6CONTROLS AND EQUIPMENTKeysTwo keys are supplied with the car. These
keys fit all the locks of the car.Warning
Always withdraw the ignition key
when leaving the car - even if only for
a short time.
Note
Keep the groove of the key absolutely clean
as impurities (textile threads, dust, etc.) can
have a negative affect on the operation of
the locks, the remote control etc. Key tab
The key tab contains the key numbers which
are essential for re-ordering replacement
keys. You can refer to these numbers to or-
der replacement keys from a Škoda Dealer.
Note
You should keep the key tab in a sepa-
rate and safe place for it is only possi-
ble to obtain replacement keys if a key
is lost or damaged by stating this num-
ber.
If you sell your car, please also hand over
the key tab to the new owner.
Key with light*The light is switched on by pressing on the
middle of the key (arrow 1).
Changing battery or bulb
Insert a coin into the slot on the side of
the handle (arrow 2) and lever off top part.
Change battery or bulb.
Replacement batteries and bulbs are avail-
able from Škoda Dealers.
Dispose of the old battery in ac- cordance with environmental regu-
lations.
60CONTROLS AND EQUIPMENTOpening doors*If a door is open, this is indicated by this
warning light.
Vehicles with information display
As an additional warning signal, a peep
sounds if the car is driven at a speed of
more than 6km/hour and if the door or the
luggage compartment door is open.Washer fluid level*The warning light comes on if the washer
fluid level is too low. Top up washer fluid -
see page 151.
An audible warning signal also sounds (sin-
gle peep signal).Bulbs*This warning light comes on if the bulb of
the luminous element is faulty during:
Operation of brakes (brake light)
Malfunction of illumination (low beam (or
fog light)
An audible warning signal also sounds (sin-
gle peep signal)
Testing engine electronics*The warning light comes on when the igni-
tion is switched on.
If the warning light does not go out after
starting the engine, or comes on or flashes
when driving, this indicates a fault in the
engine electronics system or in systems
which influence exhaust emissions. A pro-
gramme stored in the engine control unit
makes it possible to continue driving with
certain restrictions - contact a Škoda dealer
for professional help.Electronic stability
program (ESP)*The warning light comes on for a few se-
conds when the ignition is switched on.
The ESP system also includes the traction
control system (TCS).
The light flashes when driving if the system
has activated a control cycle.
The warning light will come on and remain
on if the system is switched off or if a sy-
stem fault exists.
As the ESP system operates in combination
with the ABS, EDL and EBC, the ESP warn-
ing light also comes on if the ABS system fails.
Further details are given on pages 84 and
122 - 124.
Traction control system (TCS)*The warning light comes on for a few se-
conds when the ignition is switched on.
The light flashes when driving if the system
has activated a control cycle.
The warning light will come on and remain
on if the system is switched off or if a sy-
stem fault exists.
As the TCS system operates in combinati-
on with the ABS, EDL and EBC, the TCS
warning light also comes on if the ABS sy-
stem fails.
Further details are given on pages 65 and
122 - 124.Anti-lock brake system (ABS)*The warning light monitors the ABS, or ABS
and EDL* system.
The ABS warning light should come on for
a few seconds when the ignition is switched
on. If the ABS warning light does not go off
after a few seconds, if it does not come on
at all, or comes on when driving, the sys-
tem is not operating properly. The car is
braked in this case without operation of the
ABS; only the normal brake system then
operates. Contact a Škoda Dealer as
soon as possible and adapt your style
of driving to the fault which exists for
you cannot know the extent of the pro-
blem.
66CONTROLS AND EQUIPMENTEmergency release of fuel filler flap
If the remote release at the driver’s seat*
does not operate properly, it is possible to
unlock the fuel filler flap manually:
Open tailgate, detach the luggage com-
partment trim on the right and pull off.
Then, push the locking rod in direction
of arrow - see illustration.
Headlight range controlIf the low beam is switched on, it can be
matched exactly to the load of the vehi-
cle with the headlight range control.
You can turn the knurled wheel until the
low beam has been adjusted in such a way
that other road users are not dazzled.
The individual headlight beam settings cor-
respond approximately to the following ve-
hicle load:
- - driver, front passenger
I - 5 persons
II - 5 persons and an additional 180 kg in
the luggage compartment, in line with the
permissible load of the front and rear axles
III - driver and an additional 330 kg in the
luggage compartment, in line with the per-
missible load of the front and rear axles.
Warning
Adjust the headlight beam control,
so that the traffic on the opposite
side is not dazzled.
Headlights fitted with Xenon bulbs adapt
automatically to the load and driving
state (e.g. accelerating, braking) when
ignition is switched on and when driv-
ing.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Wear eye protection. Pro-
tect your eyes, skin and
clothing from sprays from
particles which contain
acid or lead.
Battery acid is extremely
caustic. Wear protective
gloves and eye protec-
tion. Do not tilt the bat-
tery otherwise acid may flow out of
the vent openings. If acid splashes
into your eyes, rinse them immedi-
ately for a few minutes with clear
water and then contact a doctor with-
out delay. If acid splashes onto your
skin or clothing, neutralise it imme-
diately with soap suds and wash off
with plenty of water. If you swallow
acid, contact a doctor without delay. A highly explosive hydro-
gen is produced when bat-
teries are charged, which
in combination with air pro-
duces an explosive gas mixture.
No fire, sparks, naked flames
or smoking. Avoid sparks
when handling cables and
electrical equipment. Avoid
short circuits. Risk of injury from high-
powered sparks.
It is essential to disconnect the
negative cable at the battery before
performing any work on the electri-
cal system. When changing bulbs, it
is sufficient only to switch off the
light.
Installation is carried out in the reverse
order. When re-connecting the battery, re-
fer to the Notes on page 148.
It is not recommended to remove and in-
stall the battery (even if the instructions
in the Owner’s Manual are followed) be-
cause severe damage to the battery and
fuse box may result in certain circum-
stances. Contact your Škoda Dealership
for this work. Keep acid and battery away
from children.

drive
A commercially available first-aid box to-
gether with a warning triangle fit together
in a foam base below the floor covering of
the luggage compartment.
Note
The first-aid box, the warning triangle and
the bulbs are not supplied with the car!
The warning triangle is part of the stand-
ard equipment only on all-wheel drive ve-
hicles.
Car tool kitThe car tool kit and car jack are stored in a
plastic basket in the spare wheel.
This also provides space for the detachable
ball head of the trailer hitch (only on cer-
tain models) or also, for example, for a
trailer hitch which has been sold as a Škoda
Genuine Accessory.
Depending on the model version, the ball
head of the trailer hitch may also be stored
in the well behind the spare wheel. In this
case, you then have to use the first-aid box
stored in the upholstery.
More detailed information is available from
your Škoda dealer. Warning
The car jack supplied is only de-
signed for your model of car. On no
account attempt to lift heavier vehi-
cles or other loads.
Ensure that the vehicle tool kit is
safely attached in the luggage com-
partment.

The fuse assignment differs depending on
the version of your car.
The pliers for removing fuses and replace-
ment fuses are not contained in the car
equipment.
Replacing a bulbThe relevant light should always be swit-
ched off first of all before replacing a bulb.
Do not grasp the glass of the bulb with your
bare fingers (even the minutest spot of dirt
reduces the operational life of the bulb).
Use a clean cloth, napkin or similar.
A bulb should only be replaced by a lamp
of the same design . The designation is
given on the base of the bulb or on the
glass.
Warning
H4 bulbs are pressurized and may
burst when they are replaced. For
this reason, always wear gloves and
eye protection when changing a H4
bulb. Models with Xenon headlamps*
If your car is fitted with xenon head-
lights, have the bulb (low beam, side
light and main beam) replaced by a
Škoda dealer.
We recommend always carrying with you in
the car a box with a set of spare bulbs, which
you received together with your car, or which
is available from your Škoda Dealer
