AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID
The automatic transaxle fluid level should be checked and changed at those intervals pre-scribed in the maintenance schedule. It is ofparamount importance that only the specifiedfluid is used when replenishing or changing thefluid. The use of other fluids may irreparablydamage the transaxle and invalidate the manu-facturers warranty. In addition the ingress of dirtor lint may prevent correct functioning of thetransaxle and care must be exercised to pre-vent the ingress of such matter. NOTE:
Automatic transaxle fluid is a red color. As driving distance increases, the fluid colorturns darkish red gradually. It is a normalcondition and you should not judge theneed to replace based upon the changingcolor. You must replace the automatic transaxlefluid in accordance with intervals specifiedin the vehicle maintenance schedule insection 5.
CAUTION:The transaxle on fluid level must bechecked with the engine running and atnormal operating temperature and there-fore care must be exercised to preventinjury occurring through contact withrotating or hot parts of the engine.
Ensure that the vehicle is parked on level
ground with the parking brake firmly appliedand the engine cool. Remove the level plugfrom the transaxle when lubricant should be-gin to drip from the level hole. If the level islow and no lubricant is seen to drip, add therequired quantity of lubricant and replace theplug.

Transaxle Lubricant Level Checking
The manual transaxle lubricant must be checked and or changed at the intervalsspecified in the maintenance schedule. Onlythose lubricants specified should be used inorder to prevent gear shifting difficulties ortransaxle damage. WARNING: The transaxle lubricant level should only be checked when the engine is cold topreclude the possibility of personal injuryby contact with hot components.
Recommended Oil Use only the approved transaxle lubricant. The recommended lubricants are complete inthemselves and the use of additives is neitherrequired nor recommended. The use of addi-tives may invalidate the vehicle warranty.

Recommended Fluid
Your Hyundai automatic transaxle is specially
designed to operate with HYUNDAI GENU- INE ATF SP III, DIAMOND ATF SP-III, SKATF SP III or other brands approved byHundai Motor Co,. Damage caused by anonspecified fluid is not covered by your newvehicle limited warranty.
CAUTION: Use of aftermarket ATF additives may
cause damage to the automatic transaxle. Only use HYUNDAI GENUINE ATF SP III,DIAMOND ATF SP III, SK ATF SP III orother brands approved by Hyundai MotorCo., If you are having your vehicle ser-viced at a facility other than a Hyundaiauthorised repairer, verify ATF is used foryour vehicle. SG110D2-E
Transaxle fluid level checking
The vehicle must be parked on level groundwith the parking brake firmly applied and theengine at normal operating temperature. (Nor-mal operating temperature will only be achievedwhen the vehicle has been driven for 6 miles ormore). With the engine idling and the footbrake ap- plied, the transaxle selector should be movedfrom the "P" position through to the "L" positionand back to the "N" or "P" position. Open the bonnet and remove the transaxle dipstick, remembering that care must be ex-ercised to prevent injury occurring throughcontact with hot or rotating parts of the engine.
C090A01FC-D Wipe the dipstick, replace it fully and promptly
remove it again. The fluid level should be between the upper and lower marks. Fluidneed only be added if the level is at or belowthe lower mark and must never be increasedabove the higher mark. If additional fluid isrequired, this should be poured into the trans-mission through the dipstick tube with the aidof a suitable funnel.
CAUTION: The automatic transaxle unit is a preci-
sion engineered assembly and correct operation is dependant upon the exclu-sion of dirt and lint from the unit. There-fore, it is imperative that only lint freecloth (eg nylon) is used for wiping thedipstick and that the area around thedipstick is thoroughly clean prior to levelchecking or adding fluid.

6-16 SG120D1-E Brake Fluid Level The fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir should be checked periodically. The levelshould be between the "MIN" and "MAX"marks on the side of the reservoir. If the levelis at or below the "MIN" mark, fluid should beadded having carefully cleaned the area sur-rounding the reservoir cap to ensure that dirtis not allowed to enter the system. It shouldbe noted that the brake fluid level will de-crease slightly as the friction linings of thepads and shoes become worn and that this isa normal condition.

BRAKE SYSTEM CHECKING CAUTION:
Correct operation of the braking system is
essential to the safe operation of the vehicle and therefore, any maintenance operationsother than those listed below should beentrusted to a Hyundai authorised re-pairer.

WARNING: The cooling fan is controlled by engine
coolant temperature and may sometimes operate even when the engine is not run-ning. Use extreme caution when workingnear the blades of the cooling fan so thatyou are not injured by a rotating fan blade. As the engine coolant temperature de-creases, the fan will automatically shutoff. This is a normal condition.
WARNING (Diesel only): Never work on injection system with en-
gine running or within 30 seconds after shutting off engine. High pressure pump, rail, injectors and high pressure pipes aresubject to high pressure even after theengine stopped. The fuel jet produced byfuel leaks may cause serious injury, if itcontacts the body.

WARNING: Brake fluid is hygroscopic and should never be stored in an unsealed container. The presence of water in the brakingsystem will cause vapour locks and in-crease the possibility of brake fade alongwith promoting corrosion within the brak-ing system. The brake fluid must bechanged at the specified time or mileageinterval to ensure continued safe opera-tion of the system. Brake fluid will causerapid and serious damage to paintwork. Ifaccidental spillage occurs, the affectedarea must be rinsed with water immedi-ately. Do not allow brake fluid to comeinto contact with the eyes or to be in-gested and ensure that fluid is safelystored away form the reach of children.
