CONTROLS AND EQUIPMENT
Adjustable steering columnThe steering column can be adjusted for
angle and length.
First of all, properly adjust the driver’s seat.
Swivel lever below steering column down
as far as the stop.
Adjust the angle and length of the steer-
ing wheel to suit your body proportions.
Push the lever back up again - toward
the steering column.
Warning
The steering column must not be ad-
justed when driving.
For safety reasons, the lever must al-
ways be pressed firmly up again so
that the steering wheel cannot move
while the vehicle is in motion.

Do not switch on any large current consum-
ers when heating the glow plugs to prevent
draining the battery unnecessarily.

Emergency programIf a fault develops in the gearbox electron-
ics, emergency programs are activated de-
pending on the type of fault.
The gearbox does continue to shift au-
tomatically but more severe shift jolts can
be felt in this case. You should drive the
car to the nearest Škoda Dealer.
The gearbox no longer shifts automati-
cally.
In this case, the gearbox can still be shifted
manually but only 3rd gear is available in the
selector lever positions „D“ , „3“ and „2“.
1st gear and Reverse gear are available as
usual when the selector lever is moved into
positions „1“ and „R“.
However, the torque converter has to per-
form more work, particularly because 2nd
gear is no longer available. In such cases,
it is possible that the gear oil may become
too warm.
It is therefore necessary to drive the car
immediately to a Škoda Dealer.

114SAFETYClass 2For children up to about 7 years weighing
between 15 and 25 kg it is recommended
to use child seats in combination with the
three-point seat belts.Warning
The shoulder belt part must run ap-
proximately across the middle of the
shoulder - on no account across the
neck - and fit snugly against the top
part of the body. The lap belt must run
across the pelvis - and not across the
stomach.
Class 3For children of about 7 years weighing be-
tween 22 and 36 kg and with a height of
less than 1.50 m, it is recommended to use
seat cushions in combination with the three-
point seat belts.Warning
The shoulder belt part must run ap-
proximately across the middle of the
shoulder - on no account across the
neck - and fit snugly against the top
part of the body. The lap belt must run
across the pelvis - and not across the
stomach. Children taller than 1.50 m (5') can use the
standard seat belts fitted to the car without
a seat cushion.
Notes
We recommend using child restraint
systems from the Genuine Accessories
range of Škoda dealers. Such systems
have been developed and tested for use in
Škoda vehicles, and comply with the ECE-R
44 Standard.
Warning
Particular care is required if child
restraint systems are used which are
bolted on together with the belts fit-
ted in the vehicle. The belts must be
screwed into the hole over the com-
plete nominal length and tightened to
a torque of 40 Nm.
The seat belts must be inspected
to ensure they are correctly routed.
In addition, it is important to ensure
that the belt webbing cannot be dam-
aged by any sharp-edged fittings.
Only one child may be belted in us-
ing a child restraint system.

DO-IT-YOURSELF
Jack up car until the wheel is just clear
of the ground.
Remove wheel bolts (after slackening)
1),
place them down on a clean surface (cloth,
paper, wheel cap) next to the car jack and
take off wheel.
Fit on spare wheel and attach wheel
bolts
1).
Tighten all the wheel bolts slightly. The
wheel bolts should be clean and turn freely.
On no account grease or oil them!
Lower car and tighten the wheel bolts
diagonally.
Press on the full wheel trim* first at the
valve opening and then apply pressure
around the entire circumference so that the
trim locks in position.
1)In order to accelerate the screwing out and in,
use the handle part of the screwdriver from the
car tool kit, which has on its end a hexagon
socket for the screw head.
Place the wheel removed in the spare
wheel well and secure with the handwheel.
Notes
After changing a wheel, pay attention to
the following points:
- Check the inflation pressure of the spare wheel fitted.
- Have the tightening torque of the wheel bolts checked with a torque wrench as
soon as possible. The tightening torque
for steel and light alloy wheels is 120 Nm.
Have the faulty wheel repaired as quickly
as possible. Warning
In case of incorrect treatment of the
wheel bolts, the wheel can loosen
when the car is moving - risk of acci-
dent!
Wheel bolts must be clean and must
turn easily. However
, they must never
be treated with grease or oil.
If the wheel bolts are tightened to a
too low tightening torque, the trims
can loosen when the car is moving -
risk of accident! A tightening torque,
which is too high, can damage the
bolts and threads and this can result
in permanent deformation of the con-
tact surfaces on the trims.
If it is intended to subsequently fit
wheels or tyres other than the factory-
fitted versions to the car, it is essen-
tial to read the remarks on page 156.

Pull off the wheel caps and fit adapter B
onto the wheel bolt A. Turn adapter until
the splines engage.
Slacken or tighten the wheel bolt by fit-
ting the wheel wrench to the hexagon of the
adapter.
After removing the adapter, fit a protec-
tive cap onto the wheel bolt.
Note
It is essential that the locking bolt is tight-
ened to a torque of 120 Nm . If this torque
is exceeded, the bolt and the adapter may
in certain circumstances be damaged.
On steel wheels, the theft-deterrent
wheel bolt must always be installed in the
hole, which is close to the valve. Otherwise
the full wheel trim cannot be mounted and
the full wheel trim can be damaged during
the assembly.
You can also obtain the wheel lock bolt
set as a Genuine Accessory from your
Škoda dealer.
Anti-theft lock of wheels*Wheel locking bolts
A - Wheel bolt
B - Adapter
If wheel locking bolts are fitted to a car (one
bolt for each wheel), these can only be
slackened and tightened using the adapter
supplied. It is good practice to note the code
No. indicated on the adapter.
If the adapter or the wheel locking bolt is
lost, contact your Škoda Dealer.
Fire extinguisher*The fire extinguisher is located in the holder
below the driver seat and is secured with
straps.
Carefully read the instructions regarding
the fire extinguisher.
The fire extinguisher must be inspected
once a year by a regular person or a com-
pany. Please pay attention to the different
legal regulations.
The fire extinguisher is only delivered in
certain countries.
Pay attention to the expiration date of the
fire extinguisher. If the fire extinguisher is
used after the expiration date, its proper
function is no longer assured.
