoal filter
An activated charcoal filter markedly
reduces bad odors and removes pollutants
from air entering the passenger compart-
ment. The charcoal filter can be activated
or deactivated.
The system switches automatically to the
air recirculation mode, if the
carbon monoxide (CO)
or
nitrogen oxide (NO
X)
concentration of the outside air increases
beyond a predetermined level. Activating

diately halted by releasing the e button
or by moving the panorama roof with power
tilt/sliding panel switch in the overhead
control panel in any direction.

Air conditioning
The air conditioning is operational while
the engine is running and cools the interior
air to the temperature set by the operator. Deactivating
It is possible to deactivate the air condi-
tioning (cooling) function of the automatic
climate control system. The air in the
vehicle will then no longer be cooled or
dehumidified.

If you turn off the cooling function, the
vehicle will not be cooled when weather
conditions are warm. The windows can fog
up more quickly. Window fogging may
impair visibility and endanger you and
others.

Stopping windows
Press or pull respective switch again.
Opening and closing the windows with
the SmartKey
The panorama roof with power tilt/sliding
panel* (
page 241) will also be opened or
closed when the power windows are oper-
ated with the SmartKey.
!If the upward movement of the window
is blocked during the closing proce-
dure, the window will stop and open
slightly.
Remove the obstruction, pull the
switch again past the resistance point
and release.
If the window still does not close when
there is no obstruction, then pull and
hold the switch again. The side window
will then close without the obstruction
sensor function.
Warning!

Driver's door only:
If within five seconds you again pull the
switch past the resistance point and re-
lease, the automatic reversal will not func-
tion.

In the event that the procedure causes po-
tential danger, the procedure can be imme-
diately halted by releasing the button on the

Opening and closing the roller

The tilt/sliding panel and the roller sun-
blinds are opened and closed electrically.
The switch for the tilt/sliding panel and the
roller sunblinds is on the overhead control
panel.
The roller sunblinds only operate with the

When opening or closing the tilt/sliding pan-
el, make sure there is no danger of anyone
being harmed by the opening or closing pro-
cedure.
If the tilt/sliding panel is closed with the
convenience closing feature and becomes
blocked, it will not open automatically.
Should this occur, press the Œbutton on
the SmartKey and hold it down; the tilt/slid-
ing panel opens again.
The panorama roof with power tilt/sliding
panel is made out of glass. In the event of an
accident, the glass may shatter. This may
result in an opening in the roof.
In a vehicle rollover, occupants not wearing
their seat belts or not wearing them properly
may be thrown out of the opening. Such an
opening also presents a potential for injury
for occupants wearing their seat belts prop-
erly as entire body parts or portions of them
may protrude from the passenger compart-
ment.
When leaving the vehicle, always remove the
SmartKey from starter switch, take it with
you, and lock the vehicle. Do not leave chil-
dren unattended in the vehicle, or with ac-
cess to an unlocked vehicle. Unsupervised
use of vehicle equipment can cause an acci-
dent and/or serious personal injury.

To open or close the roller sunblinds,
move the roof panel switch to the resis-
tance point in the required
direction1to4 .
Release the roof panel switch when the
roller sunblinds have reached the de-
