Risk of injury When Thermatic is in operation, very hot or
ve
ry cold air can flow from the air ven ts.This
can ca use burns or frostbite to unprotected
skin in the immediate vicinity of th events.
Keep bare skin away from thes eair outlets.
If neces sary, use the air-distribution control

Thermatic (automatic air conditioning)
Thermatic is only operational if the engine
is running. Optimum performance is only
guaranteed if you dr
ivewith the windows
and sli ding /tilting sunroof* closed.
You can switch Thermatic off completely
as you require ( =pa ge 157).
You can allow the air condi tioning to adjust
autom atical ly (
=page 157) or you can
control it manually ( =page 159).
In automatic mode, Thermatic cools or
heats the vehicle interior depending on:
! the temperature selected
! outside temperature
! sunlight
In automatic mode, you rare lyneed to alter
the temperature, airflow or air distributio n.
The combination filter installed filters out
most dust particles and pollen comp letely. i
The interval for replacing the filter depends
on environmental influences, such as high levels
of air pollution. The interval may be shorter than
tha tspecifi edin the Service Booklet .A filter
reduces the quantity of air suppli edto the vehi-
cle inte rior.
6 In warm weather, ventilate the vehicle
for a short time, e.g. using the summer
open ing feature ( =
page183).
This ensures that the desired interior
tempe rature is achieved more rapidly.
i Observ e the following instructions to ensure
that Thermatic functions correctly:
! Keep the air inlet onthe bonnet free from
deposi ts, e.g. ice or snow, to ensure the flow
of fre shair to the vehicle interior.
! Make sure tha tthe air vents and vent ilation
grilles in the vehicle interior are always kept
cl ear. i
Cond ensation may drip from the underside
of the vehi cle when Thermatic isin cooling
mode. G
Risk of accident Follow the settings recommended on the fol-
lowing pages for heating or cooling. The win-
dows coul dotherwise mist up. As a result, you
may nolongerbe able to observe road and
traffic conditions and cause an accident. H
Environmental note The
cooling system uses th erefri gerant
R134A. This refrigerant does not damage
the earth's ozone la yer. 209en_d2.boo Seite
