Danger!
Risk ofan accident.
Severe personal injuryordeath canresult in
the event ofan accident.
Looking awayfromtheroad orturning your
attention awayfromyourdriving cancause
an accident andserious orfatal injury.
When usingyourcellular telephone, youshould al-
ways:
" Give fullattention toyour driving -pull offtile
road andpark before making oranswering a
call iftraffic conditions sorequire;
and
" Keep bothhands onthe steering wheel-use
hands-free operation(ifavailable) -pull offthe
road andpark before usingahand-held tele-
phone.
It
is essential toobserve theinstructions of
the telephone manufacturer beforeputting
the telephone intooperation.
Any portable telephone orradio transmitter which
is used inaPorsche mustbeproperly installedin
accordance withthetechnical requirements of
Porsche.
The transmission powermustnotexceed
lOW.
The devices mustpossess atype approval for
your vehicle andhave an"e"
symbol.
If you should require equipment withtransmission
power values greater than10 W, please consult
your authorized Porschedealerforthis purpose.
He isfamiliar withthetechnical requirements for
installing devicesofthis kind.
The antennas forallradios andtelephones witha
transmitting antennamustbeexternally mounted.
The improper installation ofradios ortelephones
or use ofaradio ortelephone withatransmitting
antenna insidethecar may cause
thewarning
lights tocome on.
Improper installation ofsuch equipment cancre-
ate adischarged batteryorexcessive current
draw fromadded equipment. If
aftermarket systemsareinstalled bynon-dealer-
ship technicians oroutside theselling dealer,
problems mayresult. Installation ofaftermarket
equipment isnot covered undertheNew CarWar-
ranty.
" Consult yourauthorized Porschedealerabout
the installation ofnon Porsche approved equip-
ment.
Reception quality
The reception qualityofyour cartelephone will
change constantly whenyouaredriving. Interfer-
ence caused bybuildings, landscape andweather
is unavoidable. Itmay become particularly difficult
to hear when usingthehands-free functiondueto
external noisesuchasengine andwind noise.

Engine
Oil
Engine oilconsumption
It is normal foryour engine toconsume oil.
The rate ofoil consumption dependsonthe quality
and viscosity ofoil, the speed atwhich theengine
is operated, theclimate, roadconditions aswell
as the amount ofdilution andoxidation ofthe
lubricant.
If the vehicle isused forrepeated shorttrips, and
consumes anormal amount ofoil, the engine oil
measurement maynotshow anydrop inthe oil
level atall, even after600miles (1000 km)or
more. Thisisbecause theoilisgradually becom-
ing diluted withfuelormoisture, makingitappear
that theoillevel hasnotchanged.
The diluting ingredients evaporateoutwhen the
vehicle isdriven athigh speeds, ason anexpress-
way, making itthen appear thatoilisexcessively
consumed afterdriving athigh speeds.
If the conditions youdrive yourvehicle inare
dusty, humid, orhot, thefrequency ofthe oil
change intervals shouldbegreater. If
the vehicle isdriven atahigh rateofspeed,
climatic conditions arewarm, andtheload ishigh,
the oilshould bechecked morefrequently, as
driving conditions willdetermine therate ofoil
consumption.
- The engine inyour vehicle depends onoilto
lubricate andcool allofits moving parts.
Therefore, theengine oilshould bechecked
regularly andkept atthe required level.
- Make ita habit tohave theengine oillevel
checked withevery fuelfilling.
- The oilpressure warninglightisnot anoillevel
indicator.
The oilpressure warninglightindicates serious
engine damage maybeoccuring whenlit,ifen-
gine rpmisabove idlespeed.

mately 1.0liter/l.l quarts.
4. Add engine oilquarter-liter atatime, ifneces-
sary.
5. Check oillevel withthedipstick again.
6. Carefully closecapofthe oilfiller opening.
Oilchange
The engine oilhas tobe changed atthe intervals
listed inyour
Maintenance Schedule.
'" Please observe thechapter "CAPACITIES" on
Page 185.
We recommend thatyouhave theengine oil
changed atyour Porsche dealer,whohasthere-
quired oilsand thenecessary fillingequipment.
If you suspect anoilleak inthe engine haveyour
dealer checkitout immediately.
All current engineoilsarecompatible witheach
other, i.e. when making anoilchange itis not nec-
essary toflush theengine ifyou wish touse adif-
ferent brandorgrade ofoil.
Since, however, eachbrand ofoil has aspecial
composition, youshould, ifpossible, usethe
same oilbrand ifit becomes necessary totop up
between oilchanges.
Porsche engineshavelongintervals betweenoil
changes. Youcanmake bestuseofthese longoil
change intervals byusing multigrade oilssince
these arelargely independent ofseasonal fluctua-
tions intemperature.
1
Maintenance, CarCare If
your vehicle isused frequently instop-and-go
traffic incold weather, theengine willnot always
be properly warmedup.
Condensation fromproducts ofcombustion may
accumulate inthe oil.Inthis case, itis advisable
to change theoilmore frequently sothat your en-
gine once again has100% efficient engineoil.
Engine oilperformance class
Engine oilisnot only alubricant, butalso serves
to keep theengine clean,toneutralize thedirt
which penetrates intotheengine through combus-
tion andtoprotect theengine against corrosion.
To perform thesefunctions, theoilisprovided
with additives whichhavebeen specially devel-
oped forthese functions.
The efficiency ofan oilisexpressed, forexample,
by the API, ILSAC orACEA classifications.
Viscosity
Like allliquids, engineoilisviscous whencold,
and thin-bodied whenwarm. Theviscosity ofan oil
is expressed byitsSAE class. Forcold viscosity
(measured attemperatures below32°F
jO°C)
the
SAE class isgiven asanumber andtheletter "W"
(as inwinter), forhot viscosity (measured at
212°FjlOO°C) theSAE class isgiven onlyasa
number.
The viscosity ofan oilis,therefore, alwaysthe
same ifithas thesame number ofan SAE class.
Oils with twoviscosities arecalled multigrade oils;
oils with onlyoneviscosity aretermed single-
grade oils.
Single-grade oilscan notbeused inyour engine.
The viscosity ofthe engine oilfor your Porsche
has tobe chosen according tothe ambient tem-
perature giveninthe engine oilrecommendation
table.

Warning!
Fuel ishighly flammable andharmful to
health.
l>
Fire, open flame andsmoking areprohibited
when handling fuel.
l>
