We want to help you get the greatest
possible driving pleasure from your
vehicle. Your Owner’s Manual can
assist you in many ways. We strong-
ly recommend that you read the
entire manual. Especially, in order to
prevent death or injury, at the very
least, you must read the WARNING
and CAUTION sections spread
throughout the manual, which are
easily recognized by their special
markings listed.
Illustrations complement the words
in this manual to best explain how to
enjoy your vehicle. By reading your
manual, you learn about features,
important safety information, and
driving tips under various road condi-
tions. The general layout of the manual is
provided in the Table of Contents. A
good place to start is the index; it has
an alphabetical listing of all informa-
tion in your manual.
Sections: This manual has eight sec-
tions plus an index. Each section
begins with a brief list of contents so
you can tell at a glance if that section
has the information you want.
You’ll find various WARNING’s,
CAUTION’s, and NOTICE’s in this
manual. These WARNING’s,
CAUTION’s and NOTICE’s were pre-
pared to enhance your personal
safety and continued satisfaction
with Kia vehicle. You should carefully
read and follow ALL procedures and
recommendations provided in these
WARNING’s, CAUTION’s and
NOTICE’s.
✽ ✽
NOTICEA NOTICE indicates a situation in

Window opening and closingThe driver’s door has a master power
window switch that controls all the
windows in the vehicle. To open or
close a window, press down or pull
up the front portion of the correspon-
ding switch.
Automatic power windowDepressing or pulling up the power
window switch momentarily to the
second detent position (
\b) com-
pletely lowers or lifts the window
even when the switch is released. To
stop the window at the desired posi-
tion while the window is in operation,
pull up or depress the switch
momentarily to the opposite direction
of the window movement.
If the battery has been discharged
or disconnected, the automatic
power window system must be reset
as follows:
1. Turn the ignition key to ON posi- tion.
2. Close each window and continue pulling up on each power window
switch for at least 0.5 second after
the window is completely closed. Automatic window reversal (When
window is closed by the automatic
power window)
If the upward movement of the win-
dow is blocked by an object or part of
the body, the window will detect the
resistance and will stop upward
movement. The window will then
lower approximately 15cm to allow
the object to be cleared.

If the curtain airbag deploys, it
remains inflated for approximately
3 seconds. The curtain airbag
deployment occurs only on the
side of the vehicle affected by the
impact.
The side airbags (side and curtain
airbags) are not designed to
deploy during collisions from the
front or rear of the vehicle or in
most rollover situations.
The curtain airbags are designed
to deploy only during certain side-
impact collisions, depending on the
crash severity, angle, speed and
impact. The curtain airbags are not
designed to deploy in all side
impact situations.
WARNING
In order for side airbags (side
and curtain airbags) to pro-
vide its best protection, both
front seat occupants and both
outboard rear occupants
should sit in an upright posi-
tion with the seat belts proper-
ly fastened. Especially, chil-
dren should sit in a proper
child restraint system.
When children are seated in
the rear outboard seats, they
must be seated in the proper
child restraint system. Make
sure to put the child restraint
system as far away from the
door side as possible, and
secure the child restraint sys-
tem to be locked in position.
(Continued)
(Continued)
Do not allow the passengers
to lean their heads or bodies
onto doors, put their arms on
the doors, stretch their arms
out of the window, or place
objects between the doors
and passengers when they are
seated on the seats where
side airbags are equipped.
Never try to open or repair any
components of the side cur-
tain airbag system. This
should be done only by an
authorized Kia dealer.
Failure to follow the above men-
tioned instructions can result in
injury or death to the vehicle
occupants in an accident.

In order to help provide protection
in a severe collision, the airbags
must inflate rapidly. The speed of
airbag inflation has been deter-
mined by the Canadian Motor
Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS)
to reduce the likelihood of serious
or life-threatening injuries and is
thus a mandatory part of the airbag
design.
However, airbag inflation can also
cause injuries which normally can
include facial abrasions, bruises
and broken bones, because that
speed also causes the airbags to
expand with a great deal force.
There are even circumstances
under which contact with the
steering wheel airbag can cause
fatal injuries, especially if the
occupant is positioned exces-
sively close to the steering
wheel.
Noise and smokeWhen the airbags inflate, they make
a loud noise and they leave smoke
and powder in the air inside of the
vehicle. This is normal and is a result
of the ignition of the airbag inflator.
After the airbag inflates, you may feel
substantial discomfort in breathing
due to the contact of your chest to
both the safety belt and the airbag,
as well as from breathing the smoke
and powder. We strongly urge you
to open your doors and/or win-
dows as soon as possible after
impact in order to reduce discom-
fort and prevent prolonged expo-
sure to the smoke and powder.
Though smoke and powder are non-
toxic, it may cause irritation to the
skin (eyes, nose and throat etc). If
this is the case, wash and rinse with
the cold water immediately and con-
sult the doctor if the symptom per-
sists.
WARNING
Driver should sit as far back
(at least 250 mm (10 inches)
away) from the steering wheel
airbag as possible to reduce
the risk of injury or death in a
collision. The front passenger
should always move their seat
as far back as possible and sit
back in their seat.
Airbag inflates instantly in an
event of collision, passengers
may be injured by the airbag
expansion force if they are not
in proper position.
Airbag inflation may cause
injuries which normally
include facial or bodily abra-
sions, injuries by the broken
glasses or burns by the explo-
sives.

Outside rearview mirror Be sure to adjust mirror angles
before driving.
✽ ✽
NOTICEDo not scrape ice off the mirror
face; this may damage the surface of
the glass. If ice should restrict move-
ment of the mirror, do not force the
mirror for adjustment. To remove
ice, use a deicer spray, or a sponge
or soft cloth with very warm water.
The electric remote control mirror
switch allows you to adjust the posi-
tion of the left and right outside
rearview mirrors. To adjust the posi-
tion of either mirror, move the lever
(➀) to R or L to select the right side
mirror or the left side mirror, then
press a corresponding point () on
the mirror adjustment control to posi-
tion the selected mirror up, down, left
or right.
After adjustment, put the lever into
neutral position to prevent the inad-
vertent adjustment.

CAUTION
The right outside rearview
mirror is convex. In somecountries, the left outsiderearview mirror is also con-vex. Objects seen in the mirrorare closer than they appear.

ror or direct observation todetermine the actual distanceof following vehicles whenchanging lanes.
