clutchpedalpartiallydepressed.
Shouldthefreetraveloftheclutchpedalsud-
denlybecomebigger,itcouldmeanamalfunc-
tionoftheclutch.SeeyourPorschedealerfor
correction.

Parkingbrakeforceismechanicallytransferred
totherearwheelsbymeansofcables.
I>Usetheparkingbrakeonlyafterthevehicle
hascometoafullstop.

Setting
theparkingbrake
I>Pulltheleverallthewayup(seearrow).
Withtheignitionon,theparkingbrakewarn-
inglightsintheinstrumentpanelandon-board
computerwillcomeoniftheleveriseven
slightlyraised.Afirmpullupwardisrequired
toproperlyengagetheparkingbrake.
Ifthebrakeisnotfullyset,thevehiclemay
rollwithoutcontrol.
I>Movetheselectorleverto"P"(Tiptronic)or
movethegearshiftlevertoreverseorfirst
gear(Manualtransmission).
I>Beforeexitingthevehicle,makesurethatthe
parkingbrakeisfullysetandthevehicleis
notmovingatall.
Releasingtheparkingbrake

Brakes
[>Makeitahabittochecktheoperationofyour
brakesbeforedriving.
Keepinmindthatthebrakingdistanceincreases
veryrapidlyasthespeedincreases.At60mph
or100km/h,forexample,itisnottwicebut
fourtimeslongerthan30mphor50km/h.Tire
tractionisalsolesseffectivewhentheroadsare
wetorslippery.

fromthecarinfrontofyou.
Note
Eventhoughthebrakediscsconsistofalloyed
greycastiron,theywillunavoidablystarttocor-
rodeifyourcarisparkedforanextended
period.Thebrakeswilltendto"rub"asthere-
sult.
Thenature,extentandeffectsofcorrosionde-
pendontheamountoftimethevehiclewas
parked,whethergranularorliquidroadsaltwas
spreadandwhethergrease-dissolvingagents
wereusedincarwashes.
Ifthebrakingcomfortisnoticeablyimpaired,we
recommendhavingthebrakesystemchecked
byexpertsatanauthorizedPorschedealer.
Brakesystemfunction
YourPorscheisequippedwithapowerassisted
hydraulicdualcircuitbrakesystemwithdisc
brakesatthefrontandrear.
Bothcircuitsfunctionindependently.Onebrake
circuitoperatesthefrontandtheotheroperates
therear.
Ifonebrakecircuithasfailed,theotherwillstill
operate.However,youwillnoticeanincreased
pedaltravelwhenyouapplythebrakes.
Failureofonebrakecircuitwillcausethestop-
pingdistancetoincrease.

maticallywhentheenginestarts.
Iftheenginedoesnotstart,subsequentstarter
operationswillnotbeendedautomatically.
Iftheenginefailstostartafter10or15sec-
ondsofcranking:

starteragain.

Donotlettheengineidletowarm
up.

Whenstartingtheengine,bereadytodrive
immediately.
Drivevehicleatmoderatespeedsandavoid
enginespeedsabove4,200rpmduringthe
first5minutes.

nentswhichyoucansmell.Theyalsocon-
taincarbonmonoxide
(CO),
whichisaco-
lorlessandodorlessgas.
Carbonmonoxidecancauseunconscious-

prolongedperiodswiththeengineonandthe

Shiftinggearonthesteeringwheel

Withthetoggleswitchesonthesteeringwheel,
youcanchangetemporarilyfromautomatic
selectionmodeDtomanualmodeM.
Advantages:
-Shiftingdownbeforebendsandonentering
built-upareas.
-Shiftingdownondownwardslopes(engine
braking)
-Shiftingdownforbriefspurtsofacceleration
-Selecting1stgearformovingoff
Themanualselectionmoderemainsengaged:
-forcornering(dependingonthelateral
acceleration)andoverrunning,
-whenthevehicleisstationary
(e.g.atajunction).
Thesystemleavesmanualselectionmode:
-automaticallyafterapprox.8seconds
(unlesscorneringoroverrunning),
-ifyoudepresstheacceleratortokickdown,
-aftermovingoff.

Conditions:
Speedishigherthanapprox.33mph(54kmjh).

TheTiptronicchangestemporarilytothespor-
tiestgear-changingmap,i.e.tothehighest
possiblegear-changingpoints.Correspond-
ingly,thetransmissionshiftsdownimmedi-
atelybyoneortwogears.
Endingthefunction:
I>Releasetheacceleratormarkedly(byapprox.
25%).

Kickdown
The
kickdownfunctionisactiveinselectorlever
positionD,evenifyoutemporarilychangeto
manualmodeMusingthetoggleswitcheson
thesteeringwheel.
I>Foroptimumacceleration,e.g.whenovertak-
ing,depresstheacceleratorpedalbeyondthe
full-throttlepoint(kickdown).
Thetransmissionshiftsdowndependingonthe
speedoftravelandenginespeed.
Upwardshiftsoccuratthehighestpossible
enginespeeds.
Thesegear-changingspeedsremainactiveuntil
theacceleratorisreleasedtoapprox.80%of
thewideopenthrottleposition.

Slipmonitoring

Whenthespeedsofrotationofthefrontand
rearaxlesdifferbymorethanthemaximumper-
missiblevalue,integratedslipmonitoringshifts
uptothenextgear.
Thisincreasesdrivingstabilityonaslipperysur-
face.
Note
Slipmonitoringisalsodeactivatedwhen
PorscheStabilityManagement(PSM)isswitched
off.

Stopping

Forabriefstop,e.g.atatrafficlight,leave
theselectorleverindrivepositionandhold
thevehiclewiththebrakepedal.
[>Foralongerstopwiththeenginerunning,
selectpositionN(neutral).

Donotholdthecaronaslopeusingthe
