OWNER MAINTENANCE 6-13
You must replace the automatic transaxle fluid in accordance with intervals specifiedin the vehicle maintenances schedule insection 5.
CAUTION: The transaxle on fluid level must be
checked with the engine running and at normal operating temperature and there-fore care must be exercised to preventinjury occurring through contact withrotating or hot parts of the engine. SG110D2-E
Transaxle fluid level checking
The vehicle must be parked on level ground
with the parking brake firmly applied and theengine at normal operating temperature. (Nor-mal operating temperature will only be achievedwhen the vehicle has been driven for 6 miles ormore).
With the engine idling and the footbrake ap-
plied, the transaxle selector should be movedfrom the "P" position through to the "L" positionand back to the "N" or "P" position.
Open the bonnet and remove the transaxle
dipstick, remembering that care must be ex-ercised to prevent injury occurring throughcontact with hot or rotating parts of the engine.

Recommended Fluid Your Hyundai automatic transaxle is specially designed to operate with DIAMOND ATF SP- III
or SK ATF SP- III.
Damage caused by a nonspecified fluid is notcovered by your new vehicle limited warranty. Wipe the dipstick, replace it fully and promptlyremove it again. The fluid level should bebetween the upper and lower marks. Fluidneed only be added if the level is at or belowthe lower mark and must never be increasedabove the higher mark. If additional fluid isrequired, this should be poured into the trans-mission through the dipstick tube with the aidof a suitable funnel. CAUTION: The automatic transaxle unit is a preci- sion engineered assembly and correctoperation is dependant upon the exclu-sion of dirt and lint from the unit. There-fore, it is imperative that only lint freecloth (eg nylon) is used for wiping thedipstick and that the area around thedipstick is thoroughly clean prior to levelchecking or adding fluid.

Brake Fluid Level
The fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir should be checked periodically. The levelshould be between the "MIN" and "MAX"marks on the side of the reservoir. If the levelis at or below the "MIN" mark, fluid should beadded having carefully cleaned the area sur-rounding the reservoir cap to ensure that dirtis not allowed to enter the system. It shouldbe borne in mind that the brake fluid level willdecrease slightly as the friction linings of thepads and shoes become worn and that this isa normal condition.

BRAKE SYSTEM CHECKING CAUTION: Correct operation of the braking system is
essential to the safe operation of the vehicle and therefore, any maintenance operationsother than those listed below should beentrusted to a Hyundai dealer.

WARNING: Brake fluid is hygroscopic and should
never be stored in an unsealed container. The presence of water in the brakingsystem will cause vapour locks and in-crease the possibility of brake fade alongwith promoting corrosion within the brak-ing system. The brake fluid must bechanged at the specified time or mileageinterval to ensure continued safe opera-tion of the system. Brake fluid will causerapid and serious damage to paintwork. Ifaccidental spillage occurs, the affectedarea must be rinsed with water immedi-ately. Do not allow brake fluid to comeinto contact with the eyes or to be in-gested and ensure that fluid is safelystored away form the reach of children.

Adding Fluid
Recommended brake fluid conforming to DOT 3
or DOT 4 should be used. The reservoir cap must be fully tightened to avoid contaminationfrom foreign matter or moisture.
CAUTION: Brake fluid is hygroscopic and should
never be stored in an unsealed container. Do not allow petroleum base fluid tocontaminate the brake fluid since damageto the rubber seals of the system mayresult.
WARNING: Brake fluid will cause rapid and serious
damage to paintwork. If accidental spillage occurs, the affected area must be rinsedwith water immediately. Do not allow brakefluid to come into contact with the eyes or tobe ingested and ensure that fluid is safelystored away form the reach of children.

Checking the Refrigerant
1. Start the engine and run at idle for several minutes with the refrigeration system run- ning at the coldest setting.
2. Open the bonnet and inspect the sight glass on the top of the receiver dryer.
3. If the refrigerant charge is insufficient, a flow of bubbles will be observed through the sightglass.
4. If the refrigerant charge is satisfactory, no bubbles will be observed through the sightglass.
CAUTION: Running the air conditioning system with a low refrigerant level may damage the com-pressor. SG140D1-E
Off Season Maintenance The air conditioning must be run for ten minutes or so weekly during periods when the systemwould not normally be used to ensure that thecompressor and seals are lubricated. If thisprecaution is not observed the compressor sealsmay become stuck to the compressor shaft anddamaged when the system is next used result-ing in a loss of refrigerant and damage to thecompressor. INDIVIDUAL CIRCUIT FUSES
The fuse box containing the individual circuit
fuses will be found in the backside of multi box located in the right side of driver. The multi boxis removed by pulling lightly and then releasingthe lid. A fuse rating grid will be found on thereverse side of the cover. In the event of fusefailure, the fuse should be replaced with one ofequivalent rating. A fuse removal tool is pro-vided within the fuse box to facilitate replace-ment.
In the event of a replacement fuse failing shortly
after installation a malfunction within the circuitprotected by that fuse is indicated. The circuitshould be checked by a Hyundai dealer at thefirst available opportunity.

The fusible link prevents damage to the wiring harness in the event of an electrical systemmalfunction. Failure of a fusiblelink is indicativeof a serious overload condition having occurredand therefore the electrical system should bechecked by a Hyundai dealer before a replace-ment link is fitted. WARNING: Under no circumstances should a fusible link be replaced with anything other than anew link of the same rating. The use ofhigher rated links or other means of con-necting the circuit will create a potential firehazard.

To check the power steering fluid level, be sure the ignition is "OFF", then check to makecertain that the power steering fluid level isbetween the "MAX" and "MIN" level markingson the fluid reservoir. NOTE: Grinding noise from power steering pump may be heard immediately after the engineis started in extremely cold condition(below -4°F). If the noise stops during warmup, there is no abnormal function in thesystem. This is due to a power steeringfluid characteristic in extremely cold con-ditions.
