1. If your car has an automatic transaxle, be sure the gear selector lever is in "N" or "P" and the emergency brake is set. 2. Check the battery connections to be sure
they are clean and tight.
3. Turn on the interior light. If the light dims or
goes out when you operate the starter, the battery is discharged.
4. Check the starter connections to be sure they are securely tightened.
5. Do not push or pull the vehicle to start it. See instructions for "Jump Starting".

1 Check fuel level.
2 Check all connectors at ignition, coil and
spark plugs. Reconnect any that may bedisconnected or loose.
3 Check the fuel line in the engine room.

1. Reduce your speed gradually, keeping a
straight line. Move cautiously off the road to a safe place.
2. Turn on your emergency flashers.
3. Try to start the engine again. If your vehicle will not start, contact a Hyundai dealer or seekother qualified assistance.

3-8 D080A02A-GAT IF YOUR CAR MUST BE TOWED CAUTION: Your car can be damaged if towed incorrect- ly! If your car has to be towed, it should be done by your Hyundai dealer or a commercial tow truck service. This will help assure that your car is not damaged in towing. Also, professionals are gen- erally aware of local laws governing towing. In any case, rather than risk damage to your car, it is suggested that you show this information to the tow truck operator. Be sure that a safety chain system is used and that all local laws are ob- served.

o If the car is being towed with the rear wheels
on the ground, be sure the parking brake is released.
o If the car is being towed with the front wheels on the ground, be sure that the transaxle is in neutral. Also, be sure that the ignition key is in the "ACC" position. This is necessary to prevent damage to the steering lock mecha- nism, which is not designed to hold the front wheels straight while the car is being towed.
o If any of the loaded wheels or suspension
components are damaged, a towing dolly must be used.

D060J01FC-GAT After Changing Wheels If you have a tire gauge, remove the valve cap and check the air pressure. If the pressure is lower than recommended, drive slowly to the nearest service station and inflate to the correct pressure. If it is too high, adjust it until it is correct. Always reinstall the valve cap after checking or adjusting tire pressure. If the cap is not replaced, air may leak from the tire. If you lose a valve cap, buy another and install it as soon as possible. After you have changed wheels, always secure the flat tire in its place in the luggage room and return the jack and tools to their proper storage locations.

6-20 CAUTION: A burned-out fuse indicates that there is aproblem in the electrical circuit. If you re-place a fuse and it blows as soon as theaccessory is turned on, the problem is seri-ous and should be referred to a Hyundaidealer for diagnosis and repair. Never re-place a fuse with anything except a fusewith the same or a lower amperage rating. Ahigher capacity fuse could cause damageand create a fire hazard.

4. Replace the blown fuse by pressing a new fuse of the same rating into place. The fuse should be a snug fit. If it is not, have the fuseclip repaired or replaced by a Hyundai dealer.If you do not have a spare fuse, you may beable to borrow a fuse of the same or lowerrating from an accessory you can tempo-rarily get along without (the radio or cigarettelighter, for example). Always remember toreplace the borrowed fuse.

Replacing Accessory Fuse The fuse box for the lights and other electrical accessories will be found in the backside of multibox located in the left side of driver. Inside the boxyou will find a list showing the circuits protectedby each fuse. If any of your car’s lights or other electrical
accessories stop working, a blown fuse couldbe the reason. If the fuse has burned out, youwill see that the metal strip inside the fuse hasburned through. If you suspect a blown fuse,follow this procedure:

tions. 1. Turn off the ignition and all other switches.
2. Open the fuse box and examine each fuse.
Remove each fuse by pulling it toward you (a small "fuse puller" tool is contained in thefuse box to simplify this operation).
3. Be sure to check all other fuses even if you find one that appears to have burned out.

POWER STEERING HOSES
It is suggested that you check the power steer-
ing hose connections for fluid leakage at regular intervals. The power steering hoses should bereplaced if there is severe surface cracking,scuffing or worn spots. Deterioration of thehose could cause premature failure. NOTE: Grinding noise from the power steering
pump may be heard immediately after the engine is started in extremely cold condi-tions (below - 20°C). If the noise stops dur-ing warm up, there is no abnormal functionin the system. It is due to a power steeringfluid characteristic in extremely cold condi-tions.
Recommended Fluid Use PSF-3 type fluid NOTE: Do not start the engine when the power

REMOVAL OF WATER FROM THE FUEL FILTER (DIESEL ENGINE)
If the fuel filter warning light illuminates during driving, it indicates that water has accumulatedin the fuel filter. If this occurs, remove the wateras described below.

POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL

The power steering fluid level should be checked
regularly.
To check the power steering fluid level, be sure
the ignition is "OFF", then check to make cer- tain that the power steering fluid level is be-tween the "MAX" and "MIN" level markings onthe fluid reservoir.

REPLACING HEADLIGHT BULBS Before attempting to replace a headlight bulb,
be sure the switch is turned to the "OFF" position.
The next paragraph shows how to reach the
headlight bulbs so they may be changed. Besure to replace the burned-out bulb with one ofthe same number and wattage rating.
CAUTION: Keep the lamps out of contact with petro-
leum products, such as oil, gasoline, etc.
1. Loosen the drain plug at the bottom of the
fuel filter.
2. Tighten the drain plug when water no longer comes out.
3. Check to be sure that the warning lamp illuminates when the ignition key is turned to "ON", and that it goes off when the engine isstarted. If in doubt, consult your nearest authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
WARNING: Be sure to carefully wipe away any water
drained out in this manner, because the fuelmixed in the water might be ignited andresult in a fire. 5. Push the bulb spring for removing the head-
light bulb.
6. Remove the protective cap from the replace- ment bulb and install the new bulb by match-ing the plastic base with the headlight hole.Install the dust cover after retightening thebulb spring and reconnect the power cord.
7. Use the protective cap and carton to dis- pose of the old bulb.
8. Check for proper headlight aim.
WARNING The halogen bulb contains gas under pres-
sure and if impacted could shatter, resulting in flying fragments. Always wear eye pro-tection when servicing the bulb. Protect thebulb against abrasions or scratches andagainst liquids when lighted. Turn on thebulb only when installed in a headlight. Re-place the headlight if damaged or cracked.Keep the bulb out of the reach of childrenand dispose of the used bulb with care.

2. Always grasp the bulb by its plastic base, avoid touching the glass.
3. Disconnect the power cord from the bulb base in the back of the headlight.
4. Remove the dust cover.
