Main switch/steering lock The main switch/steering lock controls
the ignition and lighting systems, and is
used to lock the steering.NOTE:_ Be sure to use the standard key (black
bow) for regular use of the vehicle. To
minimize the risk of losing the code re-
registering key (red bow), keep it in a
safe place and only use it for code re-
registering. _

All electrical circuits are supplied with
power; the meter lighting, taillight and
auxiliary light come on, and the engine
can be started. The key cannot be re-
moved.NOTE:_ The headlight comes on automatically
when the engine is started and stays
on until the key is turned to “OFF”. _

LOCK
The steering is locked, and all electrical
systems are off. The key can be re-
moved.
To lock the steering1. Turn the handlebars all the way to
the left.
2. Push the key in from the “OFF” po-
sition, and then turn it to “LOCK”
while still pushing it.
3. Remove the key.
To unlock the steeringPush the key in, and then turn it to
“OFF” while still pushing it.

@ Never turn the key to “OFF” or
“LOCK” while the motorcycle is
moving, otherwise the electrical
systems will be switched off, which
may result in loss of control or an
accident. Make sure that the motor-
cycle is stopped before turning the

Replacing the fuses The main fuse is located under the igni-
tor unit panel.The fuse box, which contains the fuses
for the individual circuits, is located in-
side the storage compartment. (See
page 3-15 for storage compartment
cover removal and installation proce-
dures.)
If a fuse is blown, replace it as follows.
NOTE:_ Include steps 1–3 and 9–10 only for the
main fuse. _1. Remove the rider seat. (See page
3-13 for rider seat removal and in-
stallation procedures.)
2. Remove the quick fasteners
shown by pushing the center in
with a screwdriver, then pulling the
fastener out.

6 3. Pull the ignitor unit panel outward
to the right.
4. Turn the key to “OFF” and turn off
the electrical circuit in question.
5. Remove the blown fuse, and then
install a new fuse of the specified
amperage.

CAUTION:_ Do not use a fuse of a higher amper-
age rating than recommended to
avoid causing extensive damage to
the electrical system and possibly a
fire. _
6. Turn the key to “ON” and turn on
the electrical circuit in question to
check if the device operates.
7. If the fuse immediately blows
again, have a Yamaha dealer
check the electrical system.
