68If either of the following conditions occurs, this indicates
a malfunction somewhere in the components monitored
by the warning light system. Contact your Lexus dealer as
soon as possible to service the vehicle.

The light does not come on when the ignition key is turned
to the ªONº position, or remains on.
 The light comes on while you are driving.
A warning light turning on briefly during operation does not
indicate a problem.
CAUTION
If the ªABSº warning light remains on together with the
brake system warning light, immediately stop your
vehicle at a safe place and contact your Lexus dealer.
In this case, not only the anti±lock brake system will fail
but also the vehicle will become extremely unstable
during braking.
Either of the following conditions may occur, but do not
indicate a malfunction:
 The light may stay on for about 60 seconds after the ignition
key is turned to the ªONº position. It is normal if it turns off
after a while.
 Depressing the brake pedal repeatedly may turn on the
light. It is normal if it turns off after a few seconds.
(g) Open Door Warning Light
This light remains on until all the side doors and back door are
completely closed.
(h) Unengaged ªParkº Warning Light
This light warns that the transmission ªParkº mechanism is not
engaged. If the four±wheel drive control is in the ªNº position
while the selector lever is in the ªPº position, the transmission
will disengage and the wheels will not lock.
CAUTION
To restore the park function, shift the four±wheel drive
control out of ªNº.

(i) Automatic Transmission Fluid TemperatureWarning Light
This light warns that the automatic transmission fluid
temperature is too high. If this light comes on while you are driving, slow down and pull
off the road. Stop the vehicle at a safe place and put the
selector lever in ªPº and leave the engine idling until the light
goes off. If the light goes off, you can start the vehicle again.
If the light does not go off, call a Lexus dealer or qualified repair
shop for assistance.
NOTICE
Continued driving with the warning light on may
damage the automatic transmission.

When
the automatic transmission selector lever is shifted
into ªRº position with the master switch in the ªLº or ªR\
º
position, the rear view mirrors automatically down to help
backing up. The mirrors return to the previous position in the following
operations.

Shift the transmission lever out of ªRº position.
 Place the master switch in the neutral position.
NOTICE
If ice should jam the mirror, do not operate the control
or scrape the mirror face. Use a spray de±icer to free themirror.

AUDIO

the disc menu is displayed. The next or previous page will
appear on the screen.
Push the ªD. Menu Nextº or ªD. Menu Prev.º switch while

be searched and played. (e) Changing a multiplex transmission (video CD only)Push the ªMain/Subº switch to change a multiplex
transmission. The mode changes from Main/Sub to Main

ªACCº Ð Accessories such as the radio operate, but the
engine is off.
If you leave the key in the ªACCº or ªLOCKº position and open
the driver's door, a buzzer will remind you to remove the key.
ªLOCKº Ð Engine is off and the steering wheel is locked.
The ignition key can be removed only at this position.
To turn the key from ªACCº to the ªLOCKº position, you must
put the transmission selector lever in the ªPº position.
Once you remove the key, the engine immobilizer system is
automatically set. See ªEngine immobilizer systemº on page
14.
When starting the engine, the key may seem stuck at the
ªLOCKº position. To free it, first be sure the key is pushed all
the way in, and then rock the steering wheel slightly while
turning the key gently.
Approximately
five hours after the engine is turned off, you may
hear sound coming from underneath the luggage compartment
for several minutes. This is normal operation and does not
indicate a malfunction. (See ªLeak detection pumpº on page
vi.)
If, in an emergency, you must turn the engine off while the
vehicle is moving, turn the key only to ªACCº.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Your automatic transmission has a shift lock system to
minimize the possibility of incorrect operation. This
means you can only shift out of ªPº position when the
brake pedal is depressed with the ignition switch in ªONº
position. ()

The shift position is displayed beside the selector lever
and on the instrument cluster.
P: Parking, engine starting and key removal position
R: Reverse position
N: Neutral position
D: Normal driving position (Shifting into overdrive possible)
4: Position for engine braking (Shifting into overdrive not
possible)
When the cruise control is being used, even if you
downshift from ªDº to ª4º, engine braking will not be
enabled because the cru ise control is not cancelled. For
the operation to decrease the vehicle speed, see page
421.
