G040A01TB-EAT ENGINE OIL AND FILTER REPLACEMENT
The engine oil and filter must be changed at the time or mileage interval specifiedin the maintenance schedule. If the vehicle is operated under severe or adverse conditions, the oil and filtermust be replaced more frequently. To replace the oil and filter, proceed as follows:
1. Ensure that the engine is at normaloperating temperature and park the vehicle on level ground with the park- ing brake securely applied and the engine turned off.
2. Open the bonnet and remove the oil filler cap.

Diesel engine Only ethylene glycol based coolant with a corrosion inhibitor suited to aluminium alloy engine components should be used in the cooling system. No further additives or inhibitors should be used.The coolant specific gravity should be checked as prescribed in the mainte- nance schedule to ensure adequatefrost and corrosion protection. In addi- tion, the engine coolant must be re- placed at the specified interval sincethe corrosion inhibitor properties dete- riorate with time. It is important to note that whilst anincrease in the concentration of anti freeze gives an increase in the level offrost protection, a solution which is in excess of 65% anti freeze will result in reduced frost protection and engineoverheating. Therefore the recom- mended concentration of 50% should not be exceeded for general use.The use of methanol based anti freeze compounds may result in engine over- heating and will invalidate the vehiclewarranty. NOTE: It is imperative that vehicles fitted with an air conditioning system have a coolant concentration of the rec- ommended strength at all times. Theuse of the air conditioning system when the cooling system is filled with water only will result in theheater matrix freezing and subse- quently bursting.
SG050C1-E Engine Coolant Level The engine coolant level may be ob- served through the side of the plasticcoolant reservoir (expansion tank) when the engine is cold. If the level is below the "LOW" mark, add coolant of thecorrect concentration until the level is between the "LOW" and "Full" marks. If the level falls below the "LOW" mark ona regular basis despite being topped up, consult a Hyundai authorised repairer. SG050D1-E To Change the engine Coolant The engine coolant should be changed at those intervals specified in the ve- hicle maintenance schedule in Section5. NOTE: Care should be taken to ensure that coolant is not allowed to spill ontothe paintwork since the finish may become damaged. If coolant spill- age occurs, the affected area shouldbe rinsed thoroughly with water.

Recommended Oil Use only the approved transaxle lubri- cant. The recommended lubricants are complete in themselves and the use ofadditives is neither required nor recom- mended. The use of additives may invalidate the vehicle warranty.
Transaxle Lubricant Level Checking Ensure that the vehicle is parked on level ground with the parking brake firmly applied and the engine cool. Re-move the level plug from the transaxle when lubricant should begin to drip from the level hole. If the level is low and nolubricant is seen to drip, add the re-
G100B02A-EAT TRANSAXLE FLUID LEVEL CHECKING The vehicle must be parked on level ground with the parking brake firmly applied and the engine at normal oper- ating temperature. (Normal operatingtemperature will only be achieved when the vehicle has been driven for 6 miles or more).
SG110A1-E AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID The automatic transaxle fluid level should be checked and changed at those intervals prescribed in the main-tenance schedule. It is of paramount importance that only the specified fluid is used when replenishing or changingthe fluid. The use of other fluids may irreparably damage the transaxle and invalidate the manufacturers warranty.In addition the ingress of dirt or lint may prevent correct functioning of the transaxle and care must be exercisedto prevent the ingress of such matter.
CAUTION:
The transaxle on fluid level must bechecked with the engine running andat normal operating temperature and therefore care must be exercised to prevent injury occurring throughcontact with rotating or hot parts of the engine.

The various engine drive belts must be checked for condition, tension and free- dom from damage and excessive wear.The tension of a new belt must be checked after thirty minutes running following fitment of the new belt to allowfor the initial belt stretch. 1. CRANKCASE EMISSION
CONTROLSYSTEM
The positive crankcase ventilation
system is employed to prevent airpollution caused by blow-by gasesbeing emitted from the crankcase by introducing fresh air to the crankcase through the air cleaner where thismixes with blow-by gases and then passes through the PCV valve into the intake manifold from where it sub-sequently enters the combustion chamber and is burned.

The Evaporative Emission Control
System is designed to prevent fuel vapours from escaping into the atmo- sphere through the fuel tank ventila- tion system.
Whilst the engine is not running, fuel

CAUTION:
o Shift into "R" and "P" position only when the vehicle has com- pletely stopped.
o Do not accelerate the engine in reverse or any of the forwardpositions with the brakes applied.
o Always apply the footbrake when shifting from "P" or "N", to "R",
"D", "2" or "L" position.
o Do not use the "P" (Park) posi- tion in place of the parking brake.Always set the parking brake, shift the transaxle into "P" (Park)position and turn off the ignition when you leave the vehicle, even momentarily. Never leave the ve-hicle unattended while the en- gine is running.
o When accelerating from a stop on a steep hill, the vehicle mayhave a tendency to roll back- wards. Shifting the shift lever into2nd gear will help prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards. C090N03A-AAT Good Driving Practices
o Never move the gear selector lever
from "P" or "N" to any other position with the accelerator pedal de- pressed.
o Never move the gear selector lever into "P" when the vehicle is in mo-tion.
o Be sure the car is completely stopped before you attempt to shift into "R".
o Never take the car out of gear and
coast down a hill. This may be ex- tremely hazardous. Always leave the car in gear when moving.
! o Do not "ride" the brakes. This can
cause them to overheat and mal- function. Instead, when you are driv-ing down a long hill, slow down and shift to a lower gear. When you do this, engine braking will help slowthe car.
o Slow down before shifting to a lower
gear. Otherwise, the lower gear maynot be engaged.
o Always use the parking brake. Do
not depend on placing the transaxlein "P" to keep the car from moving.
o Exercise extreme caution when driv-
ing on a slippery surface. Be espe-cially careful when braking, acceler- ating or shifting gears. On a slippery surface, an abrupt change in ve-hicle speed can cause the drive

C150A01A-AAT SMOOTH CORNERING Avoid braking or gear changing in cor- ners, especially when roads are wet.Ideally, corners should always be taken under gentle acceleration. If you follow these suggestions, tire wear will beheld to a minimum.
o Keep your car in good condition. For
better fuel economy and reducedmaintenance costs, maintain yourcar in accordance with the mainte- nance schedule in Section 5. If you drive your car in severe conditions,more frequent maintenance is re- quired (see Section 5 for details).
o Keep your car clean. For maximum service, your Hyundai should bekept clean and free of corrosive materials. It is especially importantthat mud, dirt, ice, etc. not be al- lowed to accumulate on the under- side of the car. This extra weightcan result in increased fuel con- sumption and also contribute to cor- rosion.
o Travel lightly. Don't carry unneces- sary weight in your car. Weight re-duces fuel economy.
o Don't let the engine idle longer than necessary. If you are waiting (andnot in traffic), turn off your engineand restart only when you're ready to go.
o Remember, your Hyundai does not require extended warm-up. As soonas the engine is running smoothly, you can drive away. In very cold weather, however, give your engine a slightly longer warm-up period.
o Don't "lug" or "over-rev" the engine. Lugging is driving too slowly in toohigh a gear resulting in the engine bucking. If this happens, shift to alower gear. Over-revving is racing the engine beyond its safe limit. This can be avoided by shifting atthe recommended speeds.
o Use your air conditioning sparingly.
The air conditioning system is oper-ated by engine power so your fuel economy is reduced when you use it. C160A01A-AAT WINTER DRIVING The more severe weather conditions of winter result in greater wear andother problems. To minimize the prob- lems of winter driving, you should fol- low these suggestions: C160B01A-GAT Snowy or Icy Conditions To drive your vehicle in deep snow, it may be necessary to use snow tires or to install tire chains on your tires. If snow tires are needed, it is necessary to select tires equivalent in size and type to the original equipment tires.Failure to do so may adversely affect the safety and handling of your car. Speeding, rapid acceleration, suddenbrake applications, and sharp turns are potentially very hazardous prac- tices. During deceleration, use enginebraking to the fullest extent. Sudden brake applications on snowy or icy roads may cause skids to occur. Youneed to keep sufficient distance be- tween the vehicle in front and your vehicle. Also, apply the brake gently. Itshould be noted that installing tire
