Recycling
-for aPorsche, thisisvirtually
an academic question
More thantwo-thirds ofall Porsches everbuiltare
still running.
Just incase recycling isever necessary, we
take thefollowing precautionary measures:
- Identification ofall materials.
- Use ofrecyclable materials.
- Reusable components designedforsimple
removal.
- These reasons resultinafurther increase in
the recycling ratewhich iscurrently 80per
cent.

Motor racing isaterm weassociate withfascina-
tion andemotion.
On the one hand.
On the other hand, there's thetechnology that
makes thisfascination possible.
Your new911 GT3 hasbeen developed withexpe-
rience gained fromthedevelopment anduseof
countless GTvehicles, andhasbeen equipped
with technical preconditions thatfacilitate use
away frompublic roadsinmotor racing.
Depending onuse, itcan bepossible ornecessary
to adapt thevehicle tothe respective conditions.
In the case, itmust always betaken intoaccount
that amodern high-performance sportscarrepre-
sents acomplex systemwithindividual compo-
nents thatarecarefully adjusted towork together
perfectly.
Interfering inthis system isonly anoption ifitcan
be guaranteed thatallofthe components willcon-
tinue towork together inamanner adjusted tothe
actual conditions ofuse. Well-founded specialist
knowledge isnecessary forthis. Youshould seek

Coverings
~ Donot affix anycoverings (e.g.films or"stone
guards") inthe area ofthe headlights andair
intakes. Damage duetoexcessive temperatures and
abrasion couldresult.
Motor racing
For reasons ofsafety, thebraking system, steer-
ing, running gear, wheels andtires ofyour car
should bechecked afterevery race.
On public highways, therunning gearandrear
spoiler mustbeinthe standard position.
Break inhints forthe first
1,000 miles/l,600 kilometers
The following tipswillbehelpful inobtaining opti-
mum performance fromyournewPorsche.
Despite themost modern, high-precision manufac-
turing methods, itcannot becompletely avoided
that themoving partshavetowear inwith each
other. Thiswearing-in occursmainlyinthe first
1,000 milesj1,600 km.
Therefore:
I>
Preferably takelonger trips.
I>
Avoid frequent coldstarts withshort-distance
driving whenever possible.
I>
Avoid fullthrottle startsandabrupt stops.
I>
Donot exceed maximum enginespeedof
4,200 rpm(revolutions perminute).
I>
Donot run acold engine athigh rpmeither in
Neutral oringear.
I>
Donot letthe engine labor,especially when
driving uphill.Shifttothe next lower gearin
time (usethemost favorable rpmrange).
I>
Never lugthe engine inhigh gear atlow
speeds. Thisruleapplies atall times, notjust
during thebreak-in period.
Controls, Instruments
I>
Donot participate inmotor racing events,
sports driving schools, etc.during thefirst
1,000 milesj1,600 kilometers.
There maybeaslight stiffness inthe steering,
gear-shifting orother controls duringthebreak-in
period whichwillgradually disappear.
Break inbrake padsanddiscs
New brake padsanddiscs havetobe "broken in",
and therefore onlyattain optimal frictionwhenthe
car has covered severalhundred milesorkm.
The slightly reduced brakingabilitymustbecom-
pensated forbypressing thebrake pedalharder.
This alsoapplies whenever thebrake padsand
brake discsarereplaced.
New tires
New tires donot have maximum traction. They
tend tobe slippery.
I>
Break innew tires bydriving atmoderate
speeds duringthefirst 60to120 milesj1 00to
200 km.Longer braking distances mustbean-
ticipated.
Engine
oilconsumption
During thebreak-in periodoilconsumption maybe
higher thannormal.
As always, therate ofoil consumption dependson
the quality andviscosity ofoil, the speed atwhich
the engine isoperated, theclimate androad con-
ditions, aswell asthe amount ofdilution andoxi-
dation ofthe lubricant.
I>
Make ahabit ofchecking engineoilwith every
fuel filling, addifnecessary.
StartingProcedures

c>
Fasten safetybeltsbefore driving away.
Before starting theengine
c>
Apply thehandbrake.
c>
Move thegearshift leverintoneutral.
The clutch pedalmustbedepressed fully
before thestarter willengage.
Temperature sensorsonthe engine automatically
provide thecorrect fuel/air mixture required for
starting.
Therefore, itis
not necessary todepress the
accelerator pedal
whilestarting acold ora
warm engine.
c>
Assoon asthe engine starts,release theigni-
tion key.
52
Controls, Instruments The
first operation ofthe starter isended automat-
ically when theengine starts.
If the engine doesnotstart, subsequent starter
operations willnotbeended automatically.
If the engine failstostart after 10or15 seconds
of cranking:
c>
Wait about 10seconds beforeengaging the
starter again.
c>
Donot letthe engine idletowarm up.
c>
When starting theengine, beready todrive
immediately.
Drive vehicle atmoderate speedsandavoid
engine speeds above4,200 rpmduring the
first 5minutes.
A
Danger!
Engine exhaust fumeshavemany compo-
nents which youcan smell. Theyalsocontain
carbon monoxide (CO),which isacolorless
and odorless gas.
Carbon monoxide cancause unconscious-
ness andeven death ifinhaled.
c>
Never startorlet the engine runinan en-
closed, unventilated area.
It is not recommended tosit inyour carforpro-
longed periods withtheengine onand thecar
not moving.
An unattended vehiclewitharunning engine
is potentially hazardous.
If warning lightsshould comeontoindicate
improper operation, theywould gounno-
ticed.
c>
Never leavetheengine idlingunattended.
Danger offire.
c>
Donot park oroperate thevehicle inareas
where thehotexhaust systemmaycome in
contact withdrygrass, brush,fuelspill oroth-
er flammable material.

Tiredamage, puncture
t>
Check tiresforimbedded material,cuts,punc-
tures, cracks andbulges (sidewall)before
driving off.
In case oftire damage, whereitis uncertain
whether thereisabreak inthe plywith allits con-
sequences ortire damage causedbythermal or
mechanical overloading duetoloss ofpressure or
any other priordamage, werecommend thatthe
tire bereplaced forsafety reasons.
If one faulty tireisreplaced itshould benoted that
the difference intread depth onone axle must not
exceed 30
%.
Handling inconsistencies mayresult.
t>
Perform avisual inspection ifnecessary.
Tire replacements
If in doubt, contact yourPorsche dealeror
Porsche Importer ofyour country.
Use only tiremakes andtypes tested byPorsche.
If you donot use aPorsche recommended
replacement tire,make surethatyou
purchase yournewtires from areputable
tire dealer andthat thedealer complies with
all manufacturers warningsforthose tires.
Only tires withthesame make andwith the
same specification code(e.g."NO", "Nl"... )
can bemounted. Before
mounting newtires, check withyour
Porsche dealeraboutthecurrent release
status.
Use tires with"ZR" quality standards.
There
are currently nostandards concerning tire
strength atspeeds above150mph (240 kmjh).
Tires should bereplaced noless than onone axle
at the time.
Only tires ofthe same makeandtype must be
used. Mixed tiresarenotpermissible.
Initially, newtires donot have theirfulltraction.
You should therefore driveatmoderate speeds
during thefirst 60-120 miles (100-200 km).
If new tires areinstalled onlyonone axle, anotice-
able change inhandling occursduetothe different
tread depth ofthe other tires.
This happens especially ifonly reartires arere-
placed. However, thiscondition disappears asthe
new tires arebroken in.
t>
Please adjustyourdriving styleaccordingly.
Installation ofnew tires should onlybedone bya
qualified tiretechnician.
Valves
Rubber valvestems mustbereplaced everytime
a tire isreplaced.
For metal valves, theinstallation andreplacement
instructions mustbeobserved.
Use only genuine Porsche metalvalves.
Parking atthe curb
/!\
Warning!
Hard impacts againstcurbs(ortraffic
islands) aredangerous andmay cause hid-
den tiredamage whichisnot noticeable until
later. Suchdamage canresult inaccidents
at high speeds causing severepersonal inju-
ry.
Depending onthe force ofimpact, theedge
of the rim can also bedamaged.
t>
Ifyou areindoubt, havethewheel checked by
an expert, particularly ifyou suspect damage
on the inside.
I>
Ifyou must driveoveracurb orother obstacle,
drive slowly andatan obtuse angle.Exercise
care when parking alongcurbs.
Practical Tips,Emergency Service
Beforemounting snowtires, consult with
your Porsche dealer.Hehas thetechnical
information necessarytoadvise youon
wheel andtirecompatibility.
Snow tiresshould havethesame loadcapacity as
original equipment tiresandshould bemounted
on allfour wheels.
Snow tireswithstuds should berun atmoderate
speeds whennewinorder togive thestuds time
to settle.
/i\
Warning!
Tires withbadly worntreads andstuds are
very dangerous andcould cause accidents
resulting insevere personal injuries.
I>
Make surethey arereplaced immediately.
Do not drive avehicle equipped withsnow tiresat
prolonged highspeed.
Snow tiresdonot have thesame degree oftrac-
tion ondry, wet orsnowfree roadsasanormal
tire. Furthermore, snowtireswear rapidly underthese
conditions.
Snow tiresdonot fulfill their purpose ifthe tread
depth isless than 5/32 in.(4mm).
Comply withallstate andlocal laws
governing snowtireand tread depth
requirements.
Snow
chains
/i\
Caution!
Risk ofdamage tobody, axleorbrake com-
ponents.
I>
Fitsnow chains onlytothe rear wheels, and
only withthetire/rim combination listedinthe
Technical Data.
To ensure adequate clearance betweenchain
and body, Porsche recommends onlytheuse
of fine-link chainssuchasthose approved by
Porsche.
I>
Follow instructions issuedbythe supplier of
the chains.
Different statesandcountries havevarying statu-
tory requirements regardingmaximum speed.
Check withlocal authorities forpossible restric-
tions.
I>
Remove chainsassoon asthe roads arefree
of ice and snow.
