Acontinuoustonesoundswhenthedistance
becomeslessthanonefoot.Thiscontinuous
tonecanstopiftheobstacleisapproached
closerthanonefoot.
Theradiovolumeshouldnotbesoloudas
todrownoutthesignaltones.
Limitsofultrasonicmeasurement
Theparkingassistantsystemcannotdetect:
-sound-absorbingobstacles(e.g.powder
snow),
-sound-reflectingobstacles(e.g.glasssur-
faces,flatpaintedsurfaces)
-andverythinobstacles.
Otherultrasoundsources(e.g.pneumatic
brakesofothervehicles,jackhammers)can
interferewithdetectionofobstacles.

Theparkingassistantsystemindicatesafaultin
twoways:
-Afterreversegearhasbeenselected,the
shortsignaltoneisfollowedbyacontinuous
toneofthe
same
pitch:
Thisindicatesthatsensorsaresoiledor
coveredwithice.
-Afterreversegearhasbeenselected,the
shortsignaltoneisfollowedbyacontinuous
tonewithamuchlowerpitch:
